Hello, (I know this is an old thread but it seems the most relevant).
You state that you search in ancestry.co.uk, yet the smart research does not bring up the results that I would get if I enter the details direct into ancestry.co.uk itself. I had one person that gave just three results (all of which were based in the wrong country), yet was able to find the details myself on a site you say you reference.
Also, are you able to include sites such as:
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
http://www.freecen.org.uk/
http://www.freereg.org.uk/
As, although incomplete, they do have a lot of useful information to be able to tie things together.
As we state before, we do look in ancestry.co.uk with the Smart Research feature of the Family Tree Builder with particular details of the person.
Regarding the databases suggested, we will evaluate them and will add them to the Genealogy Search Engine we have here: http://www.myheritage.com/research
I know you said you look in ancestry.co.uk, I was just questioning whether there is something wrong with the way the search works with regard to that site.
There are some people in my tree that come up with no matches at all from smart research, yet if I put the details directly into ancestry myself I do get results (which include ones that are relevant to the correct person). Surely the smart research should call up these results?
I know this is an old thread but I agree you should have options to limit research to specific areas. I have used the smart research on some of my encestors that I know never left the UK, indeed most probably never left their village. So when I smart research I don't need to wade through litteraly hundreds, in some cases, of results from America to find the one from the UK.
Indeed, more specifically as a Scot 99.9% of my records are in Edinburgh, and there's no real tie in with any of the major databases there. Which is a shame, because MyHeritage would be tieing into very 'tidy' and well structured records - doubtless, other orgs will take advantage of this.

Just a suggestion.
I agree, most of my research is also in Scotland, as you can probably tell by my name.
Hopefully - I mean, really enjoying the software etc. but some of the really 'handy' features which would otherwise really bring things together - if they connected to Edinburgh in any meaningful sense - are just a bit....redundant.
Bit of a shame. Folk in Scotland and these islands will be missing out quite a bit - and MH would certainly benefit in a very big way if such connections existed.
Everything works fine on Family Tree Builder, but when I export the data to gedcom files I am unable to validate some of them with GenMerge. The program aborts. Is there any software that will validate the data files and fix the problems? Is there any other software available that will merge these files without creating duplicate records? The merge routine build into FTB is worse than useless. Is there any software that will eliminate duplicate, unlinked, or bad records?
Yes, we have received suggestions by other members for a feature to merge duplicate entries in GEDCOM files. I will push Research and Development to consider this for development. In the mean time, if you purchased GenMerge, I highly suggest you contact them regarding the support of basic GEDCOM file format.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at support.

The problem with corupt ged data stems from files with the same name, but differnet version numbers. gedmerge did not recognize the pathname. Their software has been corrected to look for this extended filename.
I would like to report a runtime error with Family Tree Builder. it's throwing errors with FTB-Research.exe Please, catch these errors to prevent the message from cluttering the screen.
Roots web offers downloading of informaiton from other accounts. Please, add this ability to the My Heritage site. If this feature is already available I don't know how to implement it. The only way I know how to get information from this site is by hand or by request. If the information is posted we should have the ability to download it.
May I have your permission to write a data harvesting program, a bot, to run on your site to capture this informaiton to avoid many hours of personal research?
Thank you for the report of the error with the Family Tree Builder. If you could email the error message to support@myheritage.com, support will be able to understand the error more precisely.
Due to security and privacy reasons, we cannot offer a method to download other users' information. If you would like to obtain a copy of a user's tree, please contact the site manager requesting the GEDCOM file. It might also be of interest to you to request membership to their family site.
Again, due to security reasons, we forbid the use of bots to run on the MyHeritage site. Please note that such activity will force one's account into 'misuse' and will be disabled.
Hello everyone!
I just registered with My Heritage and tried to do research. I typed in my name but the search does not work somehow. Nothing happens regardless how long I wait. There is no progress in the search.
I run a few seraches and saved them. I can see these searches in the list with the number of matches etc but when I want to view them I get just the first or up to second result and nothing else. I see there is an error on the page (javascript) so I guess you have a problem to display the result.
Firefox 3 needs the latest Java package installed in order to work properly. Installation is available from http://www.java.com. Once downloaded and installed, Firefox 3 must be closed (all instances in case more than one Firefox window is open). After that, the Resarch tool should work properly.
It still doesn't work for me. I'm using XP SP3 with the latest FF ver 3.0.1and Java 6 update 7.
I'm getting the following error in the Java console:
java.lang.NullPointerException
java.lang.NullPointerException

at SearchApplet.init(SearchApplet.java:398)
