Justin Sew Hoy has written to you regarding the ability to provide a brief description of an album on the Album index page. He has entered information in the Details section of the Album and there are a couple of problems.
1) The text in the text box doesn't wrap so it isn't visible beyond the right border of the box.
2) After entering the description in the Details field it isn't displayed anywhere. Would it be possible to request an enhancement that displays that text either under the Album Title shown in the left column or as a text box displayed when the cursor hovers over the entry in the left column? Alternatively, could the description (Details text) be displayed to the right of the album title displayed at the top after the album is opened?
When two members were added to the family tree one of them was created with an invalid e-mail address and the other was created with the e-mail address of the person whose address was incorrectly entered. We have corrected the site profile of the one with the invalid address and the site profile of the member that had the other site member's address. However, when we attempt to correct the account profile of we get an error message that says that the e-mail address is already in use.
There seems to be a problem with the logic checking because the e-mail address is checked against both the site profile and the accoiunt profile. We appear to be in a Catch-22 situation.
Is there a logic problem or are we going about this incrrectly?
I appreciate you saying why you sent the email. So often it appears that a response which might even help others could be given without revealing sensitive info. At least I can understand why you did it this way.
In using this product we have come across some areas where we would like to have additional control over site access and maintenance. The items below provide suggested additional functionality.
Security (this item is of higher priority that those below):
Types of profiles: We would like to have three levels of members:
1.Site Managers
2.Site Members – Family (in the family tree based on their user name). An alternate name for this level could be Family Member
3.Site Members – non-family (not in the family tree) – non-family site members would only have the ability to view the site contents.
Authorities (these items are of lower priority than the Security item):
We would like to be able to set the authority of Site Members to add, change and delete site objects (e.g., albums, photos, videos, events, etc.). For example, we would like to limit Site Members to a single album per family. However, we also want the Site Member to have control of the content of their album. It would probably be desirable to be able to designate an “Album Manager” for each album but that would involve a significant redevelopment effort. Short of that, the scenario described below would be useful:
·Albums could be created, renamed and deleted only by Site Managers
·Album contents could be created (added) by any Site Member (Family).
·Album contents could only be maintained (edited) and deleted by the Site Member (Family) that created (added) the object (photo or video).
Site Managers could add, maintain and delete objects in albums.
Similar authorities should be available for Events:
·Events could be added by any Site Member (Family).
·Events could be maintained and deleted only by the Site Member (Family) that created the Event.
Site Managers could add, maintain and delete all Events.
The inclusion of these authorities would protect the contents of the site from intentional or inadvertent changes while allowing members to interact with the site.
Since the last update of FTB I find that inputting text into the Quick Find "First name" "Last name" fields has a "lag" on what is typed and what displays. Not a terminal issue but significantly slower than normal text entry.
I also appear to be getting "Some inconsistencies were found...." dialogue box when I open the FTB programme. What exactly are these "inconsistencies"?
I have had recent excperiences also of "ghosts" appearing in smart match merges. That is, a duplicate of a wife or a husbamd shows in my tree even if I didn't merge them. Yet when I go into tree view there is no duplicate person. Bizarre. Is this the inconsistency issue?
Finally, why can't we have an automatic deceased functionality? Instead of just a warning why can't the programme automatically show a person as deceased if we have set the parameter at say "110 years". If after we are satisfied with a smart match we'd avoid having to individually change all the tree info where persons three hundred years old are not marked as deceased.
Since you have avery big tree, updating information and processing in Family Tree builder takes time. This is probably not because of the program's version, but because of the processing in your computer.
The Tree Consistency Checker is a feature in Family Tree Builder that helps you find mistakes in your data in almost 40 categories. To view and choose which checks it will perform, please go to Tools > Tree Consistency Checker. Click on the Configure option located at the top of the Window, uncheck any checks that you do not wish to be performed on your tree, and click ok.
Regarding the "ghosts" that you refer to- can you please give me some more information on this? Where exactly do you see them in the program? If you can send me a screenshot that would be very helpful.
