In Family Tree Builder, it is possible to choose a DISPLAY language and a DATA ENTRY language.
DISPLAY language corresponds to all the buttons and command names in the program. DISPLAY language changes Family Tree Builder’s interface only and will not affect any information that you have manually entered in the tree.
DATA ENTRY language corresponds to the information you enter into the tree yourself. Names, places, notes, etc. are considered DATA.
Family Tree Builder allows you to enter data in Primary Data language, and Secondary Data language.
The problem you describe occurs when you enter data in two different languages into the Family Tree Builder program and then synchronize it to your online family site. Within Family Tree Builder you can see two data languages when you open a persons detail card. In some cases you might enter data in one language and leave the other language empty.
Now when you synchronize your tree to your online family site, the tree view can display only one language at once. This means that for all data that was entered in a second language, it will display UNKNOWN in the family tree and in SmartMatches.
In order to resolve this issue, please follow these steps:
1. Open Family Tree Builder on your PC and open your project.
2. Open the Tools window by going to Tools menu > Languages in the upper toolbar.
3. In the window that appears, make sure that the checkbox "Same as Display Language" is checked.
This will make sure that the display language is the same as the (first) data language.
4. Now please do a right click somewhere in that window. A small menu appears, click on the item in it "Manage Data Languages"
5. You will notice that you have different amounts of items in the listed languages. You have to make them equal.
6. Select the first language in the list and click on the button 'Copy'.
7. In the new window you select the 'Copy To' to the other language and click on the button 'Copy'.
8. When the copy is done, select the second language in the list and click again on the button 'Copy'.
9. In the next window you select the 'Copy To' to the other language and click on the button 'Copy'.
With above steps you make sure, that in both languages in your project you have all available data.

This seems an unusual choice of yours...Is it that you know the name and prefer not to reveal it??
Or just that a nice chart looks ugly with the word 'unknown' appearing all the time?
I guess you will have to put SOMETHING of your choice in the space for 'last name', or the system will use the word 'unknown'. (I don't know anything about the procedure you mentioned: Under "Options -> Names -> Empty last name" I have made sure the option is blank.)
Try, say, a question mark ("?") ... Or two ("??")...
or, "name withheld"; or "Private";
I wonder if you 'type' a couple of spaces in the place for the surname you might fool the system???
In the past I was able to print Family Group Reports in FTB without saving as a PDF and they would fit properly on letter size paper. Now when I create and print a Family Group Report, it is enlarged and does not print properly unless I save it first as a PDF. I do not want to have to save them everytime...... I also had not changed any settings from the previous times I had printed them.
When you click on the print button on the Report section of Family Tree Builder, the pop-up window of your printer will appear. You can click on "Properties" or "Advanced settings..." (this can change from one brand of printer to another), and see check your settings on fitting the report to the paper size you want to print it.

I would like to be able to include both my adoptive and birth families on my all-in-one chart so that it can truly represent my whole family. My Heritage Help have advised this is not currently possible but I think it's an important issue. Any time I want to make a chart I have to choose which family to include whereas the most appropriate option would usually be to include both. In my opinion family trees ought to be relevant to the present and future as well as the past and families blended in a variety of ways are very common now.
At this point in time, each child in the online tree can only be attached to one set of parents. This means that you can either have an adopted child attached to their biological parents, or to their adoptive parents.
With that in mind I can only suggest that you possibly create a seperate family tree for your Genetic family and label this family tree with a similar title.
I'm using the family tree builder and i have a specific question about generating diagrams.
If i generate a diagram it is possible that the diagram should generate the same branch several times.
For example: person A has parents B and C, if you go back in time for several generations, then B and C seem to have ancestors in common. So that means if you generate an ancestor chart of person A, one or more identical branches should be shown. No my problem is, the family tree builder does not deduplicate the identical branches, that means that the ancestors of person C are not shown because they are already in the diagram (as ancestors of person B).
Is there a way to generate the diagram where all the branches are shown and identical branches are deduplicated? That makes the diagram more complete.
The All in One chart shows all branches and identical branches that are duplicated.
If a person appears in more than one place in an All-In-One chart, a number will appear in his box in the chart.
This may happen, for example, if you have attached person both to natural parents and adopting parents (who are natural parent’s relatives), or if you used ‘attach’ feature to show marriage relationship between cousins.
This is just so that you will know that this person can also be found in another place in your chart.

I have entered address information (street, city and date) for subjects in the Contact tab. I will like to export the entries into a CSV file and subsequently upload that to googlemaps. Have you any ideas how I can do that?
I know I can export most entries if I generate an Export Custom Report. The problem is address entries can not be selected and/or are not included in the CSV export like other entries.
I know I can export an address listing if I generate an Addess Report. The problem is only RTF, PDF and HTML are supported and not CSV. Secondly the listing does not include address date.
I know I can bypass the problem if I use other entries for address information. I have tested that successfull with the Education entries in the Info tab. However that of course make other reports look odd when an education is listed as the name of a city.
