I am very new to this. I currently have a web page on My Heritage which I started to build family tree. I then downloaded Family Tree Builder and have been building my family tree. Can someone help me. I want to publish the family tree from Family Tree Builder into my existing Mr Heritage Web Site of which I already have premium membership.
When I publish it goes to new web site without premium membership
I want to create a chart for a person and I want to include brother and sisters of his ancestors. Mainly for the brothers of their grandparents. Is there any way to get this?
Of course, I know I could use the "all in one" graphic, but I have to many people in my tree and I don't want the chart to be messed. And anyway I don't like the way "all in one" chart aligns ancestors.
You can create a Descendants chart for this person's great grandparent, or if you prefer you can export a branch from your family project and create an All-in-Onn chart for this branch.
Please see the following helpful FAQ on how to export a branch from your family project:
We have a family member who converted to Islam and had their name changed for example to Addullah .Their children will of course be named like any other muslim ie Mohd bin ( son of) Abdullah or Rubiah bte (daughter of) Abdullah . I was wondering how to handle this in Family tree builder beyond the second generation . The string of successive fathers names will be very long . Ex WW bin XX bin YY bin Mohd bin Abdullah for 5 generations. There is no such notion as a surname so what to do ? Any suggestions ? Tks
I have consulted our chief genealogist regarding this issue, and he said that name formats are sometimes a matter of family tradition, but genealogically it is correct to only record the first generation. His recommendation for you is to go back only one generation, for example: Mohd bin Abdulla.
Each culture has it's own way to support names, and although currently we are unable to support all of them, we do our best to try. Therefore, please note that Family Tree Builder, after listing one family member's name as bin XX, it wil lbe the default name for his children as well. You will have to fix this manually according to your preference.
And reports PDF under Family Tree tap doesn't support Chinese either even when my tree is in Chinese. Can myHeritage fix that? I think the major problem with this software for Chinese is the last name (1st) and first name (2nd) display issue. Hope they can fix this one too.
I'd like that option as well though I do hope that it will be possible to use multiple languages for entering details. We have a very mixed family so we need to enter both Eastern (Chinese, Korean) and Latin names. So, if possible I'd like to enter the Latin version in one field and the original language one in another.
Hi Ming-Hua,
Thanks for your question. If you would like multiple languages for entering details on your family tree, what I would reccomend is to download our Family Tree Builder Program. Once downloaded you'll be able to choose a primary language and a secondary language. This means you may enter the Latin version in one field and a Korean name in the other field.
Best regards
Rafael
I am using the Family Tree Program and I love it so far. It supports so MANY languages. The only thing, a major thing, missing for me is that it does not support Chinese, a language that is spoken by the most people in the world! The online web site supports Chinese, but nothing is transferred into the charts. If you cannot present and print it in Chinese with the charts, it makes the Chinese web site less useful. I really hope the next version that support Chinese characters come out soon.
As Aviv from my team wrote in an older post in this thread, we are working on a Unicode version of the Family Tree Builder which will support Chinese. It should be released by the end of the year if all goes according to plan.
I'm new to MyHeritage.com and really appriciate what your team have done. There are many family tree features in this website that help me organize my abundant relatives. However, something is missing -- I18n is not fully supported. As soon as you release Unicode version, I promise to be the very first person who generate the tree chart.
Is there a place where you log the version number of the most recent FTB? If I use the tools, check for updates, it shows that my version is up to date, but when I check the forum a new version is often available and linked to in the reply to somebody elses post.
Today's check shows my version at 5209, but a forum post shows 5309 as available, dowloading from the link gives version 5306.
Every once in a while we release versions with minor fixes that don't affect most of our users. Therefore we choose not to notify all users and cause all of them to update their software when it's not really needed.
These versions are offered for new users and for users who experience specific problems that we know were fixed by the new version. If you download the current "most-updated" version you won't even notice any difference.
When we collect enough fixes and upgrades that we decide that they are relevant to a big portion of our users, we notify all our users and recommend to download the update.
The program is set up like an old era is rule, this is 2011.
For an example, ther is an opption to set the females kids last name, but not a males.
I did take my wifes last name when we married.
Put that option into the program even for males, would make it better and a part of 20th scentury...
Except that it still won't display the married name for the male, or at least I can't get it to. I have taken my husband's last name and I would like it to actually display that as my name, because that is what my name is.
Ther is very hard to set up those who has several merriages back in time.
For an example, a man M get akid with a Female F they divorce and M get 2 new kids with another female E, still those 3 kids are sisters and brothers. But the program will set the same mother to all kids. Next is that F remarrige with A get 2 kids divorce, and remarrige and get another 2 kids. F has now 5 kids with 3 diffrent dads, but it´s to hard to handle for the program so far. An update in that area would be greate, and it would be easy to do, just like it is, but let me choose who the father or mother is to a person. Just that Easy.
