I understand that you are receiving errors when you publish.
This error can occur for several reasons. These reasons may be because either one of the files are corrupt or it could be that the file format is not something we can support and also, If the file is very large as well. ( more than 3000 x 3000 Pixels).
We have logs that allow us to see what goes on behind the scenes in publishing. Please send me these logs and I will be sure to verify this with our developers. This would help us investigate why this is happening, although it is not guaranteed that we may find a solution.
To create a log from the family tree builder program, simply click on:
>right click in the window and choose>start logsfrom the dropdown menu.
After you turn on these logs it is important to publish your family tree, this way the logs will be able to capture the publishing process.
Hi, unfortunately I can't send you any logs. Since I know of some severe problems with the software where I even lost every single data I've ever entered I'm now using tortoise and setup my own SVN server to keep track of things. Once something goes wrong, as in this case, I now revert back to a version where the error didn't occur and just do everything exactly the same.
I can tell you though:"all the files I'm using are plain jpg"
None of them is 3000x3000 or larger..
And yes, I know what I'm doing and saying.
I just noticed when I add the same file 100 times, and revert back each time, suddenly, out of nowhere,
this error pops up.. 99times it doesn't error.. So I doubt it's because of non supported jpg's or size or anything..
else it would error more often then 1 out of 100.
I call it a random issue, and it's easier for me to use a subversion solution then bug hunting ...

Thank you for letting us know. You can go to C:\\my documents\myheritage\name of family tree\photos - when you checked your logs and know what is wrong, and then make the photos which are extremly big half the size so in this case (1500x1500) and then try to republish. It should work.
To transfer your Family Tree Builder Tree from one computer to another:
First, save your family tree from Family Tree Builder onto removable media. The best way to back up your family tree is to use Family Tree Builder’s backup facility on File > Back up Project. It will save a single file, perfect for backup, that contains your family tree and all its photos and documents. You can save it to any removable media device such as a flash/pen drive or CD/DVD.
The backup can then be restored on Family Tree Builder on a different computer, by going into Family Tree Builder on that computer and using File > Restore Project.
When I import a gedcom file into my existing premium family tree it erases my portrait photos. Not sure what I am doing wrong since I haven't imported a gedcom before. The gedcom file does not include photos itself. I have been simply going into the file/import gedcom function and then I selected the gedcom file I wanted to import that was saved on my hard drive. All day today i have had issues with the program being extremely slow and at times unresponsive. I didn't do anything different than what i was doing yesterday but for some reason there is this drastic change. I turned off everything i don't need, restarted my computer several times, changed the settings for publishing, etc. It can take between 2 and 5 minutes to add a new person or save changes once a person is edited. This is really frustrating.
I hope my post isnt ignored like the ones i wrote last year about "Places" not working properly. It still causes frequent crashes so i stopped using it. I hope i don't need to abandon the program all together.
This is day 2 of the same issue and not being able to work on my tree. I set aside time to do some specific things and again i am wasting my time.
I have just used the 'Ask a Representative' option and emailed complaining and requesting assistance. I have several people who have been waiting days for me to make a few changes so that i can share what i have with them.
I can't tell you anything. I debated even responding because I was afraid it would get your hopes up that they were actually going to say something about it. It is odd to see which problems they respond to. Sometimes they skip halfway down a page, past issues which I would consider to be more important than the one they actually respond to. There are many issues on here which I think would be so obvious that they should have picked up on them before anyone even complained, repeated over and over again by various people over several years(that should tell them how important it is). Not only without improvement, but without any forum responses either. It doesn't help that forum threads are not "bumped" whenever anyone responds to them(like every other internet message board does). At least then people would have more of a chance to see other more recent posts which might help them.
I managed to get it working again on my own. Somehow there was a registry issue. I uninstalled the program, manually repaired my registry and then reinstalled the program. It still does the "not responding" thing from time to time but at least now i am able to actually work on my tree somewhat. I actually uninstalled the program because i was searching for an alternative. I decided to give it a 3rd or 4th change. This isn't the first time i had an issue so bad i was ready to give up.
The forums here are very different than other places, i thought that admin would receive notifications of new posts but apparently not.
I have yet to hear of a fix to the bug i complained about in September. 138 days later and places still causes the program to crash. I was asked to submit info via email including my tree. They said the problem was fixed but it never was..
What else can you suggest? Reinstalling the software has helped but it has not completely stopped the program from serious lag and the annoying "not responding"that appears at the top.
I did use the email option and received no response. This makes me wonder if the paying customers are experiencing a large number of issues. I have yet to feel comfortable enough with the product and customer service to pay. When i can find the advantage of being a paying member, then i will certainly consider it.