Regarding your last question- we currently don't have this option, although thank you for the suggestion. I will forward it t our developers for future consideration.
Please let me know if you have any other ideas, as we value such input from our users.
Without being a techno geek I'm running a an Intel (R) Core (Tm) i5-2400CPU@3.3GHz with 8GB of RAM on Windows 7 and a 64 bit OS. So my slug perfromance data input issue has nothing whatsoever to do with processing power!
Also, I did say that the lag has only appeared since updating FTB. It wasn't a problem before and it was the same PC which is only 4 months old. So sorry, your flip off answer isn't actually a very credible reply and is certainly not substantiated by your suggested reason. If you are giving me an unlimited tree size for my subscription then the software should be capable of handling it whether it's 300, 3000 or 30,0000 names. There are bigger trees on the site and I wonder if they would agree with your answer?
Keying in data should not be slowed down by my tree size. If I'm keying a name into the LIst fileds they should key in real time. I use this when your smart match raises a query over a possible existing entry. It's easier to visulayy check all the relevant details of a possible existing entry if it is flagged as such than rely on Smart match to be right.
Reasons:
1. There is often insuffcient info in the warning box to determine whether the smart match is a real double or not. Parents should be shown (and or wives) where existing as this would greatly help determine the possible "double" or addition of the same person.
2. My tree has an extensive number of persons sharing the same name and from the same area. Smart Match is woreful at identifying clearly emough to me if they are a double of an existing person (limited info provided). I also have at least person sharing name with same birth date as another. That had me confused for a while till research verified the facts. I have hundereds of persons with same name and am still trying to ensure DOB and DOD info is inpuit wherever I can establish that in order to seperately identify the same name persons. I bet you are confused now.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Smart match but it's a limited tool and cannot be relied on 100%. Ergo, I use a manual check of any potential doubles being proposed, not consistency checker which is a maintencne tool for me and not a working day to day tool. The list of names is the only way to find a person directly. ERgi, it should be fast. I'm not comparing info, I'm simply entering a data field which involves keyboard and text. No computation or "processing" required. Ergo, lag is nothing to do with processor. It's your software.
The fact is I have Excel spreadsheets that are bigger and I don't have data entry delays with them.
I didn't ask about tree consistency checker which I am more than familiar with so I have no idea why you raise that subject. What's that got to do with my query? Think you fail to grasp my point.
I will grab a screenshot of the next ghost event and get it to you. The ghosts appear in my tree screen when reviewing a matching tree (as a result of a smart match) and after I have merged (and no, I haven't merger the same person twice because there is only one showing in my tree when I return to the tree).
I have loads of ideas but I haven't seen any other p[ersons ideas adopted so don;t bother. Maybe it would be a good idea to actually name those whose ideas HAVE been adoptewd for future releases and to actually acknowledge the ideas and suggestions that have been adopted. Your updates are pretty poor at recognising user ideas.
Finally, if I go to trouble of rejecting SmartMatches for persons that are rubbish (and there are) why does Smart Match symbol continue to show up after I have gone to trouble of rejecting all the matches?

Lior, How do i send you the screenshots? Your GUI is more like a basic Web page editor and I cannot cut and paste into this dialogue box. And before you ask, I have saved the screenshots so pls don't tell me how to do that.
I tried inserting images using path to folder but it didn't produce the image. This dialogue box seems to be very like an open source CMS for web pages which I have had experience of. A strange way for messages to be exchanged.
Pls email with an address I can attach images to for your review.
If you were to ask on these forums, "When will man walk on Mars?" or a similar irrelevant queston... I do believe the response would be "thank you for the suggestion. I will forward it to our developers for future consideration." No matter what you say or ask, that's the standard response. Will probably eventually be on all their tombstones as well.
Thanks! I just picked myself up off the floor, where I fell due to laughing so hard! I needed that, today.
At least Bill got a reply. They keep ignoring my questions. The one response I got from them was "the delay is due to the fact that my tree is so large, postings take longer", which was complete baloney! Anyway, you have my vote for the "coolest myHeritage site member". Have a great day.
