One thing I miss with this software is that there does not appear to be any provision for printing an alpha and/or numeric listing of the database. This is one thing I miss after coming across from my previous software (which is no longer available or supported due to retirement of the developer). I don't know if there are other genealogy software with this feature. So therefore would it be possible to have:
1) An alpha listing with the choice of :
a)First Name first and:
b) Last Name first.
2) A numeric listing.
3) A choice of either.
This would really round off a FANTASTIC software.
I have looked at all the options for printing of charts and reports but can't see what I want. I apologise if it is there and I have missed it
I hope you will seriously consider this, as I know some of the surnames I have entered are all upper-case and some are a mixture of upper and lower-case, but I can't tell which is which from the list and the cards. I want to have a printed list all in upper-case. An example is McDONALD/MacDONALD as those names show as MCDONALD/MACDONALD.
A listing would help me find which Names need to be altered to upper-case. They show up on the person's edit screen, but I don't want to have to go through 3500 plus names!!! to alter them
Sorry for being so"long-winded" with this request.
My Family history is under 12 different family names, and some info is common to more than one family, What I would like to know is can I, by using the Export/Import from/to Excel, place info from one export to another and then import back to the other tree. Does that make sense?
Can I export it back as an Excel file format, i.e., Filename.xls.?
Do I have to keep the layout as it was? Some columns I have hidden. Do I have to unhide them?I also have changed the ID column heading to just ID without the rest that came over with it. (it was ID 1 | EN)Can I just leave it as ID?
Currently – when the number of updated persons exceeds the predefined threshold (~about 5), the Family news entry becomes very un-useful for site Admin. Because the list of modified persons is replaced with their number, e.g.:
"[SomeOne] updated the details of N people in family tree: [Tree Name]"
So, there’s no way to find out, what persons exactly were updated, and to review changes made. But this is important point to know for site Admin, since we have no any History logging yet !
What may be done (and would not take too much efforts):
1) The threshold value for newsfeed update-entries should be confugurable by site Admin via "Settings” Menu.
The number [N] in the text of news entry should be expandable. E.g., by clicking on the "N", the list of persons shold be displayed (names may be represented as links to their profiles, as usual).
2) The “Last update” column should be added in Tree individuals list (Family tree -> People): this info is already tracked, but currently it is presented in person’s profile only. So, it should be just displayed in the table. Next, sorting by the field “Last Update” should be added (along with existing Sortings by: Last name | First name | Birth date | Birth place etc.)
Also, it would be useful to have “Last updated by” field in the list (and in persons’ profiles, as well).
First of all, great job with this website and program!
I was wondering if it will be possible in the near future to fill in multiple first names or middle names as well. In the present situation, a name as John Peter Gusdorf for instance (with John the first name, Peter the middle) is seen as John-Peter. This way, the stats about first names doesn't make any sense. If it would be possible to fill in first and (multiple) middle names separately, the stats about names would be a lot better because you can see how often some name (first or middle) is used within the family (so x times John, y times Peter, instead of 1 times John-Peter).
I have seen a number of posts about this subject, so I reckon there are more people who would see this as a big improvement!
