I have been having problems with the consistency checker. The checker has been creating massive errors all across my family tree. For example...I have been carefully double checking that married couples are correctly entered. During the following startup in family tree, the consistency checker states that it found many inconsistencies and has corrected them. I then found that the checker has switched married couples from even across widely separate branches and actually put together same sex married partners who may never have lived at the same time!
I then have had to printout new family charts...go down the branches and change the correct partners back together. This problem is not isolated but has happened about every other entry session.
Any idea why the checker would do such obvious errors?
I have apparently found the 'fix' to my 'scrambling' problem. Family Tree Builder cannot handle more than one identical name even tho' the people may be on separate branches! Quite a few of my ancestors have the same name or there is no information about middle name etc.
After about the 20th time, that FTB scrambled people, I noticed that more than half of the branches being scrambled had names that were identical. For example, four people with identical names had perfectly correct branches but after saving, shutting down and then reopening FTB, the consistency checker would state that it had found problems in the Tree and had corrected them, changing random spouses, families, etc. Even on branches which did not contain identical name. So I after correcting the mistakes again, I went through the Tree and renamed the identical names, such as renaming John Smith as John Jack Smith, etc. After adding changes to each identical name, I shut down. When FTB came back on line...the branches which had had identical names were now preserved.
So I always check to see if another person has the identical name anywhere in FTB, I then slightly change the new entry, so the new name does not occur anywhere else in FTB.
I don't know it's the program or just my computer; but lately I've been having a problem with smart matches on FTB. Whenever I click on the smart match icon for a person, it comes up with no smart matches. I know there were smart matches, hence the icon. I go back and have to re-enter the person's name, then the smart matches will reappear. I have to do that for every smart match; it's quite annoying.
The reason you see the Smart Match indicator but when you go to check the matches there are none, is due to a lag in processing Smart Matches.
What happens is that when you type the information into your tree, we check to see if there are matches "ad-hoc" or "on the fly".
If there is a match, the green icon appears to indicate we've found a preliminary match.
The actual matches usually take a few days to be processed, so if you go to check your matches right away you won't see any, but ideally you should get matches within 2-3 days , depending on the size of the tree.
I am using FTB 6 on a Windows XP Pro machine, and the FTB program sometimes causes my entire computer to freeze. This problem occurred with FTB 5 as well; since upgrading to version 6 the problem has lessened considerably but it still occurs sometimes.
There doesn't seem to be a specific action that causes the freeze, but it happens often when bringing FTB to the foreground after using another program on the taskbar. I frequently switch back and forth between Firefox, Windows Explorer, FTB and other programs as I work. It has even happened when bringing FTB to the foreground after a period of computer inactivity. For example, yesterday I was using Firefox in the foreground, with FTB and other programs also running, then left the computer to do something else in my house. I returned after about 20 minutes, and immediately upon bringing FTB to the foreground the entire computer froze. (I do not use a screensaver.)
The freeze is complete - no mouse movement, hard drive activity or anything else. I must physically reset the computer and allow it to reboot.
Thanks, I will give chkdsk a try, although if it's not a FTB problem it's pretty odd that it only happens when using FTB. It has never frozen this way under any circumstances other than running FTB as the active foreground application. Not even once.
Ran chkdsk - all it found was some free space marked as allocated (which it corrected), and it corrected errors in the uppercase file. Even so, I had no errors after some minor use so I thought maybe it was fixed, but FTB froze up my machine again today. Standard Windows firewall, Avast antivirus, Windows XP Pro (32 bit), 4GB RAM on a Core2Quad desktop machine @ 2.4GHz (not a laptop). There are about 560 people in this project, in directory My Documents\MyHeritage\ (I think that's the default, isn't it?)
I have SP3 , totally updated. No other updates show up through MS update and it's a bog standard install on a Dell Vostro 410 so there's very little else in the way of drivers but I will check. I already did #1 - when I reinstalled FTB I moved to a newer version; the freezes lessened considerably but did not go away. I will look into the rest, thanks!
I have downloaded FTB_5634 today (20 Feb 2012) and installed it on Windows 7 professional 32-bit. When I click the 'MyHeritage FTB' icon to launch the software, the cursor changes to indicate activity but this ceases after about 2-3 seconds and nothing is displayed - not even an error message. How can I get this software to correctly start?
Try to deaktivate any security software (antivirus and firewall) and run installation as administrator. Right click on the FTB install icon and select run as administrator.
I need to use family tree builder in persian language . I found in language folder of application the persian but I don't know why I can not use persian language in program.? Is Any body can help me ?
I'm having an issue while using Merge function - Step by Step. The dialogue box is displayed, however not all of the data fields that should be able to be edited can be edited due to incorrect sizing of the dialogue box.
The problem is local to my PC because I don't see this issue when I checked using an alternate PC. I have rebooted the problem PC and I have even upgraded FTB from ver 5.0 to ver 6.0 wich did not resolve this problem.
I don't recall making any changes to my PC's settings, either inside or outside of FTB that could explain why only this dialouge box is not displaying correctly. All of FTB's other dialouges are displaying corectly.
Appreciate a reply if someone else has had this issue and knows what they did to fix it. Thanks.
I am having the same issue. It is not a problem of type size. This problem began when I upgraded to version 6, and I sent in the error a while back hoping for an update to fix this error.
The window itself is not the correct size (I know this from the previous version of using the program v5), and therefore you can't see the comparative information from the other tree when you are doing the step-by-step compare. Thus, this important feature is not available to me to use.The window size specified in the software call is either specified incorrectly or called incorrectly.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted Windows and that does not make the problem go away. Please get to the bottom of the software bug and issue an update soon.
