My UI Language is set to norwegian but my tree has for some reason language English.
I want to make a Familybook WOW in Norwegian but can onley make it in English... I guess this is becouse my tree is in English? Is there a way to select another language for making the book, or change the language of the tree. I have tried to change the language in Family Tree Builder, save and synchronize, but this does nothing...
I use the Mac version of Family Tree Builder and this morning I ran the "Family Tree Book" within the software on my Mac. The result was very surprising, the dates and places were way out - for example my youngest grandchild listed;
(Peter's grandson) was born on 24 September 1810 to Jason Norman Lombard26 and Natalie
Joy Lombard [Magarry]27, as shown in family tree 1. Cameron died on 2 June 1991, aged 180. Cameron is no
I then ran the same report online with great results, a cursory check indicates that it is acurate and as an example the same grandchild's listing;
(Peter's grandson) was born on 23 July 2009, in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, to Jason Norman Lombard26 and Natalie Joy Lombard [Magarry]27, as shown in family tree 1.
It seems to me that there is a serious issue with the downloadable software and users should run reports online until the issue is addressed. My question now is who do I report this bug to?
We are aware of this problem and have recently tried to fix this by updating the Mac version of the FTB software. However due to this book report technology being provided to us by a third party we had to remove it entirely from the new version for Mac due to it having bugs.
The latest version of the the FTB for mac is now 18.104.22.16849 as apposed to 22.214.171.12447 and you may update it by clicking on this following link.
Thank you for your prompt reply and for the action taken. Sad that the 'Book Report' needed to be removed but I agree with the action.
Thank you also for the link to the newer version. I love this site and the software particularly now that I can use it on my Mac. You all do a wonderful job with both the site and the software and I just want to say that it is greatfully appreciated. I would like to just mention that I particularly like the confirmation feature provided with the 'smart matches', just brilliant.
Thank you and Thank you again for putting back the Relationship Report feature in your Family Tree applications. You DID listen to all the comments and complaints about the feature's removal and you put it back.
I would not have known about the feature's return had I not just stumbled upon it when I opened up the "Family Tree" main tab at the top of the main page today. The Relationship Report used to be tucked in with the Books, Charts, and Reports sub title, but now it is listed all by itself as one of the sub titles under the main Family Tree tab. I bet that there are many others who are also unaware of this feature's return. I'm sure you announced it somewhere, but maybe you could announce its return again. It's a GREAT feature, and your chart graphics for it are wonderful. Thanks again for bringing it back.
Yes, I noticed that, too. But there was no announcement and it very is rudimentary. It only defines 'Close' relationships, which apparently means 2nd cousins and direct ancestors to about 1250. A good start, but hardly satisfactory. The function should be exactly the same as in Family Tree Builder, which calculates at least to 6th cousin across at whatever generations removed and as many ancestors back as you have on your tree no matter how many generations ago.
I don't understand why the on-line relationship calculator cannot be exactly the same as on FTB?
Oh dear. I was only looking for verification of 2nd cousins when I tested it out again yesterday. That is disappointing to learn it has not returned to its "full strength". Again, a thank you to the tech staff for bringing the feature back, but there really shouldn't be any reason why it can't function as fully as it used to, and as fully as the Tree Builder program. Thanks for the heads up Ingrid.
Hi Jonathon, and Hi again Ingrid. I think we need to "hold the phone" here. I played around with the "Relationship Report" app again today, and it's working fine for me. It's taking relationships out to 20-30 steps. Here's an example. One of my site members just read an article I posted about a distant relative of mine. She commented on the article that she found the history interesting, even though she is not related to the subject at all. Well I checked with the relationship report, and indeed she is connected to the subject of the article by 22 steps. The app calculated that the person in the article is her "1st cousin 4 times removed's husband's step father's 4th cousin 2 times removed." I played around with the app putting in names I knew were barely connected; having to go through several different family marriages and quite a few generations. The calculation never came up with a "not related", or a "too distant to calculate" message.
