Why are people getting so uptight about a Mac version? What are the worldwide statistics for PC & Mac users? I think I would be correct in saying that the percentages would be way in favour of PC's!! It appears to me, that the minority are trying to rule. I stand to be corrected (although I don't think this will happen).
Windoze actually has a shrinking percentage user base whilst Macs are still increasing market share. However because of large corporates use, statistics for home use are frequently not accurate.
I do agree that the PC base is larger overall.
However in this modern age it is NOT rocket science to produce a Windows, Mac and Linux version at the same time for no extra development cost. It's about using the right tools rather than wedding yourself to a very large dinosaur.
As an ex-Microsoft partner and consultant who now uses Windows, Linux and Mac so I can use/test software of all flavours but I prefer to use Mac.
Our Family Tree Builder software doesn't have a Mac version yet.
We've received many requests for this, so producing a Mac version is definitely in our plans. In the meantime, you can wait until we have a Mac version, or continue to grow your tree online.
A tree can be built online on MyHeritage.com, using a Mac. If you have a tree already and it has been published into your own family site on MyHeritage.com, we can, at your request, flip a switch so you'll be able to continue editing your tree online on your Mac, with a browser.
Please let me know if you'd like that. You can also import an existing tree into MyHeritage.com via import GEDCOM, and then continue editing it online on the Mac. Let me know if you need assistance with this.
1) Can you please "flip the switch" as you say so that I am able to edit my existing tree using the online editing tool. When I attempt to access editing preferences on my tree it just refers me to the Windows download link, which does me no good.
2) I see that these responses to this thread are about eight months old. Is there a line of sight yet on release of a Mac version of the software?
Sorry to be so rude, but that is really inaccaptable! I've been using family tree builder and myheritage for quite some time now and since I threw my old laptop out and got a new macbook I can't use it any more. Who doesn't provide a Mac-version for his programs, anyway? You are really the first site I see, where there is acutally no Mac-version available. And don't give me the "build your tree online" - thing. First of all, your online version is programmed in Flash - you should really change that - and secondly, I don't want to do it online because thirdly, the interface on family tree builder is way better and much more clearly arranged than the online version.
In the forum one can read that you are at least aware of the problem since 2007(!), when a gentleman from Brasil asked the very same question. Rhianna W. from your team answered, "No, I'm sorry, we don't have a MAC compatible version of FTB...yet. We've got a lot of requests, we'll be working on it soon." Soon? Is there any chance, you will provide Mac-users with a version any time soon? Say, this year (2012)? My renewal is approaching and frankly spoken, I will not renew my membership unless I can use family tree builder again.
I just upgraded to the PremiumPlus. cthode.myheritage.com.The Family Tree Builder has a new button Profile"New". If I press it, I see a page where the first name has 'unknown' and the correct last name. The person IS dead, and the name has been registered correctly in the application Family Tree Builder. After upload into the web, the first name still appears as unknown'.Both display language and data language is Danish. On the Web, I have chosen Danish, but the language is English under 'manage trees' (?) when screen dialogue is Danish. This problem only occurs on new registered persons.
Strange..Now the person appearsinFamily Tree Builderwith "UNKNOVNThode"fornewregistrations.Just ason the web. When I openthe unknownperson the names are correct. After deletingthe variousname fieldswithctrl xandinsertedthe fieldagainwithctrl v isthe nameOK.AfteruploadingtheWebis allOK.
Thank you for the message. Could you please check this FAQ, it should help you to solve the problem: http://www.myheritage.com/help/2008/10/why-do-i-see-unknown-individuals-in-my-tree-online-after-i-publish-from-family-tree-builder
Of course, I have seen FAQ BEFORE I write this report.None of the measures,as described, worked with me.So...I am of the opinion that the problem is an application problem, maybe database problem. It seems odd that if you delete all the names of a person, then pressingOK (close), and then open the person again, the name is not deleted.
Only when you start enrolling new content in the name fields, the names will be changed, and the UNKNOWN in the profile and on the web disappears. I did it by using Ctrl X and Ctrl v,and it worked ok.
Could it be possible in the next release of FTB to stop overwriting of the projects directory in Options > General > Projects Directory. ALL my data is saved to a dedicated hard drive (G) with the backup on a removable drive (H). I know you recommend saving projects on the C drive, BUT I DON'T want to do it that way. Every time there is an update to the software, I have to change the setting.
On occassions when I reboot my laptop, especially after an update to the software is made, I just want to load from the G drive, not the C drive as it gives me a message saying the particular project already has a project with the same name and to give it a new name which I don't have to do when loading from G. I hope that all makes sense!
SOOO could you PLEASE make that an option to NOT overwrite where the Projects Directory is kept.
The fixes in the software are released with new versions. There was no new version released for FTB 6.0, so the current version you will download will not include any fixed issues and bugs.
The next version should hopefully be released in the next couple of months.
I am not familiar with the exact details of your problem, but if you are eager to go back to the FTB 6.0 version, you can try installing it again. It is very rare that users that used FTB 6.0 had to go back to the previous version. Perhaps there was a problem with specific data structure of your project that has since changed and now it would be ok.
If you choose to try it again, you should make sure to backup your project, so whatever happens you will have a rollback version. This FAQ explains how to make a backup for your project:
