Why does your people search lead to Ancestry.com and Genology.com where I have to pay another family tree company to access free public census records? Don't you have a feature that provides access to census detail records within your search capabilities? Is it in your preimum edition? If not, why wouldn't I just go direct to Ancestry.com or Genology.com to start with? Yes. I'm new and really like your site but I don't want to upgrade and continue on if I have to pay other sites for basic access to information like census records.
You can research your family history using the following methods:
1. Use our specialized genealogy search engine MyHeritage.com Research, found here:http://www.myheritage.com/research. It utilizes a unique approach: each search that you run there, will be applied on 1,500 different genealogy databases and websites (including MyHeritage.com) and you will receive consolidated results. Each search takes time but will save you months of manual searches.
Some of these databases do not belong to us, and if these companies charge money for the information, we can't control it.
We provide you with an automatic search engine, that looks in all these sites for information about your whole tree, automatically.
2. Use the MyHeritage.com Smart Matches feature. This unique feature compares your family tree to the millions of other family trees on MyHeritage.com and discovers family trees that match (overlap) your tree. This is found in the Family Tree > Smart Matches page of your family site, or in the Family Tree Builder software. If you are using Family Tree Builder, be sure to publish your family tree first as this increases the quality and quantity of your Smart Matches.
3. Use the Smart Research feature in Family Tree Builder (Premium feature). It will research your entire family tree automatically in more than 100 of the world's best genealogy websites and databases.
4. Submit a question to other genealogists on our genealogy forums, here:http://www.myheritage.com/genealogy-forums
Good luck with your research!
I agree that your search engine is great but it only takes me to sites that have minimal details and want me to join their pay sites to get full information. It's almost like your site is the tease to get us to pay for other site information. As I said, I really like your site but it falls short in this area. End result then is you have no access to the census rolls through your site? Only access to other genology sites that have access to the census rolls? Correct?
I know that this post is ancient but if you are still interested, familysearch, org, the Mormon site, is utilizing volunteers who are transcribing census records so you don't have to pay to get them over the internet. They already have some done. I think mainly the U.S, English, and Canadian Censuses from around 1880.
Using FTB Premium costs $120 per 2 years. It's rather expensive for users of some countries, particularly of Ukraine. This price is a typical month income of our citizen. I'll buy FTB if it is half cheaper. I like your program much but cannot afford buying it now.
What would you say about this issue? Are you planning to make some changes into your price policy? E.g. make different prices for some countries? Or discount and etc.?
Please excuse me for asking this question, as I know it is not the right thing to ask, but I am getting desperate.
I am the webmaster of my own Genealogy web site and I am doing a more modern update of the site. I have about 12 different families on it, and would like to incorporate a relationship calculator in it. The calculator has to work in each of the 12 families. What I would like is a free script that I could incorporate to the site. Do you know of any scripts available on the web for this purpose.
I know I am "out of line" asking for such a thing through a Genealogy software provider, but, as I said above, i am getting desperate.
I understand you have the right to remove this post!
For several days now, I saw only a few seven-month-old posts in Forums section of Myheritage.com site, when I was in the Ukrainian language mode. All other posts were missing. First I though there was some temporary setback due to maintenance work, but it was too long. Besides, there was no warning and other parts of the site seemed to function without problem. I realized that has to do something with the language. When I switched the site language to English, I started to see more forums' topics again; however, by checking the forums in other language modes, I have found that each language mode has its own set of posts in a single language.
I think it is not a very good idea to separate forum posts by language. Before, even preffering having my tree in Ukrainian, I regularly read English posts and quite often in other languages (by using online translation tools like Google Translate [http://translate.google.com]). Now, to do that I have keep switching constantly between a couple of languages. But then other languages fell out of the loop,
I beleive that all posts (in all languages) should be available in any language mode of the site. What would actually help is to have an extra action link in Actions column of the Message boards, something like Translate post or Translate selection for those who wants to read a post in language they do not know. As a temporary solution, a list of links to some good online tools would suffice.
I am sorry, byt this experiment does not make any sense to me and will not solve, in my opinion, the problem with the mess.
As I understood, according to a new system, posts written while staying in, say X language mode, will be visible only for those who are in the same, X mode of the site, right? But that does not specify the language of the posts. The posts can be written in English, Chinese or any other language of the UTF-8 set, provided the corresponding language support is enabled for the computer keyboard. But only those, who has their site screen modes switched to X language will be able to see the posts (not necessary to read, unless they use some translation tools).
One might say that after creation the posts will be sorted according to the laguage used. But some post are multilingual (I myself wrote several of those). How to sort out those?
So, I think, the mix of posts written in different languages will continue to reside mostly in English section of the forums. The users using languages other than English will have to switch to English to access the majority of posts or make their own (hoping to access the largest group of users ) and then back to their language to continue working with their tree. That is exactly what I am doing right now.
The proposed system is just simple annoyance. That is what I feel already. Please let the developers know.
On the Dynastree site it says the tree will be transferred. Where is it? The only thing transferred so far is 5 of my 13 emails. I've looked through the help pages and sent 2 messages but no one has replied.
I sent you and email 2 days ago and still not heard. Did you get it? What's with the transfer? If you didn't get it, my email is the same. As stated in first message, they managed to transfer 5 of the 13 messages in my inbox to myheritage but nothing else.
You can quit looking for an answer. The only thing I've gotten by email is a ticket number which is Ticket#2010030810000264. I've contacted the person I was on the tree with at dynastree and they didn't transfer the tree here, they made their own website. I won't be putting my information here either because it's not user friendly and there is no help.
Somehow I have managed to list some people in my family twice on the list of names on the left side of the screen. One of the double names state that they are not related to the primary head of family while the other is listed correctly. I cannot figure out how to delete the incorrect entry. This issue throws off the number of people in the whole family. When I post a chart the correct information is there. Can some one help me with this? I would sure appreciate the help
