Hi I downloaded the free family tree builder to my computer, but when I go to open it, it will not open, can someone tell me what I am doing wrong please, does it only open when I come into myheritage, or can I just open it, while not connected to the internet.
I am using the last version of v6, and there is no problem with it unlike V7. I'm in Australia, so that is not a problem. I have V6 installed on a laptop with a dedicated HDD and a memory stick for backup. I have installed V7 on PC, but have not checked it out yet. I don't "sink" to the online tree as I have my own website so therefore I DON'T NEED to publish to online version, besides I'm using the free version and have 12 different trees ranging from about 200 people to 3500. I am only using FTB as my database, because I generate my GEDCOM file into a format to upload to my website. It appears you may have a problem with your computer.
I enter information on people and when I click "OK" it disappears! The name stays but I lose the dates and places and any notes I entered on that person. Why is it doing that? I upgraded to the new version and the program has been doing it quite a bit since then.
Daniel D. has assured me that "almost every member that complained eventually got his information back" but it is apparently necessary for the support team to work one-on-one with each complaint. So please email your issue to email@example.com.

yes, I lose the notes also. I can try several different times and when I click ok just the name stays and no information. So I have to write down notes on people and set them aside so I can go back when then this gets fixed and put it in later. It is all the time now. Like every day. You also?
Yes, all the time, but I did find out something that makes me a little happier and that is although notes I added before the upgrade do not appear they are still there. I found that out by doing a custom report showing notes.
I have just stopped working on my tree completely until it all gets fixed.
I'd love to be able to delete some names but theres no option to delete I went wrong 161 names in to 182 couldn't work out how to delete that section so closed without saving and went back to 72 names will have to start from there again someday
When you download and install Family Tree Builder for the first time, you will be asked to register the program.
If you already have an account at MyHeritage.com, you can use your registered MyHeritage.com email address and password to log in. This will allow you to publish your family tree to family sites you’ve already created on MyHeritage.com.
Also, if you are a Premium or PremiumPlus customer, registering Family Tree Builder with your MyHeritage registered email will allow you immediate access to the Premium features in Family Tree Builder, such as SmartMatch Merge and SmartResearch.
So what happens if you already have an account at MyHeritage.com, but you registered Family Tree Builder with a different email address by mistake?
Simply go to Publishing > My Sites. Here you can use the “Log in as a different member” link to enter a different email address and password or just change your password.
“Log in as a different member” can also be found in the Publishing > Publishing settings menu in Family Tree Builder.
Bugs I've found so far ... and the first one is a biggie:
Automatic backup does NOT work ... found this out the hard way, and it's failed me twice ... I have it set to backup every 5 minutes, and after 90 minutes of working on the tree, the program crashed ... no problem, right? Reloaded, and clicked to restore the backup file ... waited a few minutes, only to see that the last record was the last one from 90 minutes ago ... FAILURE.
2nd time I created 1 additional record ... and waited 30 minutes before ending the task through task manager ... reloaded, and was given the option to recover the backup ... chose to do so, waited a minute, and FAILURE AGAIN!
The second bug is with the maps ... but this is nothing new ... this bug has been promised and ignored for 2 years now (just search for "maps" in the search messages thread).
Prove me wrong, MyHeritage ... I think you've given up on customer support ... let's see a reply!
The size of the tree doesn't matter, as said in 1) in my previous post, it affect even a completely new project with as little as three individuals (no photos, no additional attachments, just three individuals).
Well even so, I reproduced this with the most recent FTB, build 7107 with the same result.This time I tested both after 5 minutes and 10 minutes. Both times failed, as expected.
What might be interesting to take notice of, I did not publish this test project to www. It would sound strange though if it would have any effect, but at least now you know.
Further, i can tell from the size of the files (.uzed) that the saved project is 1038 bytes and the backup are 1105 bytes. It seems that creating the backup works just fine, it's the initial selection upon start that doesn't work.
This part is actually easy for me to verify because after the startup notice about backup being more recent than the saved copy, FTB will display an overviw of the project being loaded, and here it says it contain 2 individuals, not 3 as the backup does.
