I have tried to exporter a CSV file, modify it and save it.
When I want to import it, I am told that the file has the wrong headline.
How I solve this?
Og på dansk
Jeg har prøvet at exportere en csv fil, ændre den og gemme den.
Når jeg så vil importere den, får jeg at vide at filen har en forkert overskrift.
How do you enter details of a child's foster parents?
This are like adoption parents - but is a different legal status in the UK and a child may be fostered by several sets of parents over a period of time - and could even return to their natural parents. It is also not uncommon for a fostered child to remain with the foster parents for the rest of their childhood.
I have found 'adoption' as a status - but not 'fostered'
Okay--I am a premium member. I downloaded FTM from MyHeritage, using my log-in information. But my FTM will not allow me to use the premium facilities, i.e. smartmatching, research, etc. What do I do?
Ahh--that makes sense. How would I find out if I had another account?
When I go to the upgrade page, from the FTB toolbar, the website that opens shows that I have a Premium Account, and if I want to upgrade, it has to be to Premium Plus. Premium would do me just fine, if I could use the facilities in my FTB.
I have a copy of my heritage family tree on my desktop computer and I would like to have it also on my laptop. Can I download the updated copy of it to a new site on my laptop
You have two options, you can either publish your updated version from your desktop to the site and then download it later to your laptop from manage trees in your family site.
Or you can simply carry the GEDCOM file with a flash disk.
In both cases just make sure you have Family Tree Builder installed in your laptop so that you can view and edit your tree.
My hard drive had corrupt files. I need to restore my Family Tree Legends data. At one time, the files were on a server and could be backed up online. Is my data still available? Trying to recover it using the FTL online restore doesn't work.
I am shown that you have 3 family trees on your Premium Family Site.
Two are Family Tree Builder trees, which were published from the program on your computer.
One is a GEDCOM file that was imported directly to the site.
You can confirm this by going to the Family tree > Manage trees page in your Family Site.
If you want to add more information to the Family Tree Builder trees, open the relevant project in Family Tree Builder, add the information, and then publish the updated tree to the site.
Family Tree Builder trees cannot be edited online.
When putting people into the tree, should I include middle names? I have so far, but it counts the middle name as part of the first name (which annoys me).
Should I just leave the middle names out, or is there somewhere else I can put them so it doesn't count as the first name?
You should include middle names, as the most precise is your information the highest chances you will have of finding Smart Matches with other trees in our site, and those Smart Matches can provide you with additional information about people in your tree.
We do not have a special field for middle names and they should be entered indeed as part of the first name. Could you share with us what bothers you specifically in having the middle name as part of the first name?
In Russia a middle name (or more presicely patronymic name) is the obligatory part of a person's name. And I think absence of special field is a big deffect of your program in Russia.
And another defect:
The same "last name" in russian can be different for male and female. For example Romanov for male is the same as Romanova for a female. This should be taken into account than autofill fields for new added persons.
Actually I don't think it is a huge problem simply because Russian patronimic name is fully defined by the father's name. On the other hand I wish there were additional fields for both first and last names, let's call them "also known as". The number of these fields shouldn't be limited to less than let's say 3. This is critical for Jewish genealogy as well as for any family whose members are spread around the world. A lot of people changed their names completely or just the spelling for a multitude of reasons.
