Hi I have emailed Myheritage a while ago and have recieved no reply so I dont know how wlse to get a response other than addressing individual team members. I suscribed for premium on my mac a year ago, assuming that there would be software for mac aswell, since building my family tree worked fine. But that wasnt the case, so i have paid this year unable to do anything other than build my tree which i could do on other sites. What i asked in my previous email was whether there was in the very near future going to be a mac version? If not i need to record all my family tree data which i only have on your site and subscribe to Ancestry or another site. I also want to know that if i do not continue with premium (which i wont if there is no mac facilities) will all my family tree be lost, as I have a bout 500 family members on there, and i think the free version does not cover this many? PLEASE get back to me, my subscription ends in a month so i need to know what to do.
Hi, Michaela~ I've been on MyHeritage for a year and I love it! I've found so many connections and have new pen pal relatives in Australia and South America. I need to be able to use a Mac now. Here's what you can do. At the bottom of your home page in the green area go to Support, then Help. Enter Applie in the question box and it replies to ask MyHeritage to "flip a switch" so you can do your updates directly on the internet site instead of software. At the bottom it says "Ask an agent by email" - click on it and ask them to "flip the switch" for Mac on your account. You'll get an email confirming your work order, then another when it's done.
To maintain a person profile, find that person in your tree. Click on the person you want to update. The left column shows the current Profile information. The blue button View profile allows you to add information about Education, Work, Favorites, Biography, Web Content, and share your memories of this person. You can also add photos here. Edit Details gives you a small window for name and birth info. The Options drop box lets you Add relatives, View this person's branch, Connect to existing person, Remove connection, Delete this Person. In the left column you can add photos. The main area for updates will be Facts. You can click Add to add the basic information about a fact. Click on an existing fact to add or change information.
Get your "switch flipped" and enjoy! So far I think I like it better than using the Windows program, but I've only been "flipped" for a few days. Kathy
Family Tree display (editable) correctly displays all connections but CHARTS separate out first husbands as a totally separate family tree?!? My grandmother married twice. Her first and second husband (my grandfather) are correctly connected in the FT display along with their corresponding ancestors. However, if I use ANY of the CHARTS, they always draw her first husband and his ancestors as a completely separate family tree totally unconnected to the rest of my relations. If I choose "ALL-IN-ONE", my grandmother is correctly drawn connected to my grandfather. But All-In-One creates an open space adjacent to my grandmother where it draws a completely separate family tree of my grandmother and her first husband. Her data block-portrait is displayed twice, adjacent to each other. Her name is only listed in the NAMES list even tho' the All-In-1 display draws her twice!
All of the charts cause my family to not be displayed if I request my grandmother and her first husband. Is there any way to combine the two family trees as one entity?
Thanks for your post and sorry for my delayed response.
We tried to reproduce the problem on the charts from the family site without success. We created an All in One chart, and the entire family (including the first husband of your grandmother and his ancestors) appear on the same tree. You can see that chart under the section Family Tree > Charts & Books > My Charts of your family site at myheritage.com .
If you still see the problem on charts created from the Family Tree Builder, please send a copy of the chart to me to firstname.lastname@example.org . This will help me forward the problem to our development team for debugging.
Thanks in advance,
I would like to ask when dealing with how the software should set the connection when a person has a child by a woman that is divorced and subsequently has another child by a second wife? As far as I see human data must be entered twice - once for the first child with first wife and once for the second child with second wife. Is there a way to introduce people only once and to identify with her two children by different women?
Thanks in advance!
I just add a new wife to the person in question. Press the Edit button for the person and then go down to Partners. There you can create a new wife or add an existing person in tree. After that you can add a child to that couple. You can also add an existing person as child if you have already entered the person.
I edit my family gedcom into another program (Family Historian). The gedcom has over 200 members, many with OBJE FILE linking to single-face jpg's in a folder. I want to use FTB like "bridge" just to upload my gedcom on myheritage.com site.
After importing the gedcom, photos of people do not appear in the Tree. In Photos I found all pictures properly associated with each person, but I also would like that every photo is the "Personal Photo" appearing in the Tree. To do this I have to go to Photos > select photos one by one > Edit > Associations > select name > check "Personal Photo" > click OK.
This can become uncomfortable if I have to repeat for many members each time I upload the gedcom.
Is there a way to automatically have all the face photos as "Personal Photo" at once appearing in the Tree?
A GEDCOM file is a text file, that doesn’t include the actual photos but it may contain the links to the photos original location on your computer or family site.
When exporting GEDCOM file from the Family Tree Builder, the program suggests you to create a sub-folder and export the photos into it.
MyHeritage.com is supposed to be able to import any GEDCOM file with links for the photos but this does not always work and that is why they don't always appear as personal photos.
