I have also got the same question. There are sites with a kind of spider-searchengine. If you type a name of someone the engine goes into facebook, myspace, msn and so on to find the person on all of those sites. I can imagine that MyHeritage wouldn't like to be a part of this. I wouldn't either. But if it would be possible only for real members of the site to search for other members I would like that.
I'd like to be able to search for citations based on the 'confidence level'.
For example a search on 'confidence level' (QUAY/QUALITY_OF_DATACERTAINTY_ASSESSMENT) of 'questionable reliability of evidence' would also return the lower level of 'unreliable evidence or estimated data'. Since they are actually values of 0, 1, 2, 3 then a <= search will achieve this. Finding '(not specified)' would require finding SOUR/SOURCE_CITATION records with no QUAY/QUALITY_OF_DATA attribute.
I love the fact that you now list relationsips for each member but there are some that dont come up.
all these people show in my tree only as relative or related by marriage ### steps.
these people are my Direct relations, if you can point out my 1st cousin twice removed you have to be able to show my nieces and nephews. personally in my family we didnt use the terms half or step in refering to our siblings, but i cant except it in the program to keep things simple. if you cant or dont show these relationships, using FTB i should be able to update and edit the tags myself so the show up correctly not only online but in reports.
also you automatically make people who share children married, even if i list them as friends or partners they still show as married.
lastly i have people who come up twice with the same name when tagging photos and i cant get rid of the additional tag, even if i remove all the photo tags for the individual and retag them they still come up twice.
SAME HERE! Sent 3 emails and NO response. Yet when I was online looking at another thing I HAD TO PAY FOR someone magically CALLED ME.....to talk me into completing the purchase!! Amazing eh! Can't answer my emails about getting a refund of my payments, but can call when they saw me online looking at something requiring ANOTHER PAYMENT!!! I have found virtually NOTHING on this site except from a relative, who I could have called and got the same answers. Instead I have spent NINETY POUNDS....for what??? Absolute waste of money this site it. Fortunately I saved the number of the person who called me....that will be my next step if I do not get an answer to my emails. Anyone else want the phone number?
I’ve been having trouble with My Heritage for over three months. I’ve emailed the ‘online service’ link and received no response or help.
I’ve paid for this service and I am not even able to use it. So, as promised in my last e-mail to the service center, I am posting my dissatisfaction on these forums.
Would I sign up for this program again?NO!Now I can’t even cancel my paid subscription.
I posted an online query, too - I think they may be really busy, but they finally did respond after about 3-4 weeks -- when I received the email finally, I almost deleted it as spam because it didn't come as from my heritage or FTB, but from an individual so didn't recognize it immediately - thank goodness I checked it before deleting....
did anyone on the boards help answer/resolve your question/problem, yet?
I think this would be a very simple addition to the Family Page. When looking at the family tree and you click on an individual's name only some of the information on that person comes up (in the box to the left), but when looking at the Genealogy page of an individual much more information comes up (such as notes).
I think that it would be great if you could go directly to a person's genealogy page from the family tree. When you are on a person's genealogy page there is a link that says "show in tree" to the right. Why not have one the other way around as well? When clicking on a person's name in the family tree the box in the left could have a "show genealogy page" link.
Selecting a default photo for a person from already downloaded photos.
Currently, the selection is set up in a very cotraintuitive way.
It is possible to upload a default image for a person only from a local PC. If the photo is already uploaded , there is no way to set it up as a default image.
Please add the command=menu=link=function=feature = "set this photo as default" to represent this person in the tree and in the person's entree.
Second related problem is that the default image is changed by the system when new images are uploaded. That doesn't make any sense and should be fixed.
The image for a person should be defined by the user, not by MyHeritage site. I think, what it does now, it takes the latest uploaded image of a person and sets it as a default image for a tree. That is often a poor choice and should be fixed. The person should be represented not by latest uploaded image, but by the best image of that person.
i think more regular blog updates about beta releases and new features would be nice. reading about other people's stories or occaisaional seasonal stories is great but on an individual basis what most concerns each user would be new and exciting features and a chance to test them out :)
I also agree with this idea. The details of an event could change (such as time or location) and you might forget to invite some people when you first add it.
Also I think it shoud only be in the calendars and Upcoming Event Notification emails for people that are invited... similar to how only the birthdays and anniversarys for close relatives show up in one's calendars.
This is unless a member has his/her settings set to "all events" instead of the default. In this case these members who have this setting can receive notifications of the even even if not invited.
Absolutely agree - we immigrated to the US from China and so the last few generations speak some Chinese but mostly everything is in English. But another large part of my family is still in China and speak/write in Mandarin. It would be great to have both our English names and Mandarin names associated so we wouldn't need romanized names for ancestors who never spoke English.
Until this happens, this site is fairly useless to me since I cannot easily get my Chinese relatives to participate and therefore can't go back more than one generation past our immigrant parents, and it ends up being all in romanized chinese. Useless if we want to get to know branches from great-great grandparents, distant cousins, etc. who only speak Mandarin/Cantonese
Many member of my family married partners from various parts of Asia. For most of us, our wives, our kids and their ancestors all use non romanised characters sets. The FAQ claims Mandarin support, but the management software (Family Tree Builder) does not support it (I have tested version 6.0). We can type in romanised versions for searching, but we want to preserve the proper charaters for historical puposes. The software hasfields for "other" names and "nicknames", and we could alwways use formats such as "LEE (李)" but all we get is "LEE (?)".
I really like the Family Tree Builder interface, but it is quite usless without proper Unicode support.
Asian languages support is currently only available on the website.
Family Tree Builder Version 6 supports 36 languages and Chinese as other Asian languages are not included.
The good news is that we are abpout to release Family Tree Builder 7 with total support of UTF-8 languages including Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
I would love if you can volunteer to help us keeping these languages translation up to date.
It could be great to visualize both the family tree and a timeline. The timeline would show every event related to the persons drawed, and aldo would be able to import "personalized" events, i.e. historical world, national, local events, etc.
just a simple timeline... whre people's pic in placeholder on a normal timeline graph...the other would be... to have it still in "family tree" look...but stretched out over time.... the criss crossing lines might get to be challenging. but the MH team is always up for those :)
I have been able to enter Hebrew names in the comment field of the Birth event from a Windows machine, but it does not seem to be possible on the Mac (I have tried Safari, Firefox, and Camino). There is no problem VIEWING the information from a Mac; the difficulty arises only with data entry. I find typing in Hebrew easier on my Mac, so I hope that this bug can be tracked down and corrected.
I also second the request for support for Hebrew dates. Especially valuable for yahrzeit, but also births, weddings, bar and bat mitzvot, etc. The Hebrew date cannot be calculated from the English date because some life events occur after sunset (e.g., the births of all three of my children). I have been entering Hebrew dates in comment fields, but this does not generate calendar alerts. Along these lines, perhaps the user should be allowed to select which anniversaries of life events (birthdays etc.) will appear on the family calendar, and whether listings should be calculated based on the Hebrew or civil (Gregorian) date.
