This happens every so often; I click on the smart match icon for a person, and after a few seconds the window opens and says there are no smart matches for John Doe. I go back to the tree and end up having to change the name from John Doe to Unknown Doe; save that then edit it back to John Doe. I get the icon back, click it and find the smart matches are back.
Why is this happening? I'd prefer that my smart matches aren't reset; as that hasn't done anything to solve this issue
Each time you make changes to your tree and publish, your Smart Matches are processed again. The data will then be compared with approximately 21 million other family trees at MyHeritage.
Since you have a very large tree, the collection of the data can take more time, up to several days.
It happens that in this "intermediate period" webmasters make changes in their family trees and remove individual cards and even entire trees. The result is that you have received a message that you have a smart match, but that the data has been removed- an empty smart match.
If you wait a few days without updating your tree, this should appear properly.
Hope this clarifies. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly to support@myheritage.com, in case of further comments or questions.
Very often when I compare matches in my tree and other trees the box for the person is empty and contains only the word <Private> even if it's a person born 1730!!!! Why is that?
Also people tell me that my tree has those boxes! s far as I know I have NOT blocked any persons or blocked any information to be seen, or.......... have I missed something?
When comparing smart matches I wanted to see what time period my person lived in so I went in to Tree View since I did not have that information on my person. But since my compared person did not have parents entered it gave me nothing. Since the Spouse have parents entered it would be greate if both the huspands and wifes parents had showed up. Sometimes both huspand and wife have same info in smart match, if just a few data is entered, and can only be confirmed/rejected by the extra info from the parents.
Coosing the tab "Matches" gives me a list of other Family Trees with matches to a person in my tree. From there I can choose one tree and compare. On the screen I can see my tree and the tree I compare with. Clicking on a person shows me data on the peron in both trees.
There is an option called "Merge" and I can choose either to have a Step-by-step merge or Automatic merge and I can mark or unmark the persons I want to merge. BUT here is the problem..... after the merging ALL merged records are marked as UNKNOWN in my tree!!!! BUT when I open the merged UNKNOWN records ALL infomation is there, also the name, but in my family tree it still says UNKNOWN for the name!!! If I open the record I can open a "new page" in the record called "name" and I can manually add the name, save the record and NOW it shows the persons name in my tree. Whats the point with the merging if it doesn't merge tha name, only the rest of the information and I still have to write the merged persons name?
Thanks for contacting us on our forum and I'll be happy to assist you with this issue.
First, It is important to know that this is happening because the language in which you have recieved a match for is not written in unicode. You may update this on your site though by following these directions that I've provided.
First, open your Family Tree Builder program
Next click on Tools from the toolbar
Then, choose Languages from the dropdown box
Right click in the window that appears
Choose the option manage data languages
Once this option is chosen in the new window, copy all the data over into the primary language that you use.
This should help, Please let me know if it does not.
I have the same issue. I have made the recommended change. It did not fix the issue.
I then deleted the "Unknown" items and re-merged the information - still came up as unknown. I have never had this issue till about 3 weeks ago -- now occuring regularly.
Any advice would be great as it's dramatically slowing me down ;-( I am using 6.0.0.5634 as a Premium user.
This iis a limitation of our Family Tree Builder which is currently unable to work with multiple languages. We are aware of this issue and our developers are currently working to rewrite the program in order to resolve this issue.
I am staring at 2800 Smart Matches. Over the past week I have rejected hundreds of matches between persons in my tree and folks of entirely different names, some living decades, even centuries apart.
I understand you have accumulated many smart matches over the past week and have rejected hundreds of them that are incorrect. It is first important to understand that Smart Matching works by comparing millions of names, facts and connections on family trees. When two family trees are connected, both their owners are informed, and researchers benefit from the opportunity to collaborate and learn from each other.
In our newly released Enhanced Smart Matches, we now show you ALL of your matches, the high quality matches and the lower quality ones. The list is sorted by quality, so you’ll see the best Matches first, but we also show you the other matches below, so that no information will be hidden, and all your research potential will be met.
When you mark the match as rejected, the program will help you manage your matches, and will also help us understand that this should not be regarded as a Match in the future.
Could you please write me an email to: suppport@myheritage.com with details of the error you are having? I need more information to find a solution for the problem you encountered.
Thanks so much for your feedback regarding this issue.
First, let me explain that the reason why additional comments are available is because these comments are added to the tree and facts.
Regarding a space to add comments on why a smart match was rejected, We currently do not have this, although thank you for the suggestion. I will be sure to forward it to the appropriate department for consideration.
