I understand why you changed the way e-mail notifications were sent last year. You want to be like all of the other companies and drive traffic to your site, get us to share on facebook, twitter, whatever.
Well as a customer I don't care about that crap. I normally delete or unsubscribe from e-mail lists companies sign me up for -- I *hate* facebook update e-mails, notifications from my credit card company about their latest "deals", etc... but your e-mails were awesome -- short, to the point, with some pictures and reminders about upcoming family events. Very cool.
Now all I get is "hey -- someone is having an event, but I'm not going to tell you what it is or what else is going on, you have to go log in to our website to find out!". Give me a break, this is terrible and I have now unsubscribed.
It's quite a shame, because it's one of the things I loved about this site and service. You may not have seen the direct hits all the time, but you could be damned sure with the old way "MyHeritage" at least stayed relevent to me and made me want to come update the site -- now I will no longer receive any messages and more than likely I won't be back.
I have already had testing done at FamilyTree DNA, mtDNA and FamilyFinder as have my son, Y-DNA & FamilyFinder, and cousins, Y-DNA. Will we be able to link those previous results to our MyHeritage family trees?
Our family is just getting ready to start the DNA testing process. Were you happy with the company's that you and your son used? Did the data upload easily into Family Tree Builder? Is it worth the $? Thanks!
I've been involved with DNA testing for at least 4-5 years and have seen a lot of changes. I have had some very successful results - but many have been what you might call "negative" because my son's DNA has definitely indicated that my husband's family is not related to similar surnames. FamilyFinder has allowed me to prove that I am definitely kin to at least two lines that I had not been able to find documentary proof of the connection. I have found several new cousins and helped one person solve a paternity question. I do believe that you have to know a great deal about your own family from traditional research and be willing to exchange information to make the best use of DNA results of any kind. I have several 3rd cousin matches with FamilyFinder that can't be resolved because the other party has done no actual research and doesn't know the names of their great-grandfathers or where they lived. I have been very satisfied with FamilyTree DNA because of their huge database but I have also uploaded results to other third party sites like GedMatch.
So far there seems to be no way for me to use the DNA feature with MyHeritage because I upload by GEDCOM from my own genie program and I don't use Family Tree Builder.
We just bought a DNA test kit from 23andme, but have not opened it yet. Were the results able to be easily entered and processed as the MyHeritage reply suggested? Also, do you have experience with the National Geographic DNA project? Thanks in advance!
Thank you for writing to us.It is possible to add this information currently only in the Family Tree Builder by double clicking on the person's card > More > DNA markers > select the company the you tested with and enter the results.
I have to say that I don't really understand your answer. I use MyHeritage online only - I don't use the program Family Tree builder. When I double click on a person - I don't have an option for DNA markers, only to add people.
I have been Googling a bit and found out that (of course) I am not the only one who's struggling with this. I also found that there has been no effort made by MyHeritage to accomodate this. There's some Dutch software that has this feature but it's an windows software program. I like the online setup of MyHeritage so I can share it with others.
I'll live with it, this is not a serious hobby of me (yet), so it's not thát important to me.
There were many interesting report including an export of important information (emails, phone, other contact, etc) about people to an Excel sheet. Most of those reports of FTB are not available in the web application. This is a problem for people like me who use an Ubuntu Linux OS where FTB is not supported.
Since you guys have all the reports already done for FTB, I am guessing it may not be a big deal to provide it in the web application also.
This would enhance the already good product you have
