I imported a gedcom from Ancestry to start a fresh project that I'm helping my friend with. The tree has around 800 people, and the duplicate checker came up with around 100 duplicates. Some of these have 3 of the same person, all with different amounts of information and people attached to them (for instance-each of the 3 have grandchildren, just not alll on the same one). Is there an "easy" way to attempt to correct this?
I hope this makes sense...I'm really confused and overwhelmed trying to figure this out.
I have been spending LOTS of time adding census data to individual records. A really nice option would be to offer to add the same fact to other family members - say bring up a pick list of close family members to whom the fact could apply (parents and children and maybe grandparents) Make it smart enough to only present names of living family members. That would considerably speed the process of adding census data.
A similar feature: apply a single citation to many facts. If I cite an obituary that contains date of birth, date of marriage, date came to that state, etc. etc. I'd sure like to be able to have a way to copy that entire citation to each fact instead of having to repeat it line by frustrating bloody line!
What I finally wound up doing with obits and other multi-fact sources is put them into the Citation Tab and then in the Fact Description put "See Citation Tab" but I'll probably regret that the next time I print a report.
This feature is available in the online version of Ancestory.com. I used to extensively during Ancestory.com's recent free census weekend. I completely agree that this would be a much welcomed feature to Family Tree Builder.
I downloaded my first site edited online to FTB and then happily managed to update it. Published the grows several time .. everything when as espected... until last branch added (Grand uncle).
I did this to try to solve it by myself:
1) Discovered I owned 4 trees on 2 accounts 2) Deleted the secondary account.
3)deleted al the trees on the Primary account
4) published afresh from FTB
SAME ERROR AGAIN
5)downloaded as new project into FTB
In the new downloaded FTB all data seems to be there without any missing information.
Cannot solve by myself. Here are the indications.
GIRIN web site: ...under Giacinto Franchino the COGERINO branch (Germana Franchino husband) is shown as "Unknown" >>pictures attached.
Thanks for any suggestion ! Alain Charles GIRIN
PS: question .. If somebody want a peek at my tree, has him to be registered User into MyHeritage?
I think I have the same problem as you. I have followed the suggestions in FAQs, but I still have en bunch of unknowns in the published tree - allthough the names figures in the builder. Waiting for other suggestion!
Ok, I did some more tests:
Exported a Gedcom file form FTB
Downloaded a Gedcom file from MyH
Tried to look at the two and see what differences, (no way it's too complicated to do that manually).
Uploaded the original FTB Gedcom file to Ancestory.com
Unknown appear also there BUT not all .. there are less "unknown"
Downloaded Gedcom file from Ancestory
Opened it in FTB .. less unknown then before.
I suppose something is corrupted in the FTB Gedcom file and that error is reflected into MyH web three.
Any idea how to tackle that ?
Whenever I go to edit my family tree on the website the following message is displayed:
"To grow the tree or make any changes, use Family Tree Builder and then publish the tree again."
Is there a way to be able to edit both online and in the builder? I am planning on editing things whenever I get the time from different computers. I am unable to install the builder on all systems I'll be using. I also prefer the interface online for editing some details.