Yes, I "repaired the registry" I manually repaired it as you would any other time windows becomes corrupt and repairs need to be made to the registry. The same thing happened about a year ago when i was in a situation with Family Tree Builder that was much the same as what I am going through now. That time i chose to simply reformat my computer and start from scratch installing only the programs I found necessary to work on my family tree. This is a tree dedicated machine. The how part is really irrelevant. I wouldn’t want to see anyone attempt to repair their registry and make a bigger mess because they read how it was done here.
Why? Because it was corrupted somehow. Considering how i manage my machine i have no reason to believe it was caused by anything other than something to do with family tree builder.
Of course i checked to see if other processes consume a lot of resources. That is always the first thing i check whenever anything isn't running as it should. There is simply no way that 15 processes is too many unless i was attempting to run the program on a system with minimal memory or a lousy processor. I have the maximum memory I can have installed, the minimum number of processes running depending on what i am doing and there is nothing wrong with my processor. All services that I do not need have been disabled or they are only used as needed. My system is never allowed to overheat, I keep it clean inside and out. I have a better than average understanding of how computers work.
I am aware of "Sysinternals" and what they are for. As I have said before, there is nothing wrong with my computer. Windows is in perfect working condition, I have no issues with any other software and have no hardware issues of any kind. I am not here seeking help with my system. I want to know why Family Tree Builder is not working as it should.
I don't remember if it was in this thread or another I had going that I mentioned being disconnected from the internet does not help. I should also have mentioned that I disable the antivirus when I am not connected to the internet. If I am working with known safe files and I am not venturing anywhere that I could contract anything than there is no need to wear hazmat suit. I do not and would not ever use McAfee or Norton, they are the 2 worst antivirus that I have seen as far as being resource hogs. They are bloated and offer minimal protection. I have no viruses on this computer and have never had any on this one.
My browser is clean. I clear out my history, clean up cookies, there are no zombie cookies, no tracking cookies, etc.
I understand that the problem might be in an area other than Family Tree Builder. As far as I can see, there are no other problems with my computer.
In another thread it was suggested that maybe I have reached a number of family members in my tree that would cause the program to have difficulties. I would agree with this because it makes sense, but I had the problem before when I had about 1/4 of the number of family members.
Does anyone know if there is a magic number for file size when the program suddenly does not work as well? I currently have about 28k. I didn’t think that would be an issue since I have heard of others with 50k and higher using the program with no issues.
The program works fine when I want to view, search, add files etc. It is only a problem when I want to edit or add.
I was honestly hoping that someone might suggest something that I haven't tried. I was really hoping for one of those Doh!! moments. Something small that I overlooked.
I had typed a reply to your post but accidentally deleted it and hope the unedited dialogue did not post. Here goes...
Since day 1, upon installing FTB, I've attempted processing a simple individual edit but my computer freezes, the dialogue box goes white and blank, the program is unresponsive, and I am forced to use Task Manager to end task. This then causes improper closure of FTB creating the risk of losing parts of the file. I have tweaked my computer and anti-virus to see if these modifications would solve the problem. I tried Disk Clean,deleting old files. moving larger files to a flash drive, compressing. I cleaned the registry, shredded, defragged, trimmed Services, to no avail. I did receive a reply from tech stating "It must be your computer" - no suggestions or reasons why my computer OS could be responsible or how to sidestep the issues. The User Guide is not helpful either. I am currently using free LDS FamilySearch PAF which is easy to use and provides a Check/Repair and Merge/Match service to remove duplicates and automatically fix file errors for my 32MB tree.
I wonder if infinite loops are causing FTB to lock up? I know my tree is large and cumbersome but I cannot use FTB at all to split it. MyHeritage techs said if I import another tree to their site it would not be included under the Premium Plan.
It seems the above are common complaints. Because of this I would not recommend using FTB to anyone.

what is the easiest way to compare my two trees. My online tree is updated by many others (so it is not possible to publish my FTB version), but my offline tree contains more details in some cases. I want to put my version to the online tree, but I need to see where are the differences.
I believe that the best option for you is to merge your two trees (WEB and FTB) and then eliminate duplicates with the: Check for duplicates tool. That way you will be able to make sure that you have the complete information on your tree.
To do so, please first export your WEB tree to aGEDCOM (enter to the section Family Tree > Manage Trees > Export GEDCOM)
My ex mother in law is a member in my tree. On the member page she appears as my former husbands mother. The case is I'm the man and she is the mother of my ex wife. The wrong designation is as far as I know only on danish.
