I'm having an issue while using Merge function - Step by Step. The dialogue box is displayed, however not all of the data fields that should be able to be edited can be edited due to incorrect sizing of the dialogue box.
The problem is local to my PC because I don't see this issue when I checked using an alternate PC. I have rebooted the problem PC and I have even upgraded FTB from ver 5.0 to ver 6.0 wich did not resolve this problem.
I don't recall making any changes to my PC's settings, either inside or outside of FTB that could explain why only this dialouge box is not displaying correctly. All of FTB's other dialouges are displaying corectly.
Appreciate a reply if someone else has had this issue and knows what they did to fix it. Thanks.
I am having the same issue. It is not a problem of type size. This problem began when I upgraded to version 6, and I sent in the error a while back hoping for an update to fix this error.
The window itself is not the correct size (I know this from the previous version of using the program v5), and therefore you can't see the comparative information from the other tree when you are doing the step-by-step compare. Thus, this important feature is not available to me to use.The window size specified in the software call is either specified incorrectly or called incorrectly.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted Windows and that does not make the problem go away. Please get to the bottom of the software bug and issue an update soon.
Is it possible that you have more than one tree (project) on your Family Tree Builder and that you are looking to a different tree than the one you saved the last time? To check if you have a duplicated project, please enter to "File" > "Manage Projects" there you will see the entire list of trees that you have on your computer and when were last modified.
Please note that the Family Tree Builder storage is completely reliable. If you make a change, close the tree and reopen it later, the change will remain. Furthermore, the system saves "AutoRecovery" files every few minutes (5 mins by default) and create Backups every 7 days (also customizable).
In addition, if you publish your tree to the family site, you will have a online backup that can be restored to your family tree builder with a few clicks in case you needed.
Hope this information is useful. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly to: firstname.lastname@example.org for further comments or questions.
I have experienced that some users, having the same problem, are using restore to open their project instead of open. Also be sure you are not working on different projects... you can see a list of all your projecs in File > Manage projects.
I occasionally get an error during the publishing process as per this example,
Warning: 1 photos were not added to the site. The photos may be missing, have incompatible format or are corrupt.
It would be so nice if it named the problem file it was having a trouble with. It's not always obvious and would take out the guess work. In this case it was because I removed a picture from Tree Builder but it was still on the online site. Once I deleted it from the online site I republished and no error was reported.
I understand that you are receiving errors when you publish.
This error can occur for several reasons. These reasons may be because either one of the files are corrupt or it could be that the file format is not something we can support and also, If the file is very large as well. ( more than 3000 x 3000 Pixels).
We have logs that allow us to see what goes on behind the scenes in publishing. Please send me these logs and I will be sure to verify this with our developers. This would help us investigate why this is happening, although it is not guaranteed that we may find a solution.
To create a log from the family tree builder program, simply click on:
>right click in the window and choose>start logsfrom the dropdown menu.
After you turn on these logs it is important to publish your family tree, this way the logs will be able to capture the publishing process.
Hi, unfortunately I can't send you any logs. Since I know of some severe problems with the software where I even lost every single data I've ever entered I'm now using tortoise and setup my own SVN server to keep track of things. Once something goes wrong, as in this case, I now revert back to a version where the error didn't occur and just do everything exactly the same.
I can tell you though:"all the files I'm using are plain jpg"
None of them is 3000x3000 or larger..
And yes, I know what I'm doing and saying.
I just noticed when I add the same file 100 times, and revert back each time, suddenly, out of nowhere,
this error pops up.. 99times it doesn't error.. So I doubt it's because of non supported jpg's or size or anything..
else it would error more often then 1 out of 100.
I call it a random issue, and it's easier for me to use a subversion solution then bug hunting ...
Hello,I'm having then same issue. The details in the error message are not clear and not give the relevant information to solve this issue. I think that it will help if you add the faulty file names to the error log. Thanks in advance,
Thank you for letting us know. You can go to C:\\my documents\myheritage\name of family tree\photos - when you checked your logs and know what is wrong, and then make the photos which are extremly big half the size so in this case (1500x1500) and then try to republish. It should work.
To transfer your Family Tree Builder Tree from one computer to another:
First, save your family tree from Family Tree Builder onto removable media. The best way to back up your family tree is to use Family Tree Builder’s backup facility on File > Back up Project. It will save a single file, perfect for backup, that contains your family tree and all its photos and documents. You can save it to any removable media device such as a flash/pen drive or CD/DVD.
The backup can then be restored on Family Tree Builder on a different computer, by going into Family Tree Builder on that computer and using File > Restore Project.
When I import a gedcom file into my existing premium family tree it erases my portrait photos. Not sure what I am doing wrong since I haven't imported a gedcom before. The gedcom file does not include photos itself. I have been simply going into the file/import gedcom function and then I selected the gedcom file I wanted to import that was saved on my hard drive. Any help is much appreciated. thanks Rob
All day today i have had issues with the program being extremely slow and at times unresponsive. I didn't do anything different than what i was doing yesterday but for some reason there is this drastic change. I turned off everything i don't need, restarted my computer several times, changed the settings for publishing, etc. It can take between 2 and 5 minutes to add a new person or save changes once a person is edited. This is really frustrating.
I hope my post isnt ignored like the ones i wrote last year about "Places" not working properly. It still causes frequent crashes so i stopped using it. I hope i don't need to abandon the program all together.
This is day 2 of the same issue and not being able to work on my tree. I set aside time to do some specific things and again i am wasting my time.
I have just used the 'Ask a Representative' option and emailed complaining and requesting assistance. I have several people who have been waiting days for me to make a few changes so that i can share what i have with them.
