I have an issue with dates that have month April. I attached a picture about the problem.
If something happened in April, it doesn't show on the person's info card and doesn't count the years either. It doesn't matter if I write the month with numbers or letters, I've even chosen it from the calendar.
It seems, the program doesn't recognise dates with April. The same problem appears, when I just give year and month but not day. It doesn't recognises that either.
I did not know where to put this, just wanted to inform you about that my ZoneAlarm found a Trojan in a program download from original source - in Family Tree builder. It is removed already at my computer so I don't have problems with it anymore (will see if the program still works, I know sometimes these warnings are fake). Just thought you should know and check it out, just not a very reliable feeling if something like this happens.
Could you please let me know which version of Family Tree Builder you downloaded? You can check it by clicking on "Help" in the top menu bar and then on "About Family Tree Builder". A window will open and you will see the number of the version and build.
Meanwhile, we have checked on our end and we didn't see any problem. We believe it might be a 'fake' alert as sometimes antivirus softwares might not recognise a specific file during the Family Tree Builder installation process and alert the user.
Nonetheless, we request from you the version above mentioned so we can analyse the case more thoroughly.
Unfortunately this didn't give me the information I wanted. I want to edit details of the fact photo, like Title, Date and Place. I've only been able to do this for the Fact photo after it is uploaded to the website, on the website. I am able to edit details of Virtual Cemetery photos and General photos associated with a person using the family tree builder program, but the only thing I'm able to do for Fact photos using the program is add or delete them.
I have found that if you keep an 'Album' especially for facts and upload load your image of your fact in FTB to this "Facts" album, though you cannot edit the details in the facts tab, but if you select the photos icon at the top of the screen, you can then select the "Facts" album, then the image (that will have the same name as the file you imported) double clicking on it will alow you to edit the Title, Date, and Place.
Clicking the back icon an the top of the screen will alow you to continue entering facts about that person
You can also actually change the date on that person in Family Tree Builder to free-text and indeed write "111 B.C." and "39 B.C.".
1. Click on the button on the rigth side of the date box, in the Edit details window, and another window will open with the date details.
2. You will see a field called "Type" and probably might now as "Single date". Click on it and choose the option "Date in free text". And then you will be able to write whatever you want on the field bellow.
That seems to work, however it does not put the dates below the person name. Would be nice if you fellas worked on b.c. dates so they were calculated like a.d. dates so you could get a person's age. Future improvement?
So I already posted this on the German forum but I guess I'll be more successful here.
I haven't used FTB in a very long time. Today I decided to download it and update the family tree again, but everytime I try to synchronize I get a message that sounds like this (The Message is in German and my translation might not be the exact wording of the original message)
"The user name connected to this Project (My mail adress) doesn't fit the user name you used to log in (My mail adress again). Click on OK to overwrite the existing user name you used to log in and proceed with the project synchronization."
When I click okay, the synch window opens again for a split second and then crashes. Any Ideas?
I ended up on MyHeritage because 23andMe decided to transfer all family tree data here. When I'm on MyHeritage, I see my family tree (which used to be on 23andme), but I'd really like to merge the DNA based family tree with a GED file I have. To do this, I downloaded Family Tree Builder, per the instructions at:
When I first launched Family Tree Builder, it had me log in to MyHeritage, showed my 23andme imported family tree, but never syncs it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. If I upload me GED file to MyHeritage.com, FTB tells me I have two trees on MyHeritage, but only syncs the uploaded one. Why does FTB not like the 23andme created tree? How can I get FTB to sync it to my PC?
Until a couple of days ago I was able to get the Classic view if I accessed the on-line tree from FTB. Has that been taken away and is the Classic view completely gone? What a pity! Also, no more visual representation of descent from cousin marriages. Will that ever be enabled in the Modern (now definitely only) view?
The Classic view has been discontinued many months ago. You were probably still able to see it because of cache and cookies saved in your Internet browser, so you were actually a saved 'old' version of the online tree on your Internet browser.
I would recommed that you visit our Blog post regarding the New Editor, by clicking on the link below, to learn more about and how to find the features that already existed in the previous editors, as well as finding new ones:
This link takes me to the same page I'm on now. But I did read that blog and saved it. And used its features while explaining on the phone to my brother and sisterin-law how to get around in the tree. This was after they thought I had gone stark raving mad, because we started out with me looking at the Classic view, which they did not have any more. We had a good laugh about that. I still don't understand why you decided to go with the Modern view rather than adding the few features we Classic view users and fans had been begging for since a number of years ago. But what do I know--the reasons for giving up this beautiful version must have been compelling for you to jettison one of your greatest assets and one of the main factors that decided me to sign up with you eight or so years ago.
To improve the only un-beautiful view we have now, at least fix it it so that 1)grandparents and great-grandparents etc. of cousins married to each other are not shown twice and their lines of descent are visually properly represented. 2)Bring back the relationship calculator! 3)Improve the looks of the tree--I fail to see how you can make a swan of this ugly duckling, but please try--you could start with turning the cards vertical.
This 'Modern view' and now only version actually looks and behaves a lot like the off-line FTB, (which is fine, because FTB it is a 'worksheet' tree and doesn't need to be pretty), but it doesn't even have some of the conveniences and features of FTB. It seems to me that the view you present to the world should be good to look at!
