Thank you for writing and we do appreciate your great patience with us.
I would like to point out that you can access a list of people you invite to your family (which are called site members) by hovering with your mouse on the Home button and clicking "Site Members" - there you would have a list of people including the status of their invitation.
In order to remove a member you can follow the next instructions:
I have researched my american roots pretty far and now I want to focus on my family that is from germany and try to figure out who they really were but I cannot for the life of me find anywhere to search for german records... does anyone know where I can find them? So far I can only find that Ancestry is supposed to have them but I can't afford to pay for them and this at the same time, so I was hoping there was another way I could acess the records.... I also have an account on world vital records but they don't have germany either :(
A good starting point for german (and many other) records is www.familysearch.org. Of course, there are a lot of wrong decrypted (from the filmed churchbooks) data, but most entries are doubled from different point of view. it helps anyway to find pathes to the ancestors. With a little bit 'Sherlock Holmes' it works.
I always do a Google serach with a specific name with event year. Sometimes, the results points to a partially tree in Ancestry, another online system or a private website with lots of information and contacts.
With the MyHeritage SmartMatches it is also possible to find other 'relatives' with a family site containing a part of Your roots. And this will create very nice and interesting contacts.
Unfortunately, most of the german archives don't offer an online fulltext capability, some offering scanned pictures from their chuchbooks. It depends in what region You want to search for traces.
THanks for your response! Yes I have tried Family search but they don't seem to have any information I need... The particular relative I am looking at is said to have snuck into the country around 1910 and it seems to be supported by the fact that I cannot find a record of her on any of the ship records coming out of germany near this time(even if I try variations on her name). What I suppose I need is census records and birth records from germany which I know Ancestry has at least some census records from germany.... This relative is in my tree here on myheritage and has not generated any smart matches, neither has her parents so that is a dead end for me for the moment... she also had only the one child who only had one child go on to start a family this trend continued down to my family group which tells me there probably isn't many if anyone looking for her. I do have records from her stay in the Assylum where she tells of her family but she claims to have come from royalty and fled the country after watching her family being murdered... and while the people she claimed were her family do seem to exist I have found no records to support her other claims or that they were missing a child. I have also tried searching for her on google and yahoo etc but I only really have her birth event to search off and all the results seem to only lead back to the Stargardts of the US and not the ones I need in Germany.... I will definately check out the link you posted at the bottom hopefully I can find some answers there.
every time I click on a link for the look a like meter it send me to a page for the mobile version of your site. I already have that and there is nothing but the celebrity look a like thing on there. we trying to see who the baby look like more mom or dad
Does anyone know how to find out what changes have been made in the last year. I can see many photos were uploaded and one death was recorded but want to make sure that I haven't missed anything. I am not maintaining the site and the person who does cannot tell me every change they made in the last year. Help?????
I am not really sure how far back it goes but on the trees home page you can see many of the changes made, The one on my sisters site she made for her husbands family goes back to 2011 when they joined but they also are not very active on here... so when you get to the home page you will see "welcome" and then a blurb about the tree, then below that is "whats next" below that is "Family news" under this heading is where you should see the changes
I was just wondering if a new Forum could be launched? I've seen other forums on line where interested parties could talk back and forth to one another, or ask questions to the entire group, or for help on finding information about specific relatives, such as dates of birth, or places of death, or name of parents, etc. That would be a great tool for us to have at My Heritage. Of course, I realize we're talking about thousands of families, which might make it impossible. But, just a thought.
I completely understand you, and it is complicated for us, the customer service as-well. We are definitely trying to improve the system and we are working on better ways to communicate with our customers. Thank you so much for your feedback as it is much appreciated.
I have requested membership in only one other family site since the beginning. I have also approved membership in my tree for only nine persons. However, I keep getting emails of family site updates for sites I haven't requested membership in. Why? I am not interested in their updates, nor do I wish to be updated on sites to which I am not a member. It's very irritating. Could it be that if others invite me to be a member on their site, that I automatically am a member of their site, whether I want to be or not??? Can this problem be addressed?
Thank you for writing us again, and I would like to mention that indeed the details that you have supplied do happen.
When a person has a successful match with you in smart matching and he invites you to his tree, you are automatically added to his site to explore his tree. We understand that it might be irritating to some, but it could lead to great discoveries. We do appreciate your feedback though and we will take it into account.
I would also like to mention that you can unsubscribe from emails from specific sites:
I too find that all of those e-mails are less than enjoyable. I also do not wish to be automatically added as a member of someone elses site just because they ask me. Shouldn't I have the option of saying NO?
The reason for this decision stems from the fact that the only person truly gaining from this automatic user invite is the user who is invited - because he has an opportunity to go and look through the tree of the confirmed match which is something incredible for a genealogist to find out more relevant information (such as going through their documents).
It's also a great opportunity to come in contact with family members you didn't know you have!
The downside that you mentioned (receiving emails from this foreign site) is indeed irritating and I already forwarded a suggestion regarding that matter for the proper departments to try and fix this.
It is important to note though, that the fact that they invited you to their site only enables them to come in contact with you and NOT your sites - which means that your information is completely safe.
I would be glad if you could tell me what else bothers you about this fact and I'll be more than happy to forward your other suggestions as well to how we can make the experience better for you.
I am seeking information about what happens to a family tree site if a Premium subscription lapses. The only related topic I could find in the forums just indicated that one wouldn't be able to edit or grow the tree in that situation. Would the site still be viewable? Would I have the option to remove members in order to get back under 250?
Before we pay for the Premium subscription, we wanted to know what happens with the data should we downgrade back to basic.
Thank you for asking. When you Premium will be over, and you will decide to not upgrade it again you can make your account back to 250 individuals and all will be again as in the basic version. Kindly let me know if you have more questions.
I haver read several threads in these fora, and obvously some improvements have been made, I have no problems with "illegitimate" (horrible word) children.
BUT. There is no longer (and certainly not everywhere) a given fact that a married woman will change her surname. This fact shows up correctly in the family tree when I look at it online, but I am trying to make a family book for my mother in law. In this book, I am given my husbands name, which is not correct. And my daughter is given the surname of her childrens' father - whom she was never even married to. Why does it not just display the names I have written in the records? As it is, it looks confusing and somewhat ridiculous.
