Today I twice needed to add an existing family member to parents. On both occasions it looked OK until you do smart matches - then it says mum is dad and vice versa. To add insult to injury it has swapped the parents positions in the online tree. i.e Mum now on the left and dad on the right (although mum is still pink and dad blue) This bug was probably introduced in your recent updating smart matches - please do some testing before you release it. Another odd thing. When I looked at the tree on-line (by clicking on a child to get a look at relatives) it moves mum left and dad right, but when clicking on Mum to get a look at her antecedents it swaps the positions of the parents, i.e. dad left and mum right.
It has happened again - but even worse. I realised that a child was connected to the wrong mother. First I deleted the connection with his parents. Then as I was going to connect his with the right mother I hesitated and cancelled the action. I deleted the child instead. Then I created a new entry for him adding with the right mother. Lo and behold when I looked at the smart matches not only were the parents mixed up but his dad's sister was shown as one of his partners ! My solution is to delete the child for now and maybe add him back on another day.
It has happened again - I decided to delete 2 children from a blended family. Allan Ernest Walter had 2 wives. Olga Theyers and Iona Ramsey Robson. When I did that - it now leaves the remaining child with his correct mother but when smart matches are done it puts mum in dads position and vice versa, and when you come back to the family tree screen Mum is now on the left. So please fix this bug.
You're right, this is a bug in our system: when using the "connect to parents" option of a child ( partner) the position of the parents persons cards change places. Our developers are aware of the issue and working to resolve it as soon as they can. I will update you regarding this, and apologize for the inconvenience.
Its still happening - When is a new release coming out with this fixed? My Scottish ancestors and relatives seemed to marry among themselves so it is not unusual to find someone who I thought was not a relative become a relative when I check, and I want to attach them to their parents without this effect.
Maybe it just doesn't do it any more - but what do I do about the ones that are already swapped - One is George Hunter (1665-?), whose parents Jeanet Paterson (1642-?) and James Hunter (1642-?) are still shown in reverse, ditto Euntice Lenton Titmarsh (1809-1863) and husband John Titmarsh (1810-1887) also Iona Ramsay Walter(1923-1953) and her husband (Allan Ernest Walter (1923-1999). I can't remember all the other ones.
I fixed this for you for the first couple, the other two I could not see that appear in reverse. If you see this in any place in the tree, detaching a person from the parents and the re-connecting them fixes the reverse appearance.
There's a picture spread for almost everyone with the name Bure or Bureus, it's Johannes Bureus (1568-1652) who wrote about the Bure family; there's three different Johannes Bureus but a quick check on Wikipedia or other netpages will show who is who
I have found the name of a relative. At the present I have them listed as unknown. I cannot figure out how to add the name to their profile. Anybody help? I am just learning to navigate through this stuff!
I have constructed three separate trees and recently the program automatically resolved "inconsistences" which resulted in adding 300 to the main tree, who were all just repetitions of existing names so now there are same sex marriages (how modern!), marriages across families and generations and merging of several familiies into one. This has undone hours and hours of work and I don;t know what to do short of erasing it all and starting again. An added irritation is that smartmatches is throwing up cray things as a result of this. Help!
I also have had the software do the same deleting/switching of spouses and children. I printed out branches just before saving the project. When the project was opened later about 5% of the relationships were now wrong!
I have spent the majority of time now on MyHeritage repairing the bad connections caused by the software.
I have also found that using MyHeritage Forums will not accept 'replies' if you use FireFox as your browser. This has been submitted using MS InternetExplorer.
