thank you for asking. Unfortunately, there is no special tool to delete a whole branch in online family tree. You need to delete profile by profile. Please make sure that you will start from the person who is located at the end of the branch - I meant the person who does not have extra profiles around.
I was under the impression that the "recent photos" page on the site would not be visible to guests. However, I am told by site members on my family tree that they can indeed see the last 100 photos on that page. There are duplications there (created mistakenly by me) and since no editing is possible, I would prefer that no once else can view them. Can you please educate me? Thank you!
The "recent photos" page on the site are visable to guests given that the photo album in which you have posted your photos on is not private. If you are interested in making sure these "recent photos" are private, my solution would be to make sure the photo album in which you are posting it to is kept in a private setting.
In order to make your photo album private, please take the following steps:
1. Click on Photos & Videos > Find.
2. Click on the album you want to make private.
3. Click the Edit Details button.
4. In section 3 of the edit details screen, remove the check from the box labeled “Make this album public”.
My laptop just died on me; for good this time. Once I get a new one, I intend to download my tree from my personal site. What I'd like to know is what would be downloaded; pictures, people and locations (birth, death, etc)? The reason I ask, is because I've spent the last 5 days combing through my list of places and merging duplicates. Would those changes I made be included in the download?
How do you change the MyHeritage so it uses GEDCOM character sets Ansel, UNICODE and ASCII. At the present time now forming my version GEDCOM files encoded in ANSI, but I would like to change
so GEDCOM file is encoded in Ansel.
I hope someone can help. I have set up my grandfather's tree (my father's father) in FTB. I have birthdays for my father and his three siblings and all display in the correct birth order. I published this part of the tree to a family site, and now my father and his siblings are displayed in the wrong order, even though their birth dates are still correct. (The siblings are displayed as 1st position = 2nd born in 1948, Position 2 = 4th born in 1953, Position 3 = 1st born in 1945, my father is in last position and he is 3rd born in 1950.) Why has this happened and how can I fix it? I would like to invite my family to use and improve the family site, but need to fix this problem before I do.
Is it possible that the order of sibblings shown online is the order you entered them? FTB sort them automaticly by birth order, if it is known, otherwice it sorts them in entered order. It is possible to reorder them in the menu Family/Children/Handle children (im not sure exactly how it says in english version but something like that). Even though they may be in order play around with the order and then make it right again and see if it will be correct after publication.
In any way it is a bug and the above may be a work around.
Thanks, but this didn't work. In the Family | Children | Manage Children I re-ordered them, saved, and then re-ordered correctly, but that didn't change anything in FTB or on the published site. Also, I used the Re-arrange Permantly by Birth Date button in this menu but that didn't do anything either. I have noticed the order of the siblings on the published site is a reverse of their ID on FTB. Could this be possible, and does it mean I have to delete them all in FTB and enter them in the correct order to make them have an ID relating to their birth order?!! Very disappointed if that's the only work around and won't be doing it as that will take too long to fix the other parts of my tree too.
Edited to say: out of curiosity I just published my mother's side of the family and again have an error in birth order!! My mother is shown first, yet she was third born. It is definatly related to the FTB ID, as I entered my mother first then her three siblings. PLEASE help me fix this My Heritage!! I won't invite any members to my sites until I can display the trees correctly.
Here is the important bit of a reply from the MH team to another question.
"Please note that each time that you publish your tree to the site the Smart Match calculation process is restarted. This means that if you publish your tree very frequently you may experience a large delay in receiving the new Matches."
I have the box (described in the Subject) checked, so normally it would automatically 'Publish' what...once a day? I back-up to a thumb thingy every time I close down and ideally much more often. Should I un-check the box, to avoid delaying Smart matches on my Premium account to Family Tree Builder? Or should I check the box, say, every second day only??? Or does once a day not count as 'very frequently'. What is the best way to manage this?
I would like to recommend you to keep the automatic publishing enabled. This will guarantee that your online tree will be always updated and will 'refresh' your smart matches helping you to see those matches that are still relevant.
Hope this is useful. Please do not hestiate to contact us directly to: email@example.com for further comments or questions.
I would appreciate hearing from some of you who have been usiing Family Tree Builder for some time.
I can't seem to find a phone number re contacting the oweners of Family Tree Builder to ask them questions?
Is this free download of Family Tree builder just a gimic and they spring the costs on you later?
Whats the advantage of Family Tree Builder vs Family Tree maker?
If I decide to download it and start placing my people in it; do I have oprivacy of this tree while its on my computer or does the oweners of Family tree Builder able to acess my tree ; when I have it open and I am working on it?
I have lots more questions but this will help me to make a decison whether to download it or not?
Hi Shirley, Family Tree Builder form MyHeritage is free to download and free to use. However, there are limitations. To unlock some of the more powerful features you have to take out an annual subscription to either Premium or Premium-Plus membership, each of which unlocks a few extra features. Also the free version is limited to 249 names on the website if you publish it, Premium to 2499 an Premium-Plus unlimited. A point to note, if you don't publish to the website the limits don't apply. Second point, if you have two versions of tree's that total over 249 people online you have gone over your limit. Third point, if you download and install Family Tree Builder, use the custom install and don't install the optional extras, some people don't like them.
Whats the advantage of Family Tree Builder vs Family Tree maker?
It would not be ethical to comment on another companies products, so no comment other than most of the companies products have, both good and bad points, one has to weigh these up for yourself.
As long as you don't publish online you tree is totally private.
