I have accoiunt family web site and also I had diwnloaded FTB v.7. For more than few months I cannot sync with website - so, updated file is available only on my PC. Error massage shows that my herritagew pages are busy.
I just installed Family Tree Builder 7.0 on my PC and after reading that Sync would then not let other family members edit the family tree online, I specifically select not to Synch but it still disabled the Add and Edit buttons on the family tree online. We currently have 2,200 members who have been updating the online family tree.
If myheritage.com team memebrs could please help me to put it back the way it was as I have been bombarded by all those our family members who are unable to update the online family tree.
Please myheritage.com >> do not release such a halfcooked applicatiuon that creates major such major problems.
I'm having a similar issue back on the 6.0 version and now, without any sync command, using the 7.0 version. I have to keep my tree on the online version to offer the possibility to other members to interact with it. However I have the habit to export a Gedcom file from it to check for errors using FTB. Imediatly after importing the GEDCOM file to FTB, using a new Project name or not, the FTB overwrites my online tree, locking the tree for another members to edit it. I've been correcting it importing the GEDCOM back to the site as a new tree and deleting the locked one, but this unlink all members to the tree and to their photos and I have to expend hours to fix it. So, since for now Syncing is useless to online tree users, MyHeritage would have to offer to its users the possibility to use FTB as an offline tool as well.
Sorry for the bad experience Rodolfo, we informed our developers of these two complaints and we are planning to open up access for other members to use the family tree as-well. This would blur up the difference between the Family Tree Builder tree type and a normal GEDCOM/WEB tree.
I've contacted you via email so we could see if there's any other trees that we can sort with you.
Same problem with my tree. I used FTB 7.0 to check my GEDCOM file for errors and I am quite sure I selected NOT TO SYNC with the online tree. Still I have lost the possibility to edit the online tree and so have all my other admin members.
I have emailed the MHT team 6 days ago to help and fix this but had no reply so far.
I think that the FTB 7.0 is synching the data with the online tree, regardless of the setting causing the EDIT buttons to disappear.
I noticed that the FTB 7.0 is quite unstable and crashing a lots (Win7 Pro, 32Bit, SP1) and there are some other "design/layout" bugs as well. I agree with Mahmood that the FTB 7.0 should have been tested more, specially on major features like the sync.
Well I installed 7.0. Of course, I had to do so three times before it took. It did get rid of the error message concerning a corrupted photo by letting me know which photo was incompatable, so I deleted that photo and then saved the changes...suddenly, no more error message everytime I exited My Heritage. However, I have now lost all of the thousands of previously confirmed smart matches. It's funny, I have two trees on my site, mine and my wife's. My smartmatches dissappeared, but her's didn't??? I hope this doesn't mean I will have to re-confirm thousands of smart matches previously confirmed over the past couple of years!
Ooooooooops!!! I spoke too soon. I just signed off and the same old error message popped back up on my desktop, except the message behind it now shows that 7.0 was sinced sucessfully to The Herndon Tree, but not to The Thiele Tree. I guess my wife's tree is still in version 6???? How can this be if the two trees are on the same site??? Somebody at MH needs to help get these things cleared up.....NOW!!!
Yes, and I replied to you on regular email, as well, but I think everyone should know what happened. I now have 15,629 smart matches to REconfirm, over two years' work, gone! I'm very disappointed that a new version was released before all the bug were worked out. It will take me months to get back to the point I was already at and can begin regular research and continue to add to my tree again. I just am not sure I even care to continue at this point.
I thought that the default setting for the projects directory was going to have an option for user default setting???????
(C:/-->options -->General -->Projects Directory -->[user defined]) I REFUSE TO USE THE DEFAULT SETTING.Is it tooooo hard for the developers to make this change, or don't they know how to!!!!???? I was informed in a previous post I made on this subject that it would be changed. Why hasn't it been done?
I am sick and tired of having to change the default location every time I open FTB, as I don't use your default as I have ALL my projects on a dedicated external drive. Also I won't use the default location for backups. I have a USB for backups. That way they are independent of the main PC.
Can someone at MH please advise me if - no wait - when it can be done.
If you change the project's directory once it should be saved.
If you experience the project's directory resetting back to the previous default settings then please notify us and we will try to investigate it further.
As for the default location for backups - the backups are usually saved in the same directory as the projects directory. So then if you change the projects directory and save the project the changes should be reflected on the future backups as well.
No luck. I changed the project directory location, then exited FTB, reloaded and it is back to the default setting!
Over to you for a resolution.
One other suggestion I made sometime ago which appears as though has not been done. In Tools --> Options --> Names --> Empty first name (also Empty last name & Empty full name) there are options for Unknown, ?, -, ___. I asked earlier if Not Known could be added for First Name, NOT KNOWN added for Last name. I ask this because I have my own Web Site and the program I use to generate the names with doesn't recognise Unknown, it shows a ? in the generated names, whereas Not known shows as Not Known.
Can someone from MyHeritage please verify my understanding of the Version 7.0 release notes. I currently have other family members editing my online tree on MyHeritage.com. Should I not install Version 7.0 and sync with my online tree at this time? If I understand the release notes (see specific quote below), after synchronizing, only I -- the creator/owner -- will be able to update the tree.
Quoting from the release notes: "Currently, editing a synchronized family tree online or via mobile is restricted only to the family tree's creator. As the site creator, you'll be able to share your family site with others, but only you can make changes. We'll soon be adding a permission system that will allow you to grant other family members the ability to edit the synced tree too, if you like collaborating with other relatives on enhancing the tree."
I'm not a crew member of MyHeritage, but I can tell you that to sync your online tree using current FTB 7 will produce almost the same result as publishing a FTB Project using FTB 6: a family tree where editing will be restricted only to the family tree's creator.
In addition to your post, I would like to ask: When exactly MyHeritage will be adding a permission system that will allow me to grant other family members the ability to edit the online synced tree too?
I also would like to know when the permissions system will go into effect. The whole syncing featuring is almost useless without that ability (if only one person can edit the tree then how is that any different from only using FTB?). Hopefully it won't take as long as it takes the MyHeritage team to respond to these questions.
I get messages saying there are updates and sometimes one says there's been an update but I cannot figure out how to see just what's new in the newly updated tree. The cousin who posted it suggested I download the Family Tree Builder (which I did) and then download the tree he's posted so that I can then sort the names list by "recently updated" . I can't figure out how to download his tree so I can view recently updated files. (Do I even need to download his tree? Is there a way for me to simply view recent updates from the tree he has posted on line?)
