Most functions are available both in the online editor and the software.
I have converted your family tree to an online version so you can try it out. If you don't find it convenient for you, you can go back to work on the software (the conversion didn't delete the project from your software).
By the way, I see that you imported a gedcom tree to your site. This is an editable version but doesn't include the photos association. I recommend to delete it and avoid duplicate family trees:
Is there still no way to convert from FTB-tree to online tree?
I really want both options.
1) when I am in a place with no internet I use FTB to update/research/show the content of my tree.
2) I want my family members to help update the tree.
Do I really need to manually update all the time?
The main problem is the images, the rest is fixed by deleting the tree and uploading a new gedcom.
For some reason it seems the gedcom from the backup imports the images while the one from FTB does not.
So the solution is to manually update my FTB with the edits that my family tree members make and then when there has been a new backup made I download the backuped gedcom and load it as a online tree.
This works but lead to multiple copies of pictures, I would also have to turn off smart matches in the online tree, but I like the online environment for smartmatches best.
Is there plans for changes in this area that migh help us decide whether or not to use FTB?
Thank you for writing and we do appreciate your input.
We do have plans and we are actually in the process of working to enable editing of your family tree for all members in your site.
We already made the first step towards it with our new Family Tree Builder v7.0 software which was released a few days ago. You can download it in the download page. The new software enables you to sync between your family tree builder software on your computer and the website. Which means that you can make changes on the web browser, mobile app and they will be all reflected to the software as well!
However we still did not include an option to enable syncing to other members due to some technicalities that we need to solve before.
Glad to hear that there are plans to make it so I can sync to Family Tree Builder and still allow my family members to edit the family tree on-line. I was really excited about the 7.0 version until I ran into that limitation. My parents don't have internet access and so when I visit them it would be nice to be able to use Family Tree Builder to capture any updates. But, my siblings have used the on-line site to edit the tree and I don't want to lose that capability either. For now I'll just have to capture the changes on paper and then make the on-line updates later.
I can hardly wait for the new feature to make it. Any estimate on when the sync and on-line edit capability will be ready?
I want to thank you and your company for a site and product that I enjoy using. I have looked at a number of other sites and desktop apps but keep coming back to your company's products due to the features, ease of use and low cost. Keep up the excellent work!
Thank you so much! We are glad to hear that we have happy customers that enjoy our services.
Unfortunately we do not currently have estimates on when the full online capability will be available but I would like to state that we are working very hard on it.
Hello Daniel,
I am a really happy user of the Tree Builder software and really happy user of the site from almost 1 year and 1 month ago I became a memberpremium plus and I am enjoying a lot the new features.
The problem that I have comes with the new Tree Builder Software, there is something in there that do not let me Sync or publish my work from the software to the online website.
I followed the steps, first I opened the project that I am working on, second I clicked in the Sync(publish) button but then a message appeared in wich says that " You tried to Sync the familiar project "name of my project" to the familiar website "name of my project" that does not exists.
The interesting thing is, I do have a website on MyHeritage Page, is the one that is PremiumPlus, and the familiar site is called the same as my familiar project. Why does this happen?.
The only way I found how to update my project from the software to the site is saving the project as GEDCOM, then updating it to the site but is not the same., I mean besides using this way it wont uploads the pictures and afterall I am paying for the service, although the software is free, but I do really want this to be automatic just by clicking the button Sync.
I will really appreciate your help.
Regards,
Jorge Garza
I am running into the same problem with both of my sites. I have reinstalled the software wirh no luck. I also want to retain the choice to allow others to change the tree or not. I have tried to sync and keep getting a message that the site is temporarily busy. Same message for past 3 days around the clock. The sync prepares and just as it is a high percentage on step 4 of 4 (and about 7 hours later (40,000 individuals on my tree)) the sync fails and the log claims that it was a user abort when I have not stopped the sync at all. Like the other poster, I can only export a GEDCOM and then pull it with the import GEDCOM from online. Result is no FTB file and can't prevent others from changing file since they can only be GEDCOMs at this point. If we could save to the &.uzed format or the *.zed we could at least send the FTB from v 6.0.0.5634. That isn't even an option. We all need a fix for these things for the new v 7.0 and need it yesterday. Please provide whatever fix ASAP. It has already cost me 3 years (or will) to replace some 3,000 photos that one of your other new versions stripped out all photos. Pretty costly with a premium plus sub for 5 years in advance. Help, Help, Help. Thanks in advance.
A little confusing. I have my family site and that is alll. Somehow I am the owner of another family site. Can someone help as I have had requests to add members that do not belong to me.
I can see that you are now manager of two sites: Wrenn Family Website and Clemons Web Site (Created by Joan Mooneyham Clemons). Please explain which site is not yours so that I can assist you further.
Thank you so very much! The Wrenn Family site is mine and the Clemons Site is not mine. I am in need of a little more research in this and am needing to know if when I renewed, was it mistakenly applied to the Clemons web site.
Hi, yes please demote me from the Clemmons site. It was NEVER mine, and thank you.
I know the Wrenn site is expired. I tried to find out if in renewing the Wrenn site it was credited to the Clemmons site and have gotten no answer.
In the future once this mess gets straigtened out I may renew. Until then I would like to view my Wrenn site without it being masked. Is there a way to reset it? Before I became a premium member I still could see everything even if I had too many people.
If you would like to stop being a site manager of Clemmons site, I can demote you to be just a site member. Your Wrenn site is currently masked because it's Premium plan expired and it is over the limit for a basic site of 250 people.
I started using FTB a week ago and am a Basic member, evaluating the package before paying for membership. Immediately after entering my data online FTB found matches with many others, they are genuine matches and if I pay I can confirm these matches.
I am however concerned by the level of data held by some others, eg birthdates and birthplaces of myself, my husband and my children, which were presented to me as a possible match for my own data. I have carefully omitted this information myself, entering only names and sometimes birthyear. So the information about myself has not come from me, which is fine, it is the nature of genealogy for this to be discovered. But I am concerned that our data is out there to be presented as a match over and over, in such detail, to non-family members who have a similar name but no relation. As a Basic member I cannot contact the person to ask that the data be kept for his/her eyes only, no need to be in such detail outside of his/her own personal computer.
I understand that non-site members see <private> for living persons, but since this obviously does not extend to matches, I perceive a security issue. Can the software be set so that full birthdate of living persons is not shown in the matches? Or is there some way at least for a basic member to send a request for data restriction if we find our own out there?
Irene Dillon (very happy to make contact with genuine family members, hoping no one takes my concern as personally directed to them).
Smart Matches are a very good solution for peoples' need to protect the privacy of their family tree, while allowing them to be discovered by relatives.
If other users have a match with your tree, they will be able to see only the overlapping areas in your tree, plus adjacent deceased people, but not adjacent living people who were not matched.
The contact option (with matched site managers) is limited only to upgraded users to maintain the quality of the Smart Match feature. We don't want to open it to all users, as it will allow users to spam the SmartMatch system. We want to keep it a Premium feature that will enable you to contact active, loyal and serious genealogoist as yourself.
If you want to enjoy the SmartMatch feature, I would recommend that you consider upgrading your site. If you wish I can offer you a monthy payment that will allow you to try it out without the long-term commitment.
Let me know if you are interested and I will enable the monthly billing for your site.
I have just started my family tree on myheritage as I am interested to know the link I have to Jon Raud Ivarsson and King Hakon and would like to know if there are any links on here.
I would like some help to understand what Ervalla and Hjelmaster means?
Any help much appreciated.
I also have some information I would like to attach the forums.
