I hate to say it, because I love working with this site, too, but I agree! Speedier support would also be greatly appreciated. I have not been able to open FTB for almost a week and I am still waiting for the advice and help I asked for 5 days ago.
Looks like they didn't like my post. First time that I know of that a post of mine here was deleted by someone other than me. I tested on deleting some of my other posts just to make sure I didn't do it myself accidentally, and I got the query to make sure I wanted to delete, so I know this was done by someone else. BTW, did you ever get your help?
I would like to request that a feature be added to the Reports. I would like to have the 'Notes' be available to be put in the associated indaviduals entry and not just at the end or not at all. I put a lot of transcibed information about the indavidual in the notes like marriage certificates, obituaries, etc.. and it is nicer to see it with the indavidual's entry instead of all piled at the end of the report.
This was a feature that I REALY liked of the old software I used to use, (Family Tree Legends) which by the way My Heritage bought that is how I ended up using this. Don't get me wrong I love this software and it is my Primary software for my information, but I still use my old software to output the reports as I think ithey are nicer and definately requier less reformating.
Our Family Tree Builder software doesn't have a Mac version yet.
We've received many requests for this, so producing a Mac version is definitely in our plans. In the meantime, you can wait until we have a Mac version, or continue to grow your tree online.
A tree can be built online on MyHeritage.com, using a Mac. If you have a tree already and it has been published into your own family site on MyHeritage.com, we can, at your request, flip a switch so you'll be able to continue editing your tree online on your Mac, with a browser.
Please let me know if you'd like that. You can also import an existing tree into MyHeritage.com via import GEDCOM, and then continue editing it online on the Mac. Let me know if you need assistance with this.
Would it be possible to create an option to block someone from viewing your profile or anything to do with your tree? I mean that they can't see smart matches related to your tree, the tree itself, or any members affliated with the tree.
As we all know, some people for various reasons have decided completely deactivate their Smart Matches. Unfortunately, people who are being matched with them are unaware of this and may have many unrequited SM confirmations and waiting for something which will never happen.
My suggestion is to have some kind of mark next to a tree when it comes up under SM to let us know that the owner of that site is ignoring SM. That way, we can "ignore" their trees, which will cut off a lot of our SM backlog and save us work because that tree won't come up with new SM anymore. I don't care what it would look like, just some sort of unmistakable mark which tells everyone else not to bother with that tree.
And what about me? I have only viewed and managed SmartMatches in Family Tree Builder. So are all these people patiently or otherwise waiting for a reply via the website? Sad because I won't talk to them? Looking for big green ticks? Or does Family Tree Builder notify people that I have looked at and evaluated their match? I don't know!!
I did look at the web based system today and found lots of matches still waiting from ages ago. And frankly I think I will just go back to Family Tree Builder matching. On the web I found, in the family section of the match, a lot of names of (say) siblings, ladies who now had a married name. But that is all the information I got, and I had to insert (just) these new names manually in the tree. Using the merge facility in FBT, even 'step by step' which is much more reliable than 'automatic', I would have updated all this ancillary, family, information (as well as that of the main person) very quickly and easily and with all the detail that is on the person's 'card'.
So are all these people patiently or otherwise waiting for a reply via the website?
Yes. At least I am.
Or does Family Tree Builder notify people that I have looked at and evaluated their match?
I doubt it, and I hadn't thought of that. Since you can't make adjustments online if you work with the FTB. They just don't have a consistant way of working with SM.
There must be a way to make pretty much everyone happy here. Just having info on what is happening. I would be happy just knowing the reason people who update their tree everyway and still don't use the SM. I even contacted someone that I had a bunch of waiting SM with, and he didn't even respond to my contact. He still updates the tree everyday, though.
I am having a try at updating the quick and easy SmartMatches that look as though they won't have 'added information' on them, via the web; and leaving the others so that I can do any actual updating/merging of my tree using the Family Tree Builder merge facility.
And I have noticed that on the web I have well over three thousand matches I have confirmed that have not been replied to/ confirmed by the other party. But most of them are probably from the person who has generously made her tree available so that I and others could build theirs, she probably doesn't want to go through all the effort of re-confirming hundreds of my matches. She should probably turn off my tree for this stuff since it is only a formality, sort of, between us two.
Hi. No, I don't want to be ignored, I would love to know if we have tree members in common. I was just talking about not being a pain to my cousin; I have been able to merge people, lots of them, hundreds probably, from her tree and she doesn't need to have me cluttering up her systems with stuff she already knows about. I will look at not checking the box ('send a message to the owner of the other tree... about this match') when I merge from her tree. Betcha you don't find any of my family on your tree...
I currently show 4,107 matching family trees. That's completely overwhelming, to the extent that I'm tempted to ignore the feature completely. Some of this large number is due to individuals who upload multiple trees to their profile, which have largely the same people. I really only care about the most recent tree uploaded by each person. Currently I have to "view matches" to see the upload date. If you could add the upload date to the tree name and person count, it would be helpful.
If I could see the date uploaded for each of the trees, and perhaps even sort by that, I could choose to ignore all but the most recent tree from each person, then perhaps ignore everything prior to a certain date, etc.
It would also be helpful if that page could actually be a "check box" type list, so that we could mark them as "ignore tree" right from there, rather than having to open each one.
Linking and smartmatching is great, but it's overwhelming. We need more flexible management tools to save us time!
It would be nice if, after you click on the green circle to review smart matches, and you're finished and want to go back to your tree, that the tree would go back to the same view as before. I have so many people on my tree that it's kind of a pain to have to re-find the person I was working on in the tree after reviewing smart matches. Thanks! I love the website!
I will be sure to forward it to the appropriate department for consideration.
In the meantime what I would recommend is that when you view your smart matches, simply right click on the link and choose the option, "open link in new tab". What this does is opens that page on another tab and it saves a lot of time.
It would be nice if, when you click on the option to review a Smart Match, it would allow the option to open into a new window. I have so many smart matches that I loose my place when the match opens into the same window. Thanks! Love the website!
