Family Tree Builder constantly makes back ups of your family tree while you work on it. You should have a back up of the family tree that you can revert to if necessary.
You can also revert back to Family Tree Builder 3.0 at any point in time if you wish.
Hundreds of thousands of people have successfully downloaded and installed the program and have not had the problem you describe. It is possible that the family tree file you opened somehow became corrupt.
It would be helpful if you could recount the exact steps you took beginning with downloading and installing the new version.
I assume the file was fine when you viewed it in Family Tree Builder 3.0?
What languages are you working in?
Has anything else on your computer changed since the time you installed version 4.0?
I could not open my projects because My Heritage was looking in the old back up on my removable hard drive. The project was saved in My Documents.
I re-installed the program and changed it to open from My Documents.
Then I noticed that females were married to females and had 44 siblings, etc.
The names are all over the place now. I am married to my g/grandmother and she has 44 siblings, etc.
I formatted my computer a few weeks ago. I had a problem with Norton 360 not working properly, it is sorted now, after this happened. Nothing else has really changed. Regards Jean
It only has 138 people on it. Because I had free membership, I was only able to back up a small part of my tree. If we don't take membership out, does that mean that we cannot back up our trees and years of work can be lost?
If you want to use the option of backing up your family tree online by publishing it to your family site, then yes, you will have to purchase a subscription that will accomodate the size of your family tree.
The 138 person family tree is the only tree on your family site. I'm sorry, but we don't have another copy of your tree.
In Family Tree Builder you also have the option to backup your tree on your computer (File > Backup). This backup can be saved to a CD or other removable media device in the case that something happens to your computer.
You can use the backup option in Family Tree Builder to backup your tree of any size for free. There are no limitations on using this backup option.
I have mentioned in a previous message to "support" about the difficulty in determining which individual to select when tagging a photo when in Albums, when there are many with the same name i.e., I have many Charles and William LAWSON's in my tree. The suggestion was to include a birth date with each individual in the list. This hasn't happened yet when working in Albums, but the list does appear with dates when working in Tagging but I cannot select the person in the pop up list. It just won't highlight when you click, double click or even swear at it ! Is anyone else having this problem? I hope that it doesn't take months to resolve this issue. I am reluctant to involve other family members with this site until some basic problems are fixed. Response times from support are much too long and in the long run it may be better for me to set up my own hosted site.
I don't know if it's just me but I really don't get your problem. At least what I get from the story below, works fine for me. Maybe a screenshot would help us.
Thanks for the response. Here are the steps which should explain my problem.
In the Albums window, click on the photo you wish to tag.
In the new window Click to name
Enter the name, in my case William Lawson.
Because I have 13 William Lawson's in my tree, I get a list and I am asked to choose which one. Herein lies the problem: how do I know which is the right William Lawson to choose when there is nothing to differentiate between them (except for the ones which show a direct relationship to me)?
Alternatively:
In People to tag window, select the person to tag in step 1
check/uncheck as needed in step 2
Enter the name and Save and a list pops up. This time it shows birth dates so you know which one to select but clicking on a name does not highlight it (as confirmation of the selection).
Also, as I have a lot of group photos, I need to tag these when in Albums as not all individuals appear in the Peope to tag window anyway. Should they?
I understand your issue with tagging people inside of albums. This is a great suggestion that would prove to be very useful. I will make sure to pass on your suggestions to the appropriate department for consideration.
In the meantime, please tag people that have many options for the same name, in the Tagging section.
People in group photos should show up in the People to Tag section, if their faces are detected.
The faces in your photo should be fairly large, so it is best to use a photo featuring one person or a few, rather than a group photo with 10-20 people in it, where each face is rather small. Note that's it's fine to have more than one face in the photo, Face Recognition will run on every face that was detected.
The face or faces in your photo should be frontal, i.e., facing the camera. Faces appearing in profile will not be detected. The face or faces in your photo should also be straight. Faces at an angle skew the results and make Face Recognition less accurate.
I mispelled my mothers middle name and entered a wrong birth date when I originally published to the website. I republished after correcting it in Family Tree Builder, but the website is still showing the wrong info in her profile. How do I fix this?
I'm trying to invite a relative to the Family site and Heritage is not allowing me to do so, claiming her Hotmail address is not valid. It certainly is. It's a little unique; but valid...
In order to investigate the cause for this problem, please send me the email address of the relative you are trying to invite. My email address is: yehuda [at] myheritage [dot] com.
Our email valiadation includes more then just domian validation. It is possible that our code did something wrong in your case. In order to investigate this problem, please send me the email address of the person you are trying to invite. My email address is: yehuda [at] myheritage [dot] com.
I'm also getting the same "not a valid email address" when I try to send invites out to other hotmail.co.uk addresses. Says the same thing fo them all. Please can you advise?
Please email me the exact email address of the people you are trying to invite, and I will check the issue for you. My email address is yehuda [at] myheritage [dot] com.
It sounds as if you copied the email address from another application, and when you pasted it into MyHeritage it contained a hidden character which prevents sending the email.
To verify if this is the case, choose on of these email addresses and type it manually into the invite form (don't copy paste it).
