I have the same problem ('Siblings with same first name (#13)'). Heaps of them, Johnny died as an infant so they call the next boy Johnny.
And 'Inconsistent place name spelling #21.' Hasn't happened much with me, but, in Victoria, Australia, we have Carlton and Charlton. BOTH valid place names.
And names such as my own; I am known by the short version of my second given name and to indicate this have entered my name as Athol Geoffrey "Geoff" Stewart. I have maybe fifty others entered the same way, a lot have come to me that way through Smart Matches.
FBT warns of an 'Alias in first name' and wants me to move it to a section called 'Alias'. These names are not an Alias, which in English is a name only used by CRIMINALS so that police will not know their real name. This name could go in a box called 'best known as' or something like that, and should show with the name everywhere, not be buried out of sight in the records like entries under 'Name' in the Main page of a person's card.
So there are important improvements to be made to what is a fantastic and helpful tool.
I have posted this before but I guess in the wrong forum. I like the software but can't use it properly and upgrade to the paid for version until I resolve this issue.
I have a GEDCOM from a program where I have used dd/mm/yyyy format. How do I set up the software to recognise this format and not import it incorrectly assuming mm/dd/yyyy? MyHeritage reads my birthday (written as 1.4.1959 in the GEDCOM file) as 4th January 1959 rather than the correct 1st April 1959. By contrast my relation whose birthday is written 23.10.1850 is translated correctly as 23rd October 1850, I guess as there aren't 23 months. I would hope that there is somewhere in the program to deal with ambiguous dates as there is, for example, in Roots Web, but if there isn't perhaps someone could tell me that so I can stop looking!
You CAN change the settings. In Tools > Options goto Dates > Use standard calendar, check the options box, then goto standard calendar, Day/Month/Year format then enter %d% %m% %y% then click OK. All dates should now be in UK (& Australian) format.

If you do that it works fine when inputting data directly into the program; however, it you import a GEDCOM it ignores the settings and assumes mm/dd/yyyy. I have just had a response from the My Heritage team:
Hi Paul,
Thanks for you email.
Unfortunately, we don't support date formats like what you're after.
Best regards,
Yoav

I have to say that is not good for something that aims to be used internationally.
It is my understanding that mm/dd/yyyy is the default myheritage standard and that there is no way to change that. I do find it interesting that it is able to correctly figure out that since there aren't 23 months, it must be talking about the 23rd day. I honestly would have expected that it wouldn't know what to do with that, and just given you a bunch of question marks.
Thabks for the answer. That's a pretty bad flaw in the program that some simple code could correct. Unfortunately I'll have to purchase another program that isn't as good but doesn't have this killer barrier for me.
Hi Paul. It seems as if you have been asking questions and getting pretty poor response.
First of all Family Tree Builder is designed for world-wide usage even by those that put their dates backwards.
Have you checked the country settings on your computer you are using?
Have you checked the Date format on the computer you are using?
Ensure these are correct for your requirements of Family Tree Builder and the settings match what you expect Family Tree Builder to do.
If you go to Tools, Options and Dates in Family Tree Builder you will see numerous options for the date format.
Set this before importing the file.
Use The Standard Calendar and the following format %d% %m% %y%
If the file you imported is still giving you errors on the dates, try using the French Revolution Calendar and the following format %m% %d% %y%Then once you have imported your file swap back to the Standard Calendar and the following format %d% %m% %y%

Created:14/01/2012 01:29:18I tried this on the forums without response. When you import a GEDCOM file in international date format dd/mm/yyyy it interpretets as mm/dd/yyyy and there is no way to change this. Hence I can'tuse the otherwise good program. Guys, that's a pretty poor flaw.
I don't seem to be able to find a way in Family Tree Builder to get 2 family members to update the family tree at once.
Is there a way to do concurrent updates?
I don't want to have to do my updates then publish them or import them via GEDCOM to the family web site, then signal to my brother that he can work on it via exporting the GEDCOM or re downloading the family tree off of the family web site.
Need to be able to work on the family tree together in parallel rather than serially... Any ideas?
Please note that the Family Tree Builder was created to be used only by one administrator from one computer. This, because when you create a family tree in Family Tree Builder and publish it to your family site, you cannot edit the tree online. If the tree was built in the Family Tree Builder, each time you would like to make changes to your tree online, it is necessary to edit your tree in Family Tree Builder and then re-publish your family tree to your family site.
If you want to persons to be able to edit the tree from two different locations, I recommend you to use the online version of the system. If you want, from my end I can change the source of your tree from the Family Tree Builder to the Family Site online.
The registration login form the application does not work on Windows 7 Pro. I had to login to the website and then the application allowed me to use it. The first 2 help screens that came up after the installation are too small. Half of the instructions are hidden. I have the premium version of FTB 5 and will not be moving to version 6 until the bugs are addressed. I have too many hours invested to risk a bad upgrade. Is this why version 6 is discounted by 40% ?
When I delete an entry what is left is UNKNOWN. When I try yo delete UNKNOWN nothing happens so I am left with lots of UNKNOWNS. Can I get some help to resolve please
In order to delete a person in your online tree, they can't have connections for both ancestors and descendants. Either they have to have no ancestors or no descendants.
If they have both, the tree will require a placeholder for the person in order to keep the people in the tree connected. If you deleted that person in between you would end up with two disconnected branches in the tree.
