We're adding user requested features all the time. Many new features like the Tree Consistency Checker, To-Do Tasks and exporting custom reports to Excel in Family Tree Builder were added because users requested them.
The new mobile app and the upcoming HTML5 version of the family tree are a direct result of requests from MyHeritage members that want to use MyHeritage on their mobile devices and tablets.
Family Goal subscriptions that allow all the family site members to pitch in toward a Premium or Premium Plus subscription and soon to be released Calendar printing are all suggestions that came straight from our users.
If the feature you're looking for hasn't been implemented, it's not because we didn't hear you. We really are doing our best to find the balance between staying healthy as a business so we can continue to provide you with the services that we do, giving you as many new free services as we can and implementing as many user requested features as possible with the resources available to us.
Thanks, Rhianna. For me, the issue is seeing what strikes me as a good idea submitted several months ago on the forum, followed by a boilerplate (form letter) reply, then no followup at all.
When I submit an idea directly to support, you give a personal (not boilerplate) reply, which is great. It would be nice down the road if someone could eventually say, "Your idea will be implemented in build xxxx, thanks for the suggestion". Given the volume of work that's probably not likely to happen!
I was looking for a way to have a person's name written in both original and official/international language, but could not find how to do it. There can be many instances when a person has one name but is known under his or her psydoname or a name adapted to a different language, written in a different alphabet or missing original characters. I believe this would be a very useful feature for many users born or living in a multilingual environment...
The standard for family tree files is to save all first names (including middle names) in the same field. This is why there are no separate fields for alternate names online.
In our genealogy program, Family Tree Builder, you have the option to add to the information in a person's card several name fields and also to add names in two languages. However, they will not all display online, for the research purposes that you refer to.
Please note that our Smart Matches feature is able to translate and find results for names in other languages.
I have done this as follows: my husband's grandfather's name is recorded as Max Gorczalczany\ Garry; my father used several versions during his lifetime--Johan\ John Louis Muench\ Munch\ de Monch. Do NOT use the forward slash, for that will repeat the name endlessly for some reason. In FTB you can record when and where the name changes occurred.
You're right, there's Name Change in Facts, but it's not only the change of name I am talking about. Some people have different and interchangeable names their whole lives or the names that vary in spelling (for example, Aleksander/Alexander/Sasha or Robert/Bob). The practice is common on other social network websites, like Facebook. There you have "Alternate name" field where I could write my name in Cyrillics for whoever might look for me under my Russian name.
I have always used FTB and uploaded, because I don't want other people messing with the family tree, so I don't know what is possible with the on-line version.
That's the opposite for me, I want as many relatives as possible to be able to add and edit information in the tree, and that's why it's of great importance that the relatives who don't understand Russian can still read the names. Writing all names in Latin alphabet does not solve the problem, because there are so many different ways of transliteration and "westernization" of slavic names...
At present the Profile page is accessible on the Family Tree--Modern View, but NOT on the Family Tree--Classic View. Would you PLEASE make the Profile page accessible from the Classic View as well? It is the Classic View that I prefer to use, because it is much more easy on the eyes and much more easily navigable.
I agree with you Ingrid. I prefer the classic view as well. With the modern view there is to much blank space (when moving left/right across page). Sometimes, when there maybe 2 or more lines connecting people, it is easy to accidentally go up or down without realising, and getting wrong people. (Does that make sense?)
Maybe the developers could think of adding any fixes to suit the classic view as well as the modern view. What do other users think? If there were enough people happy with the classic view, hopefully any fixes can be incorporated into it.
When in this forum someone agrees with me and actually takes the trouble to put it in writing, there probably is a real need. Support team--won't you PLEASE reconsider and at least make the profile page accessible from the classic view? I promise I won't complain about the truncated fact section, which would actually be pretty well remedied by direct access to the profile page.
The 'Classic' view is a very old format that we stopped developing a few years ago. This means that it is missing very important and useful features, and many fixes that we made (for example the new profile pages).
The 'Modern' view is our new and supported online tree editor. I strongly suggest that you switch to work in this view.
If you choose to stay with the 'Classic' view you should keep in mind that there are some features and fixes that will not be included.
I think it would be a good idea to add a tool to help organize a family reunion. Perhaps a notepad which will allow everyone to add ideas and suggestions and vote on them before finalizing and printing.
A special place to recognize a family committee, their duties, titles and election/re-election date would be good.
Also, can you make the calendars printable as well..? You know a 12 month or one month personalized calendar would be great.
Allow each member to share and favorite family recipes.
I agree it would be great to have Family Reunion functionality.
You can currently setup a calendar event but it would be nice to have functionality for the reunion imbeded. e.g. Location, accomodation, activites etc.
Other competitors (e.g. Ancestry) have a horizontal layout of the family tree instead of the vertical one used by MyHeritage.
Obviously a horizontal layout is much more space efficient, i.e. more text less background. When browsing the tree it would be nice to have the option of this type of layout.
In addition to that it would help if you could enhance the mouseover popup for the information about a person. (Ancestry is a good example in this case also).
Do you have any updates about how this suggestion has been received and if it is considered to be included? I find it rather irritating to have to scroll sidewayes and loose the overview that you can get with a smarter layout.
