Please see this post on our FAQ that relates to your question: http://www.myheritage.com/help/2008/11/if-i-have-family-tree-builder-why-cant-i-edit-my-tree-online/en/.
Unfortunately we do not have such an option yet, but you can specify your family site as a public site and then put a link to your family site in MyHeirtage to your external website.
This way the visitors visiting you website can also have the option to check out your family tree on MyHeritage.
I have a problem in my family tree. I have created a member of my family and now I would like to change some data in this record but system is telling me about error during the update and I should try again.
Eventhough I sign out, I can access my site from adress bar history in Internet Explorer. How is it possible? I've signed in my account from a public PC before, will people be able to access my account from the PC I used there?
Please make sure that you do not have an ‘auto-forum fill-out’ option selected or a 'save password' feature enabled. These are now standard features in most web browsers. If you are using a public terminal, features like above are security risks. Web browsers define these features and are not part of the MyHeritage site.
In order to prevent someone from accessing your account, please clear your cache and make sure that the bookmark you saved has the standard address to myheritage.com. “http://www.myheritage.com”
Also, make sure that the browser has ‘save password’ feature turned off.
I dare say this may be a useful site, but as yet, after the search facility running for hours, it has yet to even record anything other than 0 results in 0 sites.
This is after it keeps downloading the add-on needed every time I switch the program on.
Pity, as at present I have over 1200 entries on my family tree.
Can you please clarify whether the problem is occurring on www.myheritage.com/research, in Family Tree Builder in the Research > Open MyHeritage Research or in Family Tree Builder SmartResearch?
SmartResearch is something that is expected to take many hours to complete. It is recommended, for example, to start SmartResearch on your tree and leave the program to run overnight before returning results.
If you are looking for more immediate results, it is better to use the research tool either at www.myheritage.com/research or in Family Tree Builder in the Research > Open MyHeritage Research menu.
If you are having problems downloading the Java applet (FireFox) or Active X control (Internet Explorer), please refer to this FAQ post: http://www.myheritage.com/help/2008/10/what-should-i-do-if-i-can’t-download-the-active-x-component-needed-to-use-the-research-tool/en/
It is possible to have more than one webmaster for a site. The webmaster/creator of a site is the person who created the family site but another member can also be promoted by the original webmaster to webmaster status. He will have the same privileges as the original webmaster, except the ability to demote the original webmaster. The Webmaster has the most privileges.
To see the list of members that you have invited, go into Home > Address book. There you will find a list of the people that you have invited. You can look at those peoples profiles, promote their statuses, or remove them by clicking on one of the options on the right of each person.
One of my great aunts is the daughter of a great uncle but also is married to another great uncle. I added her as the wife but now how can I also make her as the daughter of someone else in the family. This program seems to allow only one type of relationship per person.
Also as people add people into the tree, more relationships become apparent and people started to create duplicate names for the same person. So I need to do more of this relating people withing the tree action to avoid duplicates.
Is there any way to do this? Tech support for free version is almost nonexistent, so if anyone knows of another good service, pls tell me. I am considering switching. Thanks in advance
If you have an online family tree, there's no such feature at the moment which allows to avoid duplicates when you have cross relations. But if you useFamily Tree Builder software, there is such feature called "Attach". It works in situations when for example cousings get married. In order to create two types of relations between them you can add them into tree and then go to the card of one of them, click Edit >Spouses>Attach spouse. There will be open a list with already existing individuals in the tree, you should chose the individual and attach him/her to the spouse. Attach feature works also for adding parents, childern and siblings.
I am trying to find out who my grandfather was. My great aunt and great uncle raised my father. His mother was my great aunts sister. I know my grandmother's name. Is there any way to find out who my grandfather was?
Please visit the Research FAQ to find answers to your questions about researching names at MyHeritage.com
If you are looking for information about specific family names, I recommend using the Research feature at MyHeritage.com.
It lets you search thousands of genealogy-related websites and databases in one simple search. Think about all the work involved in going to each site individually and searching each of your family names. It would take days, if not months!
With the Research tool you can search spelling variations as well as multiple genealogy websites all at once.
Another great resource for your researches is the exploding genealogy community at MyHeritage.com. Search for your family name among the millions of names in family trees at MyHeritage.com. http://www.myheritage.com/genealogy
The great thing about searching the genealogy community is that you can contact the person who submitted information which is relevant to your search. It’s really great to be able to talk with a real person who may be researching the same family names as you are. Many people have made contact with long lost family members or made new relationships because they had relatives in common!
Another great feature which helps you find people in your family tree is the SmartMatching feature. SmartMatching is available for members who create family sites and family trees at MyHeritage. SmartMatching automatically searches all the people in your family tree and compares them to the hundreds of thousands of family trees hosted at MyHeritage.com and then tells you if you had matches.
Can anyone tell me why MyHeritage claims that the amount of space I have left for storing photos reduces all the time despite the fact that no additional photos have been uploaded? I've see free space fall from 20% down to 7% without uploading any new images!
