Hi, I'm new to using Family Tree Builder and I had a question about how to add illegitimate children. In both cases the names of the fathers are known but when I add them as the children's father it automatically adds the mother as the father's spouse. How do I add two parents to a child but show that they were never married?
edit the relationship STATUS of the parents from DEFAU:LT= Married-- change to Partners or OTHER -- there are options from which you can select!
Thanks, I did change him to other but the man is still showing up as a relation through marriage to others in the family tree (e.g. my cousin's father is showing as my uncle despite not having married my aunt).
I have been a Heritage member for some time and was looking for a progam for my mac. I want to be able to Download my online heritage tree info to my home Mac. I recieved theBlack friday dealoffer of $24.00 and was interested. After searching onlie reviews of thsi software it seems to be pretty bad! Any views here??
Hi! I've just imported a GEDCOM file, and have found that 'unknown' spouses are appearing at random places in charts; they don't show up in the tree entry for the people they're attached to, or their list of spouses, so I can't see how to delete them. Any suggestions for how to get rid of them?
In the last hour when I tried to sync or connect from FTB to my family site (at http://www.myheritage.com/site-240385321/site ) I get a message indicating that there is no family site and asking if I want to set one up.
Are other people seeing this, too? Is this a temporary glitch? Is there something I need to do to fix this?
Since the first release of version 7 there have been a number of updates to this particular version due to a few little problems. Like most softwares they are not fail safe as we all would like them to be and are suseptable to glitches from time to time.
You are more than welcome to log into your online family site and scroll to the bottom of the home page and click on Family Tree Builder from the download section. This iwll let you download and install the latest version of the software.
I would advise however first making a backup of your database to your computer so that you have a reliable source of information should anything go wrong with your new FTB version.
Also please be assured that if you do run into any problems then you are only an email away from getting the support you require for any of the problems you may come across and our dedicated team will be on hand to help you the need arise.
There are a couple of bugs worth mentioning that I have noticed and been annoyed by:
PC application running on win7 x64
1. Large bitmaps > 10mb seem to make FTB think the database is massive and can inflate the sync size to 100's of mb over what it is causing upload to fail everytime. Solution I did when I found out (eventually) what it was is to convert the bmp to jpg. Error is in however FTB evaluated the bmp filesize for transfer.
I kept getting error 94 unspecified error (I think, since the log has overwritten)
2. Sync (Publishing) > Sync Settings > Advanced Sync Settings > Select Photos to Upload (Select Photos radio button) does not work in win 7 x64 in thumbnail view without clicking the radio button for table view then back to thumbnail.
When adding records if not all data is copied by pressing >> buttons the I sometimes get "%1 field" or "%name" cannot be copied and the import fails.
What I would like to see as an improvement is for census records to allow import of the census scanned document as an image but marked as a document and applied to every person in the import.
I have reported this and got the answer that it is due to the new handling where the oldest posts are removed and it will solve it self with time. I could not accept that answer since it is only this forum that is handled this way. The guy that answered me should send it futhur... That was for a couple of days ago.
Seems that seroius bugs that should be easy to fix still must go thru some strange que that will take weeks to get thru.
I do not need to go into how we work here at MyHeritage as this is non of your concern. However, we at support do not simply "Fob Off" users with a simple alert to make you feel as if everything is being taken care of.
When the support department notifies you that the matter has been forwarded to the relevant department, then it has. We are not computer programmers here in the support department thus we forward genuine problems that are out of our control to the people that have studied computer programming and know how to rectify the situation.
Problems however are handled by priority and sometimes there are more pressing issues that have a more drastic effect on the users experience that are taken care of first and foremost.
Yes the forum has gone through a change and like most things in the Pc world they dont always go according to plan and even the programmers/developers do not think of everything and get caught with glitches.
With regards to account information as I have many times mentioned. These forum posts are not handled publically as discussion of a users private account details in the public forum is not allowed and is a breach of privacy.
Users that enter into contracts (subscriptions), are notified of every transaction that they make and will or will not continue to make just like any reputable business would do. We are not to blame for the lack of responsibility on a users behalf when they do not read the emails that they are sent and then the following year wonder why they have been charged. However should there be a dispute then we take care of it in a professional manner and more often than not it is resolved within an email or two.
Hoping this has helped shed a little light on the topic for you.
As a fellow Australian (Cairns FNQ) I understand what you mean and there is no need to go into detail.
I also understand the current problem that is happening in the forum posts and again this is out of my hands at the moment and the developers are working on this. They need to re-write algorithms test and re-test before they rectify the situation. This may take a little time as they are also handling as previously mentioned more pressing issues along side this issue.
This issue is also effecting me so please do not feel alienated by this situation. We will get this sorted out and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.
This is happening due to the fact that you are using the same photo for different people which is creating duplicate copies of the photo. Once you enter a new person into the tree and then decide to assign a photo to them , then should the photo be a personal one of that specific person the photo would then be individual.
You have chosen to use the same photo to represent a certain charactoristic within your tree which is very nice however the side effect is duplications of the photo as they all become the persons personal profile photo.
I hope this has assisted with answering your question.
Dean, that situation with multiple copies of a photo is in my photos directory too. There are typically three copies of each photo attached to a particular individual, though often six. And the six are NOT a headstone used for two individuals.
The triple photos wil be listed as, for example, P226_AUX_192_203, P226_AUX_96_128 and P226_AUX_192_256. A set of six has the labels P144_602_602, P144_AUX_123_128, P144_AUX_256_256, P145_442_590, P145_AUX_96_128 and P145_AUX_192_256. In that specific example, the six images are of duplicates for a photo of one single individual and as far as I can tell that photo is only once in my DB. The first file is 37kb or 40 kb, the two AUX files smaller at around 7kb and 22 kb.
My Photos directory contains 1,123 files and occupies 155 Mb on my hard drive. Those numbers would seem to be greater than what they should be.
This is NOT happening "due to the fact that you are using the same photo for different people which is creating duplicate copies of the photo." I have confirmed that a single photo used for a single individual appears three or as many as six times in the photos directory.
Please answer the question: why does the software create all these duplicate images?
PS I just noticed that my number of posts is 1. I used to have several hundred. Did you clear out previous forum posts?
Let me start by reassuring you that our development team are working on the mixed up forum problem amongst many other things that keep the family site and software running as smoothly as possible on a daily basis.
Should you have an problem that requires technical assistance, then I would advise scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on the 'Help' section. Once here then clcick on "Contact Form" to contact the support Team. Explain in as much detail as you can the problem you are facing. Once of our friendly representatives will be in contact with you at the first available moment to assist you with the problem.
Once again, the forum posted a private message in answer to a public question, which means that nobody else sees the answer.
No personal information was involved, only some technical information, so I'll summarize the response without going into detail:
"When you import pictures into your FTB, the software analyzes the pictures and creates - upon need - several resized versions of it. The smaller versions are being used for the display of the picture in the FTB in different places: thumbnails in the tree display, the large original version the Photos section of FTB and a preview mode, among others."
The software automatically names each resized image with a code that includes image number, image size, and other information that is of little concern or interest to the user.... including me!
