This and other formatting problems have been there from the beginning. Some have gotten fixed since then, but by no means all and for the life of me I cannot figure out why--it can't be that hard! To see your FTB notes in their entirety and modify them, you have to double-click on the Note icon. Then be sure to click 'okay' AND THEN 'SAVE' when you get back to the tree, or all will be lost! This is very annoying but not fatal. And I agree that you should be able to see your FTB note in its entirety on the Tree page by just scrolling down, for there is always a danger of messing it up unintentionally on the modifiable page--believe me I have done it with some long and complicated ones. It would also sure be nice to have some basic functions in the notes such as italics and underlining. Synchronization between FTB and on-line tree also leaves much to be desired--e.g. the choices you have in FTB to rearrange the order of siblings or marriages are not carried over to the published tree on-line. On the whole I enjoy this program and I am grateful it even exists, but some simple (I think, but what do I know?) things should be fixed.
As a long-time premium-plus member I would be glad to send the myHeritage support team a list of long-standing problems if someone would take a good look at it and work with us to fix them!
Thanks, Ingrid. I'd be happy to work with you on this list and would be pleased to be a "beta" tester for any fixes they come up with. I'm working on our tree(s) with other more knowledgeable people that I believe would join us. -- Ben
Please let me know if there's a better way to construct this list than continuing this thread. Also let me know if there are ways to do the things I mention below. I've only been at MyHeritage.com for a few weeks but I've used quite a few other desktop and online genealogy systems. Anyway here's a start:
MyHeritage should offer an option to extract and use caption/title/description information within uploaded jpeg photos.
It should be possible to import a gedcom and photos from Family Tree Builder and have the result be an editable online tree with editable photos that have all the photo associations and tags maintained. It's fine to start with the published FTB tree being not editable online, but it should be possible for the administrator/publisher to change that and make the tree and photos editable without losing people tags and associations.
Text formatting in biographies and notes should not be undone when moving between MyHeritage online and FTB
One should be able to point out known matches in other trees without waiting for SmartMatches to find them.
It should be possible to specify matches among the trees on one site or to have SmartMatches find them. Often people maintiaining trees like to keep major branches in different trees but have the links amont the trees note.
It would be good to be able to save a crest in a form that one could go back and change just a few things in the crest without having to start from scratch.
I will be sure to forward them to the appropriate departments for future consideration.
Please let us know if you have any other ideas, either through message threads in forums or by directly mailing us at support@myheritage.com. We take your suggestions seriously and value such input from our users.
I was attempting to drag and drop photos posted by members on my website to new albums so that they would fit the proper file size for downloading. However when I drag and drop from "recenlty recieved" album copies remain in this album. As a result I duplicated many of the photos, thinking the action did not work, in the new albums. When I tried to delete the extra copies from the new albums it warns me that the action deletes the photos from "all " albums including the " recently recieved" I assume. Why can I not delete only selected photos and why do copies remain in the "recently recieved" album. It would be much easier to manage the transfer when there are a lot of photos. In other words I would know the photos are dealt with when transferred or removed. This is one of many issues I having with the software. I look forward to your response.
The ‘Recent Photos’ album is a virtual album. This means that it cannot be deleted, and no editing actions can be performed on this album., including dragging photos to other albums.
The delete photo option on the site can only delete the photo from ALL albums. If you used the copy function and need to delete a photo that exists in two or more albums, it will be necessary to download the photo, go back and delete it from all albums on your site and then upload the photo again to the correct album.
Thanks Lior, That really sucks. Before I got your message I downloaded the whole site to my builder program thinking that would bring the new photos but not so. I think the Design for Aggrivation Department at MyHeritage.com is working overtime to make life miserable for users. Also its been over 3 weeks since I sent my email to the support staff at My Heritage. I do however appreciate your response. I am assuming you are a user as well and are just trying to help out in the forum. I have had numerous issues with the smart match process from the builder program and have had an overwhelming 1500 matches. But have not posted any of that. Maybe things will improve with experience. Thankyou very much.
I see that you can build a family crest, but the options do not include the needed pieces of my family crest. Is their a way in which I can add an image as the crest. I have added one to an album, but I want it to display on the tree as would one that was "created" throguh the crest builder.
We currently do not have the option you are asking for, although thank you for the suggestion. I will be sure to forward it to the appropriate department for consideration.
In the meantime, you can upload your own Family Crest as your site photo in Settings > General > Personalize and upload an existing image.Best regards,
I'm the administrator of my family tree and for the last 3 days I'm not able to administrate and manage my web site. The option to aggregate new people has disappeared and no one is recognized as administrator. I've send multiple notifications to the Myheritage support team without response so far. Other family members experience the same problem: not able to aggregate or invite other people. I checked this on multiple computers and browsers and the problem is the same. In addition, as a test, I created a fully new tree from zero with a different user name/web-site and things work fine, so the problem is especific to my family tree. I hope someone can help me.
You both have trees that were created in Family Tree Builder, so you won't be able to edit them online on your site.
If you built your tree in Family Tree Builder, each time you would like to make changes to your tree online, edit your tree in Family Tree Builder and then re-publish your family tree to your family site. This will update the previously published tree (with the same name) on your site.
I've made several attempts to generate a chart or a book from a tree in my profile. However, every time it tells me that an error has occurred and to please generate it again.
At first I thought perhaps I tried to export _too_ much and maybe hit some kind of resource limit. But something like the family book doesn't have very many options to overload it, but it still fails. Or even a simple chart where I limit the generations to, say, 3 (to limit the data and resources needed).
Am I doing something wrong? The client-facing errors don't really give any information, they just say to try again. Is there any way to determine specifically why it failed? Or can someone give me common reasons why it would fail?
Thank you for writing to us, and sorry about the large delay.
There is indeed a bug that causes some Book Reports to fail in the site, and the best way to overcome this is to create the same report in the Family Tree Builder.
Once you have the GEDCOM of your tree, you will be able to import it into the Family Tree Builder, and create the report there.
there should be an option to export a tree to GEDCOM. However, when I go to "Manage trees" the only options I see are:
View
Download original GEDCOM
The original GEDCOM is great, but it doesn't contain any of the updates made since it was originally uploaded. Is there something additional I need to do in order to export the current data to GEDCOM?
Please note that I'm _very_ new to this and was only recently invited to join this tree. I suppose it's possible that the owner of the tree(s) in question has disabled this feature. Is that possible?