We currently do not have the option to automatically have all the face photos as "Personal Photo" in the tree, although thank you for the suggestion. I will be sure to forward it to the appropriate department for consideration.
Almost 70 jpegs of faces are associated to my gedcom file.
When I import the gedcom in other programs (Family Historian, Family Tree Maker, My Family Tree) the images simply show up into the tree.
I'd like to upload this gedcom also in myheritage.com because it's the best site I found to show around.
And of course I want to publish with photos!
I installed latest Family Tree Builder 7 and imported the gedcom... but photos don't appear in 'Family tree'!
They are correctly 'associated' with the persons, but this is not enough to display: I must select a photo, click 'Edit', then 'Associations', select the person name, put a checkmark on 'Personal photo', adjust the 'Face mark', click OK... and that for each of 70 photos!
Is there some simplest solution?
E.g. adding a special tag in gedcom before import?
Or an automated batch processing?
Every f... time I've logged on the last year or so You've insisted on me being a sweed. Well, I'm not so why do you keep on giving me the swedish languange even thou You have all my data from the first second. I change it to Norwegian - you give me Sweed - I change it to Norwegian - You give me Sweed. I've paid for this Shit program - COME ON!!!
I am sorry for the frustration that you feel. The reason for the issue that you describe is that we often change your site into a certain language, based on your location.
If you would like your site to always load in Norwegian, then what you can do is bookmark your family site (or www.myheritage.com) with: ?lang=NO in its address.
For example, bookmark this:
What this will do, when visited, is always go to your site and force the language as Norwegian.
Another solution is avoid logging off every time. When you stay logged on, the risks are very minor, and cookies remain and remember your language preferences. This way visiting myheritage.com will keep you in Norwegian. But you have to log off if someone else is using MyHeritage.com on a different account on the same computer.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I looked through the FTB help & FAQ sections, went through a few pages of forum posts, and tried searching FTB forum posts.
I am having trouble with parent relationships in Family Tree Builder. I need to find a way to separately designate a few parents as adoptive, stepparents, or biological parents within a couple or ex-couple.
Problem: a couple (M1 and W1) had a child but never married. W1 later married M2, who adopted W1's and M1's child. W1 later divorced M2 and married M3. M3 also had children from a previous marriage. I can't figure out how to mark M1 as "natural", W1 as "natural", M2 as adoptive, and M3 as stepfather for the same child. I can of course add all of these parents for one child, but the FTB keeps couples connected, apparently, and when I try to use "Manage Parents" and "Attach/Detach", it will only let me mark W1 and M2 as both "natural" or both adoptive, not one of each, and it will only let me attach or detach both W1 and M2, not one of them without the other. And with M3's children, it assumes W1 is their "natural" mother and won't let me designate her as not without also removing him.
I agree 100% with this. Especially in this day and age, families do not come in nice neat little packages. My sister and I, for example, are the producs of 2 seperate biological fathers but the same biological mother. It was my bio father, however, that raised us BOTH along with our bio mother. In other words, he adopted my sister. The only way that I am able to show this in my family tree is to say that both my father AND mother ADOPTED her -- when putting this information into the book or other features it is misleading because it appears to be saying that my sister is NOT a biological relative of our shared (bio) mother. In addition, when displaying my mother's decendant tree, it appears as though she has 3 children instead of 2 (and looks like I have 2 sisters instead of 1) because it displays my sister TWICE -- once with our mother's marriage to her first husband and once for her marriage to her second husband (my father, who adopted this child).
The same issue is occurring with my nephew, who's bio dad and adopted dad are different, and there are multiple other children from the union of HIS adopted father and bio mother (i.e. 1/2 siblings) (AND his full sister was never adopted by His adopted father) -- again it shows him on there twice so that it appears that my sister had 7 children instead of 6 -- it is showing as 2 from first husband and 5 completely seperate children from the second union --- it SHOULD show 2 from first, 1 of which is linked to second through paternal adoption, and 4 additional from second union. Yes, confusing but ACURATE!
I accidentally uploaded a family tree file to my website last night (forgot to check my publishing settings!!) and noticed all the photos uploaded with it, creating triplicates of all my albums! I have managed to delete the tree from the website easily, but now have all the empty photo albums sitting in my photo area. I can't seem to get rid of these phantom albums (ie, there is no delete function for them). They serve no purpose other than to confuse my site members so can someone please help me, and tell me how to delete these "phantom" folders??
I am trying to show my sister how she is related to someone in the 1700's. I want to select only certain people to print in a family tree. Is this possible with the free version of Family Tree Builder? I am using Windows Version 22.214.171.12465. If it isn't possible with the free version, will it work in the full version? Thank you.
