Changes "behind the wall" -- fair enough. Maybe you have to use it to notice the difference. But are the many features requested by users of V5 and V6 incorporated? No mention of these in the feature list that I saw.
I realize that you serve an international community; Asian languages and Unicodeare important to a portion of your customer base. But I can't consider these things new in terms of functionality. Doing the same old things in a new language? Pfft.
RecordMatching I CAN judge; in V6 "me not found no one right match" either. Waste of time. Waste of money.
No indication that the "new" SuperSearch will be any better. I gave it a try and all it found were a dozen trees that clearly derived from my tree, along with a few historical records that MIGHT conceiveably be relevant, except that I would have to pay for a data subscription to even see if they're the right person. And I refuse to buy something that I can't see on the off chance that it might possibly be of value.
HINT: My subscription to ancestry.com gives me complete access to all those records without having to pay extra. The competition offers a better product at a better price. Why should I buy yours?
Link for download - you're right, it's at the bottom of the web page. I just expected it to say "New Version 7.0" instead of what it always said. Still, I should have paid attention to the little "NEW" flag.
Update wizard -- "I reported it many times, nothing happened". How odd, users have had the same experience, we report a problem or concern, we suggest a needed feature -- nothing happens. We can wait months or years without a response.
And, Tomas, nothing is exactly what happened when I tried to download V7.0. Well, not quite nothing. I got an error message that said "C:\DOCUME~1\Tom\LOCALS~1\Temp\grPS3RNB.exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator."
So I'll go back to my earlier comment: an upgrade should not require you to mess with registry entries, .dll files, OR server administrators!
It looks to me like the release was a bit premature and I'll try again -- maybe in a month or two, after MyHeritage has time to get it working right. And SURELY MyHeritage is going to continue to support V6.0x!
You have right in more things. But I keep in mind, all things must be solved step by step.
What could be the mainly asked feature, while working with FTB? I think, from forums, that can be just possibility of bidir synchro. In other words, collaboration with remote family member. Technically, giving him rights to edit/service his own part of tree on web, while I continue working in FTB globally. This feature is starting in FTB7, in first version, meantime only for owners. Good would be possibility, adding edit permissions from one person in tree, and subsequently to depended persons, to his branch only.
I thing, starting this is the main feature of v7. All others are under it.
About data subscription: here you have right about 50%. My idea is, that could be more levels of membership:
Basic (free, as is),
BasicPlus (low-price, 750 persons, one-shot try-quota of data credits, unblocked SmartMatched sites communication),
Premium (as is, but with limited quota of data credits added yearly-cumulative)
PremiumPlus (as is, with activated backup and unlimited data access - really all features activated, incl. future)
About problematic download: have you tried direct download-run, or download-save-manualrun? Try surely the second way, eventually with more browsers/downloaders, and before it clear temporary files and caches. Maybe is problem in any web cache on the way to you, or overload the main download cluster of MH. The symptom you described appears as basical internet problem while downloading, unrelated to FTB. Try alternative link:
(The build 7099 is the only official and currently supported. If you can test the very latest technical build, try sequently change the both numbers in link to 7100, 7101,... Do not forget for prior backups!)
Before running install, try restart of computer.
Does anyone know if there is a way to change the default settings for printing of a book (or other) report?
It appears to be printing using Times New Roman (or similar) font size 10 (or less)
As it saves as PDF file and i have not got the PDF writer software or a paid account, it cannot be done after the report has been created.
My mother finds it extremelyu difficult to read and i would have thought that with all the diversity and equality rules and regs that there would be an option to amend settings to a more readable format such as the recommended Ariel 12 or larger.
I also have family members who require various different standards such as paper & font color and so on. any assistance would be appreciated.
Thank you for writing and we appreciate your patience regarding this matter.
I understand that you want to further customize your chart, in order to do that you can specify additional settings by creating a chart and then choosing the "Advanced customization settings". There you will have the option to change the font size.
As for the paper color - you can change the background color for the chart in these settings as well.
Please, let me know if this is what you have been looking for.
You can also change these settings by making a chart in the family tree builder software, and above the display of the chart you will have a little button of "Options" - there you will have all the options as well.
I understand backgrounds etc can be changed in Charts but it is the 'Reports' section i am looking at.
Basically the default font setting etc does not match the recommended ODI (Office for Disability Issues) font size or type (they recommend Ariel-or other serif sans with size 14). I printed a book report for my mother & wish to do so also for other family members however my mother is struggling as your default font int he book report appears to be Times New Roman size 10. As your book and other reports automatically default to PDF export format there is no whay to edit post publishing.
My question is how do i change the defaulf font, size & colour prior to producing a book (or other) report. It is not in Options and reports do not ahve advanced options post publishing.
Thank you for writing back and I'm so sorry for the confusion.
Unfortunately you can't change the font settings to produce a report with a bigger font prior to the creation of it. However for some reports you are able to change it after it is created by clicking on the little "Options" button when creating them in the Family Tree Builder.
As for the family book report - this is one report that you will not be able to change the font for, or any other settings in that matter. However, you could try to find online a converter from pdf to doc which will allow you to open the document in Microsoft Word and change the font so it will fit the recommended ODI font size.
I added this as a suggestion for our developers and they should look into that - however it might prove to be a little bit difficult as the book report function is third-party application that was created by Nigel Buffton, and he intended the reports to be exported as pdf.