Now, I do have only 2,000 folks in my tree, and my 30 plus site members are all in the tree somehow, even if by marriage, or by a very distant colonial ancestoral connection. I have a couple of 7th and 8th cousins as well as one or two "cousins-in-law" as site members. So if you have a huge family tree, it may stop the calculation after a while, but I think it should take it out 30 maybe 40 steps. Anyway, it suits my needs, and I love using it. You're right Jonathon. Fancy the tech dept actually listening. Now there's a concept. Keep it up Heritage....I like the direction.
Hi Carol--I just saw your post and tried it on my on-line tree with a relationship similar to the one you described. The answer still was that there is no close relationship, although I know that the person is my 4th cousin twice removed. I know this, because the relationship calculator on my off-line tree in myHeritage Family Tree Builder DOES calculate it for me. I am now totally perplexed. If you used it on an on-line tree and it worked, why doesn't it work on my on-line tree? Or do you use FTB, because it does work fine there?
I'm back Ingrid....I hate to tell you :) but my calculator is still performing well. I was putting in names that were my 4th, 5th 8th cousins, and threw in some of their spouses. I was putting in ancestoral spouses from the 1700's. It was charting them out correctly in the visual diagram. Then I started picking out names of people who were distantly related to me to see if they were somehow connected to each other. If there was no connection, it would say so, but if there was a thread connecting them, the calculator would chart it out. Here's an example: I put in the name of one of my 4th cousins once removed, then I put in the name of a person in the tree who is very distantly connected to me. That person was my "great granmother's uncle's son-in-law." The calculator did find a connection between those two and charted it out, and it was a real stretch to make the connection. The program calculated that the relationship between my 4th cousin and the other guy was "3rd cousin once removed's husband's cousin's husband."
When you're on your online site, does the program put a caption under the names of the people explaining how they're related to you? You know what I mean? Like when you are browsing through your tree and you pick out someone to view their profile, does the program explain your relationship to that person? When you're on their profile page, does the program chart out your relationship to that person at the top of the profile page? If all that is working, I can't understand why it's not doing the same thing for you in the relationship calculator. You may have to get the tech boys and girls to see what they can do for you.
In my on-line tree it only puts a caption for close relationships, nothing like what you are reporting. How can this be? I have always been a premium plus subscriber. I think it's time to contact the support team and refer them to our thread?
Then, yes, your program isn't working properly, and you should contact the support team. I've had to do that several times in the past. It takes them a while to get back to you, but once they do they try their best to fix the problem. I still have one glitch on my site that I have made them aware of, but so far, it has not been fixed. It's the tab at the bottom of the main page that says "view older news". When clicked on my site, it does not bring up the older news.
Anyway, good luck and I hope the support team can make it all better for you.
Carol--I think I found the answer myself. Apparently the on-line calculator works fully for up to 5000 peple. Between 5000 and 17000 it only does 'close' relationships, so presumably for more than 17000 it doesn't work at all! My tree has 6298 people in it. Not small, but not huge either. Most trees that I have matches with have many more, some in the hundreds of thousands. I just don't understand why the on-line relationship calculator cannot be made to work the same as the FTB calculator.
Support Team--how about please, please upgrading the on-line relationship calculator to the same capacity as the FTB calculator? Site members do not have access to FTB and can only use the on-line calculator!
Yes, I do use the FTB, too, but I was using the online site's calculator to get the results I reported to you in this forum. Hmmmm. I haven't used it for about a week, so let me experiment with it somemore, and I'll get back to you soon. I'll test relationships that I know are 4th cousins to me. :)
On the bottom of the Charts page, you have the option to choose the person who's going to be the subject of the chart and also the amount of generations to show. (Please, see the below attached image).
I agree with all of those who have posted about this topic. In my opinion, this is a big mistake on your part to remove this feature. It is a valuable tool for those of us who like to do a deeper research into our family tree. It helps us in our reports to members of our family as well as helping our fellow site members understand their connection to each other. I can't understand how a genealogy service such as yours would not deem this feature a vital part of its website. I hope you truly do take a second look at your decision to remove it, and return it to your "Reports" options.
Thank you for highlighing this. I also wrote to the office about this. When you have a complex family tree members find this tool really helpful, I know some of my family members have missed it. I do hope you reconsider and restore it.
