I loaded my project this morning and the software flagged me that there were no photos loaded. I confirmed that the pictures are still there in the data directory but the associations within the database are now gone. There are almost 1400 photos that I have to re-associate! What happened? Software is up to date and everything else appears to be OK.
I didn't give up - fortunately the software was making backups of the Database. The most recent backup had everything correct - scared the #$%^#$%^ out of me! A simple rename of the corrupted database and a copy of the most recent back restored things.
The saga continues - Now the system has me very confused. There is a photos directory in the MyHeritage data directory with the imported pictures 3 for each picture (thumb nails, the original picture and a mid size picture). I have not changed the location of this directory. There are 4075 items in this directory. However, I have reorganized my source file system to streamline getting to things. Apparently the PCSoftware is using both? its internal data directory and the original file location? Please confirm - Right now I have 0 - that's ZERO pictures/documents etc linked because the software isn't using its own data store. This will take me weeks to recover from.
there is a bug that MyHeritage has not resolved, despite being told several times. If you put a photo into a virtual cemetery (ie. a headstone associated with a burial event), then the published family tree loses its links to photos when the family tree is uploaded. The workaround is to keep FTB open and check if the online family tree retains its photos. If not, then re-save in FTB and republish. This seems to rebuild the index.
I went through teh same drama you did with many photos at risk. I recovred from a local backup too the first time. Then after a bit of trial and error I found the causing event (virusla cemeteries) and the workaround.
Unfortunately My Heritage continues to ignore this bug. This is a blemish on an otherwise superb product.
I would like to know the family of John Dina Michigan. Can you help me how do I find in the U.S.? John Dina 18.04.1905 - 8.10.1991. Your doghter are: Joan Forgach, Eleanor Cipa, Alizabeth D Dunn, Anna Zoltowski
I'm not sure if anything can be done to help this problem, but I figured I'd at least post about it. Whenever the AutoRecovery feature saves, Family Tree Builder freezes for probably 15-20 seconds, maybe longer. I've been having this issue for a while, but it just keeps getting worse and worse as my tree grows. I know the problem is surely because my tree is rather large (currently about 9500 people) and that my laptop isn't the greatest, but I thought maybe the programmers could figure out a way to save quietly in the background without freezing the program (at least for those of us with dual-or-more core processors).
I spaced the intervals out to every 10 minutes instead of 5 because it's so annoying, but that obviously causes me to lose more information whenever the program crashes on me, which is no fun... plus it's still incredibly annoying.
Would it be possible to make it the program doesn't include addresses, and postal codes in the 'places' box? I have places listed on my map that are out of place because they have postal codes and addresses.
I just upgraded to the PremiumPlus. cthode.myheritage.com.The Family Tree Builder has a new button Profile"New". If I press it, I see a page where the first name has 'unknown' and the correct last name. The person IS dead, and the name has been registered correctly in the application Family Tree Builder. After upload into the web, the first name still appears as unknown'.Both display language and data language is Danish. On the Web, I have chosen Danish, but the language is English under 'manage trees' (?) when screen dialogue is Danish. This problem only occurs on new registered persons.
Strange..Now the person appearsinFamily Tree Builderwith "UNKNOVNThode"fornewregistrations.Just ason the web. When I openthe unknownperson the names are correct. After deletingthe variousname fieldswithctrl xandinsertedthe fieldagainwithctrl v isthe nameOK.AfteruploadingtheWebis allOK.
Thank you for the message. Could you please check this FAQ, it should help you to solve the problem: http://www.myheritage.com/help/2008/10/why-do-i-see-unknown-individuals-in-my-tree-online-after-i-publish-from-family-tree-builder
Of course, I have seen FAQ BEFORE I write this report.None of the measures,as described, worked with me.So...I am of the opinion that the problem is an application problem, maybe database problem. It seems odd that if you delete all the names of a person, then pressingOK (close), and then open the person again, the name is not deleted.
Only when you start enrolling new content in the name fields, the names will be changed, and the UNKNOWN in the profile and on the web disappears. I did it by using Ctrl X and Ctrl v,and it worked ok.
Could it be possible in the next release of FTB to stop overwriting of the projects directory in Options > General > Projects Directory. ALL my data is saved to a dedicated hard drive (G) with the backup on a removable drive (H). I know you recommend saving projects on the C drive, BUT I DON'T want to do it that way. Every time there is an update to the software, I have to change the setting.
On occassions when I reboot my laptop, especially after an update to the software is made, I just want to load from the G drive, not the C drive as it gives me a message saying the particular project already has a project with the same name and to give it a new name which I don't have to do when loading from G. I hope that all makes sense!
SOOO could you PLEASE make that an option to NOT overwrite where the Projects Directory is kept.
The fixes in the software are released with new versions. There was no new version released for FTB 6.0, so the current version you will download will not include any fixed issues and bugs.
The next version should hopefully be released in the next couple of months.
I am not familiar with the exact details of your problem, but if you are eager to go back to the FTB 6.0 version, you can try installing it again. It is very rare that users that used FTB 6.0 had to go back to the previous version. Perhaps there was a problem with specific data structure of your project that has since changed and now it would be ok.
If you choose to try it again, you should make sure to backup your project, so whatever happens you will have a rollback version. This FAQ explains how to make a backup for your project:
