Thanks, Esther. I am already running v. 5.0.0.1198. Is that the same version that you've linked to? It looks like it. I'll try a re-install and let you know what I get, but I'm guessing right now that this is the same version and therefore won't change the problem.
Hmm ... very strange. I have not changed anything, yet I can no longer reproduce the problem. Even as recently as 2 days ago I was consistently having to use Windows Task Manager to kill the application, and now it closes cleanly on its own. I've tested functions such as save, publish, research, and smart research to see if they have any effect (these are the most common functions that I use), but there seems to be no change in behavior. If I can reproduce the problem, I will troubleshoot and let you know what steps create the issue.
Goto your browser/s then (in IE) tools --> Internet options --> General then change the current home page (My Heritage) to your normal home page click apply, then OK and Voila! you have your normal home page again. A lot of programs change your home page (my email client does the same when I update it).
Hi I tried to invite a cousin to the my family tree but MyHeritage.com thinks his email address is invalid, possibly because it has a .net address. The address is perfectly valid (I have a similar one) and I don''t have another address for him, any ideas?
Sometimes users cerate new sites mistakenly. We can tell that they are mistakes because there are no new members invited to the site, and there are no trees on the site. This is why we automatically deleted this site.
It still shows on your MySites page, as that page takes a few days to be updated.
Hi Esther, as I said "I did not create this site" someone used my log in name and created the site but the main thing that makes me wonder is it was deleted the same day would a hacker have access to create then delete on the same day?
Same thing happened to me and was told I must have done SOMETHING (several possibilities were offered, none of which I did) and was told to just delete it, which I did. It must be this new kid they hired. There is one person who has at least 30 sites, which, unfortunately, have a couple of smart matches with mine. I alerted this person, but he so far has done nothing about it, so I just clicked 'Ignore this tree' in the choices.
I guess people have a good reasoon for having all those different trees, but it's hard to believe it is important enough to make it that complicated. I think the people who do that, and the people who have 300,000 names on one tree, many of which are repeated, are both trying to do the same thing. I am just not sure what. This is why I do everything online. I do research in FTB, but that generally isn't very helpful. Pretty much everything it catches I have already seen or just leads to ancestry.com.
I have researched every single person on our family tree as carefully as possible and never add anybody from any other tree without verification whenever possible or using common sense--I never just copy or import! I use the FTB because I won't let anyone else mess with the information or the format. I am very suspicious of very large trees: the information is frequently wrong and at least sloppy. I have seen trees as large as 500,000 people! How can you possibly do any verification or even know what you've got?
Just recently I have not been able to open the photo/video pages. the message 'Loading' comes up but just sits there not doing anything. Yet i can upload new pictures and these come up on the home page to say they have been loaded but cannot see them on the photos page...Has anyone out there had this happen to them and if so what was the fix? i have load the latest version of Flash player for MAC and still no difference.....very annoying ...!
I'm having a similar problem. I can import the pictures, but they fail to load or copy. The funny thing is a couple of my pictures loaded just fine, but the others fail to load out of the same batch. Yes, this is extremely annoying. I'm running windows 7 on a new computer and I've just update Windows. Any idea what is causing this. Also I was getting a run time error and could not get the software to open, but updating Windows seems to have taken care of that.
