First, from the navigation bar, go to ‘Settings’ and then to ‘Home page’, which will load two tabs below the ‘Home page’ link.
Please click on the ‘Other’ tab, which will present you with the option to ‘Pick the root individual for the family tree’. This is what you are looking for as stated in your question.
Let me know if you have any trouble navigating to the correct section.
Some of the persons in my tree have some alternative information like the alternative birthdate that is standard in the list. So, I made other alternatives, like alt. father, alt mother, and alt. divorcedate and so on.
Now the table looks like this:
A
Al
Alt
Alt.
... and so on, dozens of entries with just a single letter added each time.
Also there appear to be duplicate entries, for instance, I have two entries funeral, two entries title, tow entris Bar Mitzwah and so on. But not all.are double. So, how did this happen, and how can I correct it? Is there a table that I can edit for instance? Or a list in a configuration file or something?
In addition to the standard faces that Family Tree Builder provides, any custom fact that was ever added to the family tree will also be shown in the list, so the list only shows non-standard facts that were added to the data.
There currently is no systematic method to check where a custom fact is used and let you edit these facts, either by converting to one of the standard facts, to another custom fact or to remove this fact altogether.
In the next versions of FTB we will consider adding such a method.
Yep, that is the way my problem came about too. Don't know wether it is a bug, but it certainly is a nuisance. Especially as now more than half of my fact types consist of that kind of 'fake' ones. As I am not unfamiliar with digging deep into programs myself too (having done much testing work on the earlier Windows versions and a fair amount of public domain programs in the days when that was still a kind of sport) and editing hexadecimal files, I feel that I could also edit them out, if I could only find out where they are stored!
Greetings, and enjoy this still wonderful program!
I and other family members appear in several family trees. I cannot find any function that allows the same person to be cross-referenced across multiple trees. Is there any such feature? For example a URL that links from one tree to another.
The job of family historian is also split between members of the family. This results in multiple trees on the one site with some common members. A member appears only to be able to be asscoaited with one person on one tree, not with one person in several trees? Is this possible or is any development in this area coming?
Finally it would be nice to smart match between trees on the same site. Merging GEDCOMs results in multiples of the same person whereas smart matching allows the matches to be analysed and merged intelligently. Is this supported?
These are all very good ideas! Although we currently do not have such features, I will report them to our Research and Development team for high consideration.
It makes sense to have trees connected through individual links. Perhaps there could be an option for advanced associations as such for serious genealogists.
Interesting reply to Tony. I certain would appreciate being able to merge two trees on the same site, particularly if there are several overlaps between the trees. One could then produce one large family tree from two smaller, separate ones. Have their been any new developments along those lines?
I had deleted all of my photos but they are still taking up space for some reasons. On the homeoage, there is a slide show that is showing pictures that I don't know how to delete. Please help.
Unless the slide show has changed since I asked the same question (a long time ago), the slide show is limited to 12 pictures. It's claimed that if there are more than 12, the slide show will rotate through all the pictures whenever you log into the website. I personally haven't seen it do that & don't believe it. Right now, my home page slide show isn't even showing up.
Please see this post on our FAQ that relates to your question: http://www.myheritage.com/help/2008/11/if-i-have-family-tree-builder-why-cant-i-edit-my-tree-online/en/.
Unfortunately we do not have such an option yet, but you can specify your family site as a public site and then put a link to your family site in MyHeirtage to your external website.
This way the visitors visiting you website can also have the option to check out your family tree on MyHeritage.
