I second this question. It has been asked before with no answer.
I have tried turning it off and then on again but the same results come back even though I know there are more matches due to some copying and pasting from previous matches.
The last step of manually merging a smartmatch is to decide if a citation should be added. I always want to add a citation if new information was merged, but the citation should be attached to each updated fact or name. The only time that a MyHeritage family tree citation should be added at the Person level is when a new person is added and all the information came from this one source. From a genealogy research standpoint, it is very important to track sources at the fact level because each fact could have come from a different source, with a different level of confidence.
An even better option would be to allow me (the user) to choose during the merge process whether to add a citation to each changed fact, or to add a general citation. Same is true with notes for an individual fact versus a general Person level note.
Also, when the merge process adds a new citation source, it should assure that "MyHeritage.com" is cited as the Repository.
I made a family tree yesterday and the smart match was working fine. Then all of the sudden it just stopped. I even upgraded since then and still nothing. Why isn't it working?
If I click the smartmatch tab this is the error that I get:
No matches are currently available.
It is recommended to visit this page again soon as Smart Matches™ have not been calculated for this family tree yet.
When you publish your family tree a request to process SmartMatches on your tree is sent to our servers.
As a Premium customer your tree receives priority processing and you should receive matches within 48 hours.
We did, however, recently discover that if one publishes a second time before the previous request finished processing, the request would get "stuck" and continue to remain pending.
This would cause you to experience a situation similar to the one you describe.
We have already fixed the problem.
Try publishing again. Don't worry if you don't receive matches immediately, but if you don't get any matches after a few days, make sure to let us know.
I uploaded a new gedcom on 15th March. Today is the 24th March and I am still receiving the message that says:
No matches are currently available.
It is recommended to visit this page again soon as Smart Matches™ have not been calculated for this family tree yet.
I have read other comments in this forum and it appears that this should take up to 48 hours. It is now well past this time frame and I am not sure what I am supposed to do now to make this happen.
I haven't received a reply yet and neither has my problem gone away. Please can someone help me.

I downloaded the latest version (3.0.0.820) of Family Tree Builder.
In the previous version when I double-clicked the green Smart Match icon on a person's name, the software took me to the Matches tab of the Smart Match window, where I could then either 'update now" or compare tree information.
In the latest version I still get to the Matches tab of the Smart Match window, but this time a message pops up underneath the "Update now" button which says "Unable to communicate with MyHeritage.com. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet". The same happens when I click on the Update Now button. If I click on the "Compare" tab, the information on the 'other tree' window' says "Error retrieving personal data" in red text.
When I click "View in tree" link next to the photo of the person of the other tree, it akes me to my own home page on MyHeriage.com and not the other person's tree (as in the older version of FTB).
I cannot publish either as it stops at 5% and tells me there is no internet connection.
Please note .... I am using broadband and have a permanent connection, and the fact that the FTB actually takes me to the HY site means there IS a connection.
Just rather confused at the moment and want the older version FTB back on my PC!!!

No doubt having Smart Matching is a clever and potentially essential tool. However, my only complaint is why smart match does not just compare the actual full names submitted in one persons tree, to the exact full name in another persons tree?
For Example: Why can't John Edward Bloggs be smart matched to every other JOHN EDWARD BLOGGS, and NOT to individuals like John Edward Peters, or Albert Edward Bloggs?
Surely this will decrease the number of other family trees that need to be viewed, to get possibly just one match????
Ive noticed this is the biggest topic of discussion, not that I want to advertise genes reunited as I didnt find it very user friendly but their hot matches work better, Ive done a screenshot and put it as my profile picture and as you can see it has a discard button on it.
If this item was fixed I cant think of any other complaints I have, its a great site and most of my family think so.
I've recieved so much help from Heritage, I can't believe the responce. I started with almost nothing, and I think I have created something wonderful. The smart match from other sites is really working. I only wish I would have started sooner. MyHeritage is doing a great job and I enjoy and spend countless hours creating something for not only my family but many others. Thank You for the help and I encourage everyone to step up and take the challenge, its fun too. Michael Lewis, Wyoming
Good point, Tex. I agree that part is not very smart. We'll be revamping the Smart Match success email very soon and will add links for contacting the other site managers directly (because some of them have made their sites private).
In the meantime note that you can visit the smart matches online, and use the Contact Site Manager facility to get in touch with the tree owners with whom you had matches.
The way SMART Merge works (and I've added 8,000 people this way) is record by record. What is frustrating is that once you successfully confirm a match, it would be real nice if we were offered the option of merging the REST of the confirmed tree (or at least all ancesters - to include siblings) of the confirmed person - or at least to be able to control how many generations you want to import. This feature would have saved me over 40 hours over the past 4 weeks. You also really need to fix the Automerge - it is combining all new indivs (all brothers, and or all new sisters) into one indiv - it makes the feature useless unless you are just adding information to people already in the tree.
