I have decided to find an alternative to Family Tree Builder.
I really liked certain features and considered paying for more. When the program quit working properly i asked for help but there was none available. Email support does not reply, the help form only gave me an auto-responder email, forum posts were ignored.
One time i was offered help in the forums from support and they told me to pay for more. It doesn't work like that. If the free version doesn't work than why would i pay for more features that probably won't work?
I would be happy to come back if help were available.
Apparently one person does not matter to MyHeritage.
First, I emailed and received this ticket number, #2012021410002909
Then, I emailed and received this ticket number, #2012022810000644
I never recieved a response to either emal i sent.
In another thread i received a response from a team member that explained to me that"Premium and PremiumPlus users support questions are handled in priority"
That team member has since been deleted so i cannot direct you to his member profile but you can see the post in the thread, http://www.myheritage.com/support-post-564192/suddenly-slow-or-not-responding
What's wrong with the program? It stops functioning properly. It stops responding when i edit or add new members to my tree. It can hang for as much as 5 minutes with each edit. This means it can take as long as 10 minutes to simply add a new person, create the person and add their name and date, click ok then wait 5 minutes. Once thats done i have to edit them to add additional information that i cant when i created them. Then wait 5 more minutes. It can take hours to add a handful of people.
There are 2 other threads with more info going on here:
Yesterday i opened the program and it worked as i had hoped it would. I didnt have to wait an agonizing amount of time when i made edits and added new people. I did nothing to my computer and changed no settings in the program. It appears to be a random issue but that doesnt make it any less frustrating when i have a limited amount of time that i can work on my tree.
I have had this issue for quite some time and i am still looking for someone that can offer a suggestion.
I emailed support. Weeks ago i emailed them and have yet to get a response. I am doubtful that this attempt willl receive any type of response since i still have not upgraded to a paid account.
Family tree builder stops responding each and every time i edit a persons details or add a new person to my tree. It can take anywhere from a minute to a full 5 minutes to make a minor edit. It doesnt just effect the software. I am unable to do other things with my computer while i wait.
I keep the number of running programs to an absolute minimum while editing my tree.
I downgraded to windows XP last year after i had repeated crashes with newer versions of windows.
I tried using the program with the internet disabled but this made no difference.
I have the maximum amount of memory installed in my computer, my processor is good and there are no other issues with my computer whatsoever.
About 2 weeks ago i completely unistalled family tree builder from my computer. I made sure everything else was in proper working order and then i discovered that there were changes made to my registry. These were corrected and i suspect it had to do with family tree builder.
I reinstalled an older version of the program and it did not help.
I installed the newest version of the program and it helped for only a few days.
Now i am right back where i was before.
Please do not suggest that i pay for a different version of the program. I will not pay for additional features that i can't be sure will work when the most basic features are unreliable.
I also think that it is unfair that users of the free version do not receive any type customer support.
Have you checked that your harddrive are in a fine condition? You can get your computer to check you harddrive by:
Run program and enter CMD and hit enter.
Submit the command ind the dos box: chkdsk c: /F /R /X
Restart you computer. Durring startup Windows will check you harddrive for errors and this may take some time.
I have only experienced long response times when working with really large trees (50.000 .)
I have read in some of your posts about paying for support and different versions of the program. Family Tree Builder are for free and there is only one version. Support is also for free no matter what.
There's plenty of room on mine as well. If a program is large enough, a computer must use more resources to run it. With a tree the size of yours, that's a lot of resources; when slows down the computer
When I move up the occupation to the first fact, they're all printed (only the font-size bug remains then)
do I move them back to the 3rd fact to be listed, both the font-size bug AND the missing occupation bug for males
I really hope you do not "consider" but actually "do" fix it for future versions.. if you only "consider" it, copy paste me the code snipped of the object class and the printing class and I'll fix it for you, because I really want the prints to be done properly..
I just imported and merged a GEDCOM from a previous program I once had, because I thought [operative word: THOUGHT] it would be easier than manually entering the missing individuals. NOW I have almost 2,000 DUPLICATE individuals on my tree! How do I go back and eliminate those duplicate individuals, without having to MANUALLY locate each duplicate entry, and then MANUALLY delete the duplicate individuals?
Ween I look in my Photos-folder on my PC (C:\Users\xxxxxxx\Documents\MyHeritage\xxxxxxx\Photos, I have everything from 2, to 8 copies of each photo!!! Can I delete some of them and in that case how do I know which ones?
I updated my family tree just now but everything stopped and I got an error message about "server error". when I logged in to my tree there was NO tree and I was asked to create one! So I uploaded a GEDCOM file from mu original on my PC but when I look at that tree there are NO pictures! So I added one picture and updated/uploaded the tree again but still no photos!
Whats has gone wrong?
The pictures are back again!!!! Must really have been a server error!!!!!
I'm afraid its not a server issue. My tree has over 10.000 people with over 800 pictures. I just had the same problem, but nothing I did made the pictures visible again. They're still there, mind you - but they won't show. Btw., I also used the restore feature when my regular tree mysteriously disappeared, I was already aware of the fact that gedcom does not include photos.
However, I have NO way of re-associating all these pictures. Apart from the ridiculous amount of time it would take, I don't know who some of these people are. Some of them were imported and their picture was saved in the MyHeritage pictures folder with a number instead of the persons name. And to think that as recently as a week ago I was seriously considering signing up for a premium membership!
I think that unless the issue is truly solved within the next 72 hours, I will be spending my money on a different genealogy program instead.
