You are raising good points. The site activities that you mentioned will need to improved in order to get more user engagement. We are planning on doing some site changes in this section.
The Facebook integration is a bit tricky because the privacy issues are very important when it comes to exposing family information on the social networks. Most the content that is available in the family tree is too private to be easily shared on Facebook and the other social networks. The other way around is less of a problem. We will look into the possibility of allowing users who share content published on Facebook into their MyHeritage site.
Your comments and suggestions are very good. We will take them into consideration
One that every myheritage member can participate in. Might be a good way for people to make research suggestions to other members. You never know who you might meet that could help you out with things.
I'm a Beta Tester for version 5; and there is a feature to search for duplicates. But that's where it ends; you can't fix the duplicates in the same feature, you have to go into the tree and do it manually.
When I enter a person who is related to me, it will tell me on their name place card how they are related to me. Parent, uncle, 1st cousin 2X removed, etc... The problem is that when two branches of the same family, say that I am related to both the mother and the father(both share the same last name), but more closely related to the mother, all of their children will become "related by marriage" instead of the accurate way that we are related. It would be nice for the program to be able to recognize that I am related through both the mother and father and that the father is not just "related by marriage."
Yes, I love this suggestion too. I have a huge family tree and have found many crossing relationships within my tree, and so having FTB automatically tell me the multiple ways that I am related would be very cool. Moreover, because of adoptions my family tree has some extra connections, and so this feature showing the multiple relationships between birth families and adoptive families, when trees cross in the past, is important.
By the way, I think you fixed one of my past questions and now have adopted children showing with their adoptive family in your online version, which is important. Thank you.
I and at least four other people have complained about this problem as well. As a work-around I note that these persons are indeed direct ancestors in both Facts and biographical notes. But I do hope this very annoying problem will be fixed soon!
Perhaps a way to see some of the 2000 other smart match trees beyond the first 200. Perhaps 200 at a time. Or at least a way to see some on both sides of my family. The 200 I do get are all on my father's side. I know there are matches on the other side.
The tree that I am a member of was imported from Dynastree when My Heritage aquired Dynastree last year. In Dynastree, I was the owner of the profiles of the people that I added into the tree that I was a member of. I was not the owner of the tree itself. All of that ownership information on specific individuals within the tree seems to have been lost when Dynastree was imported into My Heritage. When anyone in My Heritage does a search and finds people that I originally entered, they can no longer contact me because someone else shows up as the Submitter.
Is there anyway to correct this situation and change who the true submitter is?
Verwandt/Dynastree had a way to show the ownership of profiles on the family tree. MyHeritage's system handles ownership if whole trees, but doesn't have a way to show ownership of individual profiles at this point in time. (It's something we might add in the future).
This is the reason you see the Site Managers name as being the submitter of the people you added to the tree. If you are a Site Manager of your family site in addition to the main Site Manager, then you can download a copy of the tree and create a site of your own. If you are a member and would like to create your own site and tree, just ask the Site Manager of your site for a GEDCOM copy of the tree.
Exporting GEDCOMs of the tree is done on the Family Tree > ManageTrees page.
Could there be a system perfected so that one can insert text into the family book, presently the book is made up from information contained within the tree and which can be gleaned without recourse to compiling it in book form, but the book form could be enhanced if we were able to include our own text pages with family history information and stories including photos.
It would also be nice to back drop a tree with a photo.
