My family tree created by Heritage is so long that printing and being able to read names is almost impossible. Does anyone know if there is a way to move family segments around within the tree in order be able to print it on either letter or legal paper and still be able to read the names, etc.
I had the idea of (without actually changing the tree) doing an ancestor chart (fan shape, probably) to say seven generations (using myself as the starting point). (And here there would be an overlap of two generations, as you will see, which would make it easier to consult the chart(s) and to see their place in relation to each other; you could see the same information at the top of the first chart and at the bottom of the others...) (and seven generations fits into, I think from memory, a single A3 sheet or two A4/letter sheets joined...) (Your local printery will do at least those double-sized sheets quite cheaply and the paper is heavier too).
Then do another similar ancestor chart FOR EACH OF THE SIXTEEN PEOPLE AT THE FIVE GENERATION LEVEL and you have say twelve generations. Or you could do sixtyfour people at the seven generation level and you would have at least fourteen generations; but sixteen at the starting point for the new charts seems manageable. Roughly paste the charts onto heavy paper/light card and you can store them easily, and just take out the one or two (the first, or one of the second, or the first AND one of the second ones) that would be probably all you want to see at the one time.
Or just store them flat and don't bother with the heavier backing.
I had thought of also printing this out as a working document so that I could easily refer to the complete tree, and at the same time see the GAPS; and then I could pencil in new names, and only reprint it when there were a lot of the gaps filled.
Simpler than it sounds; very simple. Most of what I wrote is 'why', and 'by-the-way', stuff, to make it easier to do and understand...
I would like to be able to have more criteria when searching in my family tree to create a list. For instance I would like to be able to figure out if any of my family served in the Civil War. So I tried to figure out how to export to excel a list of all males that were alive during the years of 1861-1865.
So I suggest that we can search in a date range that we choose.
Excel 2010 has a wonderful filtering system, however I don't have 2010. I have 2007 which isn't a wonderful filtering system when it comes to dates and date ranges. You can't do date ranges in 2007. And to just to filter certain dates is VERY time consuming in 2007.
In many branches of Christianity Christianing and Baptism are two different things so I would like it if there were official places to put both of them. Baptists christian babies as infants but can't baptize until age 7. I would also like to see some kind of alternate spelling place so it will match up on smart matches but we don't have to look at 7 spellings of Susana for the same woman. Some kind of dissabillities place would be nice also I have issues with putting a missing limb or low IQ under illness.
I keep receiving offers oi and on! For more than a year, I BEGGED you so many times (see my messages in this forum) to make some minor but very important updates, and NOTHING !!! You even requested me to translate for you, because I'm one of the most important Romanian-language users. But in exchange, you treated my requests with a total IGNORANCE !!!
I speaked everybody of Myheritage, how good is this site, I made publicity everywhere for you, and all you are sending me is.....upgrade offers !!!
This is really outrageous ! You should be ashamed !
I hate to say it, because I love working with this site, too, but I agree! Speedier support would also be greatly appreciated. I have not been able to open FTB for almost a week and I am still waiting for the advice and help I asked for 5 days ago.
Looks like they didn't like my post. First time that I know of that a post of mine here was deleted by someone other than me. I tested on deleting some of my other posts just to make sure I didn't do it myself accidentally, and I got the query to make sure I wanted to delete, so I know this was done by someone else. BTW, did you ever get your help?
I would like to request that a feature be added to the Reports. I would like to have the 'Notes' be available to be put in the associated indaviduals entry and not just at the end or not at all. I put a lot of transcibed information about the indavidual in the notes like marriage certificates, obituaries, etc.. and it is nicer to see it with the indavidual's entry instead of all piled at the end of the report.
This was a feature that I REALY liked of the old software I used to use, (Family Tree Legends) which by the way My Heritage bought that is how I ended up using this. Don't get me wrong I love this software and it is my Primary software for my information, but I still use my old software to output the reports as I think ithey are nicer and definately requier less reformating.
Our Family Tree Builder software doesn't have a Mac version yet.
We've received many requests for this, so producing a Mac version is definitely in our plans. In the meantime, you can wait until we have a Mac version, or continue to grow your tree online.
A tree can be built online on MyHeritage.com, using a Mac. If you have a tree already and it has been published into your own family site on MyHeritage.com, we can, at your request, flip a switch so you'll be able to continue editing your tree online on your Mac, with a browser.
Please let me know if you'd like that. You can also import an existing tree into MyHeritage.com via import GEDCOM, and then continue editing it online on the Mac. Let me know if you need assistance with this.
Would it be possible to create an option to block someone from viewing your profile or anything to do with your tree? I mean that they can't see smart matches related to your tree, the tree itself, or any members affliated with the tree.
As we all know, some people for various reasons have decided completely deactivate their Smart Matches. Unfortunately, people who are being matched with them are unaware of this and may have many unrequited SM confirmations and waiting for something which will never happen.
My suggestion is to have some kind of mark next to a tree when it comes up under SM to let us know that the owner of that site is ignoring SM. That way, we can "ignore" their trees, which will cut off a lot of our SM backlog and save us work because that tree won't come up with new SM anymore. I don't care what it would look like, just some sort of unmistakable mark which tells everyone else not to bother with that tree.
And what about me? I have only viewed and managed SmartMatches in Family Tree Builder. So are all these people patiently or otherwise waiting for a reply via the website? Sad because I won't talk to them? Looking for big green ticks? Or does Family Tree Builder notify people that I have looked at and evaluated their match? I don't know!!
I did look at the web based system today and found lots of matches still waiting from ages ago. And frankly I think I will just go back to Family Tree Builder matching. On the web I found, in the family section of the match, a lot of names of (say) siblings, ladies who now had a married name. But that is all the information I got, and I had to insert (just) these new names manually in the tree. Using the merge facility in FBT, even 'step by step' which is much more reliable than 'automatic', I would have updated all this ancillary, family, information (as well as that of the main person) very quickly and easily and with all the detail that is on the person's 'card'.
So are all these people patiently or otherwise waiting for a reply via the website?
Yes. At least I am.
Or does Family Tree Builder notify people that I have looked at and evaluated their match?
I doubt it, and I hadn't thought of that. Since you can't make adjustments online if you work with the FTB. They just don't have a consistant way of working with SM.
There must be a way to make pretty much everyone happy here. Just having info on what is happening. I would be happy just knowing the reason people who update their tree everyway and still don't use the SM. I even contacted someone that I had a bunch of waiting SM with, and he didn't even respond to my contact. He still updates the tree everyday, though.
