It was all compares and just that day. You had just upgraded the software and I think that it was a bug (perhaps caused by the upgrade?) which has now been resolved.
I am getting sick & tired of having 54 (or whatever number) "smart" matches and only 3 are actual matches. Enough already...
Either come up with better matching algorithms (not just matching ONE letter in the first name and ONE letter in the last name!) or allow us to turn the blasted thing off! Also, if a name is rejected one time, it should STAY rejected, even when someone "republishes" their tree...So tired of rejecting the same names over and over every month. Seriously reconsidering my renewal because of the pathetic "matching".
I know, I know...Thanks for the suggestion. I will forward it to the development team for future consideration.
I understand your concerned with the number of smart matches you are recieving when you research your family. It may sometimes be very frustrating to view the same matches over and over again.
As you might know the smart match list is sorted by quality, so you’ll see the best Matches first, but we also show you the other matches below, so that no information will be hidden, and all your research potential will be met.
If you find that a match is wrong you may mark the match as rejected and this will help you manage your matches and this also will help us understand that this should not be regarded as a Match in the future.
If you no longer wish to see Smart Matches™ for a specific person in your tree, sort your matches by people, select the person, and click on ‘View matches’.
You will reach the consensus page for all of the matches for that individual. On the list of all the matches is the ‘Reject all’ option:
Clicking on it will bring up the following window, with the option to ‘Ignore this individual altogether’:
If you would like to ignore the smart feature altogether, we have provided this option as well.
To update these settings for your tree on your family site, go to Family Tree > Smart Matches™.
Sort the matches ‘By family trees’ (this is the default setting). Next to each of your tree names, you will see the setting option, which will take you to the Smart Match™ settings for that specific tree.
To completely disable Smart Matching™ for this tree, un-check ‘enable Smart Matching™’.
Alternatively, to just not allow Photos to be copied through Smart Matches™ for this tree, un-check ‘allow managers of other sites to copy photos of matched individuals’.
Please note that the Smart Match™ settings are per tree, so make sure that you change them for all trees on your site.
Regarding our algorithms, we have recieved many requests to better the matching process and we will keep you updated if there are any new changes being made. Thanks again for your feedback.
Thanks Shelly for your posting! I can do nothing more than agree with you!!!! It's about time that the team does something about this whole SmartMatching thing!
For the past weeks I have confirmed about 16 000 matches and received a green SmartMatch symbol, top left, in the record. Yesterday I compared a few matches and it all worked out just fine. Today, when I press the green symbol, I get NO matches in the list where there shoud be names of other family trees AND when I return to my family tree the green symbol for that person i GONE!!! I have ONLY uploaded an updated family tree NOT a new one. So for the second time over 20 000 Smart Matches are gone!!!! This is getting totally unacceptable.
GOOD NEWS!!!!! I'm very tempted to use a very nasty world. Again this proigram has wasted a few weeks of my time. I'm about to leave this site and find one that is more reliable.
This is totally insane!!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday i confirmed over 1000 matches and today, so far, around 150. The green symbol appears in the matched records BUT, when I push it there are NO matches for that record and when I go back to the record the green symbol is gone!!! So again, everything I did yesteday was a waste of time. For ALL of my earlier comfirmed matches I get the error messasge "There are no Samart Matches for........" and I KNOW they have been comfirmed and matched to SEVERAL other family trees.
I would appreciate some kind of answer/explanation from the MyHeritage team. In my opinion, this is totally unaccetable, especially as I pay for a Premium account.
Dear Jack,
Thank you for writing to us.
Please note that for big trees as yours the Smart Matches might have a small 'delay' since they are recalculated and updated every time the person makes a change on his/her tree.
I have manually updated your smart matches, so if in 48 hours you still see matches that are still pending, please contact me again.
Hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly to support@myheritage.com me for further comments or questions.
Best regards,
Ilana
All the Smart Matches that have been rejected take up place on my computer. I get constantly reminder that my memory file is very full and I should close the program and begin again. Well, I have no use for hundreds of rejected Smart Matches. I want to get rid of them!
I am getting matches that I rejected months ago. I am now getting matches with different genders and grandparents and grandchildren.
I also feel I'm getting hounded to clear up matches with less than 200 outstanding matches to be checked while I have about a 1000 matches I am waiting replies for from others.
Unfortunately, at this time there is no way to delete Smart Matches from the list of all the suggested matches.
Thank you for your input.
We have received many requests for this feature from our users, and it is something that we are working on at this very moment. A new Smart Matching interface will be released in the very near future offering many enhancements. Please stay tuned, it's worth waiting for!
I'm looking at my family tree and want to see my SmartMatches, so I click the SmartMatches tab, but....... it never opens, my browser only tells me that it's waiting for the page to open.
Recently when merging from SmartMatches into Family Tree Builder, in a number of cases, just a given name shows on 'my tree' in the 'comparison' tab mode. Often a short name, such as Jane. That's all, not Jane Smith, say. But the full name shows in the 'Information' section on the right.
Can anyone explain this? I have tried re-entering.
Please re-send the e-mail, it might have been accidentally deleted. Please send to gff_stwrt@yahoo.com.au, the other address is on my wife's computer. Officially her's is the address of some of my stuff because the invitation to join one of the trees was sent to that 'address', which caused some confusion at first.
Is there a way to stop the smart matches showing when you have already confirmed or rejected them? For instance, if I go to smart matches and select the people radio button, I get a long list of smart matches which shows for each person that there are (say) "11 matches (4 Confirmed)" But I do not know if the 7 unconfirmed have already been rejected, or if they are new - It is very frustrating to open each persons smart matches to find that I have already rejected all those matches. Frankly, if I have rejected the match, I really don't want to see it again! Even if the message at thesmart match screen told me that I had "11 matches (4 confirmed & 7 rejected)" that would help - at least I know I have checked all 11 matches and don't need to look again.
Also if possible there should be sometning to tell you that you have initiated a change, and the system is thinking about it still so you should not make any alterations for the time being. Say a black bar across the icon ("don't go here") until the tree has been updated by the system. Many forum replies have told us to wait for updating of Smart Matches but who remembers what alterations were made and when; there may be hundreds made within a few days.
I've been getting SMs with listings of brothers, sisters and siblings. The names of the siblings are of a "very likely correct" gender, eg Alexander Johannes is likely a brother and Alexandra Johanna is likely a sister.
I was hoping for a more technical reason, hopefully from Support. It does not make much sense when some family members are brothers/sisters and others are just siblings within the same family.