So this may take awhile and perhaps would not be released on our next version.
I have subscribed to the monthly backup plan. My Tree has 37,000 individuals on it, and my project has almost 600 members.
I have two trees - one with only 3 persons, but this is a web tree - that allows me to back up all photos and videos uploaded by members. The really big tree is a tree that is not a web tree (ie cannot be edited from the Web) but is managed from a local machine with Win XP SP3, using FTB 6.0.
For the last 6-8 months (probably more) the second tree is with thousands of photos and tens of thousands of individuals, and probably over a hundred thousand relationships and dates, is not getting backed up. MyHeritage Technical Support simply tell us that large files cannot be backed up - then what is the purpose of paying every month for a backup on Amazon.com's servers, we wonder. So we are reliant only on our own backups.
I have a large, 37,000 person tree with probably 2,000 photographs. I cannot publish only the changes made, so I have to upload the entire tree every time I want to update the Tree on the Web.
For the last 6 months, I have been unable to complete the publishing process - it freezes when the progress bar reaches 73%. I use Win XP, SP3 with FTB 6.0 I have found that the data uploads, but not the pics - and I cannot reliably predict which photos publish and which don't.
Help will be appreciated as MyHeritage technical support has been unable to provide a solution for over 3 months, and are now telling me to wait for FTB 7.0
You are absolutely right. There is a problem with the MyHeritage server according to the support team. I have tried to upload since Dec 16:th 2012 without sucess. The team is working with the problem but have not succeeded so far. I have sent my tree to the team and they have NOT been able to publish the tree, it stops at 73%. The data files upload Ok but NOT the photos. My suggestion is that you open a Service Ticket so we can push the team from several angles.
I'm taking care of both of you. I've received Jack's package and project and I should be able to investigate the issue further. I've already sent both of you detailed emails about this issue and hopefully we will be able to find the source of the problem soon.
Yes I have heard that they are working with 7.0 and that the program, in the future, will only upload changes in the tree on you PC and not the whole tree and photos every time. I have 140 000 people in my tree and 4 000 photos and it takes me about 3 hrs to upload and I have a 10MB fast line.
Right now it takes me 2-3 minutes just to add/update/correct a record in my tree on my desktoip (very fast PC) so I hope they will fix that too.
[Ticket#2012092710003211] Re: 70% message "unexpected server error"
I upgraded to the Premium Plus and I still cannot publish online (Since August 03rd last year) and I cannot view/get smart matches. And when I go to Smart Matches in the software programme it says there are some but doesn't show them?
I have been extremely patient and I expect to be refunded the money since August as i haven't been able to use the functions of the upgraded plan.
After numerous emails backwards and forwards I have still heard nothing - the last I have is :
I am using FTB to build my family tree, and I have come across a problem.
When I display the family as a tree with basic information (birth-death, marriage), some members of the family don't have a date of death listed, even though there is one in their record: the "Deceased" box is ticked, there is a valid date and place of death listed.
It's only happening on a few people (say, about 10 out of 130 people in the tree), but it's enough to make it annoying.
Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: Something weird is going on. I have a relative who died in August 2001. His date of death doesn't appear on the Descendant chart (or any other chart). If I change the year to 2002 or 2000, the date of death displays, but if I change it back to 2001, it doesn't display anymore.
I'm fairly sure that there was an August in 2001 - I'd remember if there wasn't, wouldn't I?
Just a thought, Have you checked the date format in the settings.
If the setting is set to mm dd yyyy instead of dd mm yyyy or vice versa (cant remember the difference UK/US date format). If you use UK format when you type it in but have the date set as US date format it will not show for those persons born later than the 12th of each month. Maybe this only apply if just numbers are entered.
No, it's not the date format, because for most people in chart I only have a month and year.
I think it's a font formatting problem, because if I use a narrow font in a small size, then the dates display correctly - it's as if the size of the text box being used for the dates isn't being calculated correctly to allow for all of the text.
I'm calling this a bug, and waiting for v7 to appear over the horizon.
I was trying to folllow the instructions in http://www.myheritage.com/help/en/2010/06/how-do-i-use-the-online-connect-remove-connection-feature/ but I don't see the menu with connect pop up when I click on plus.
I am trying to correct a mistake where 2 brothers show up as half brothers
Thank you for writing to us, and sorry for the confusion. In the new version of the tree, you will see the connect option by doing the following: Click on the person's card, choose more, and there you will see the option.
I recently installed FTB on a new computer and each time I turn the program on it's reverted back to the default settings. Why do you include options to change the colours, decide where I want the program to save my projects etc if you're just going to force me to revert to the default settings as soon as I turn off the program??? Is anyone even working on this bug??? This problem seems to have been occuring for years?
I have had the same problem, and I submitted a request sometime ago to correct this! As yet there has been no satisfacttory reply! I have the problem in Options--> General--> Projects Directory where I have a dedicated hard drive, and every time my laptop runs an automatic update (it's on 24/7) I have to change the location. I DO NOT & WILL NOT use the default directory as it causes all sorts of problems!
Also one for the developers: Could you please add another parameter in the general settings (maybe between "Projects Directory" & "When program starts") for a Backup Directory. I have a dedicated drive for that as well and as above I DO NOT & WILL NOT use the default directory!
