I have two concerns on this topic, so I will make two separate postings.
A place should really be an object that can have a physical location and multiple names. Two names are not sufficient, as many places have had more names over time - and names in multiple languages even at a single time. Someone might also want to record one name as a city, county, state, country, but another as just the city name to be displayed on charts. Ideally it should be possible to choose which name to display for each instance of a a place. There should be a notes field, so the details can be explained.
It should also be possible to have a place with a name, but no known location - or for multiple places to have identical names.
Here is a related problem I have encountered. I just imported my data to FTB, and then switched to the "maps" view. As I expected, many of the locations were not identified correctly. I then spent considerable time correcting these locations by entering latitude and longitude. Of course I expected that these corrections were being saved - but indeed they were not.
I realize that saving these corrections would require a new implementation of "place" as discussed above. I strongly request that this be done, and that it be integrated with the mapping feature. Until that happens,a user making such corrections should be warned that they will only affect the currently displayed map and will not be saved.
Also, I found that when a place name is not recognized at all, it cannot be corrected. It should be possible to enter a latitude and longitude for an unrecognized place.
Personally the mapping feature was the reason I considered FTB, and it is almost useless if corrections cannot be saved.
I have a couple of mistakes on my tree, is there no way to remove or edit them properly?
Somehow a parent has been added as a sibling and a sibling added as a wife and I cant find a way to get the people into their right place.
Ive searched and found that other people have had simular problems and Ive followed the advice given in the other posts. However when I have attempted to remove the people connected to the mistakes the mistakes are still there and now its getting messy...
I have a premiun account for six months but I cannot find this on my site. I don't think the "research" or "match" buttons work, because nothing ever comes up and I don't feel I should pay for something that I will have to find in another place. I thought premium would help with finding people. Also, where do I go to get a refund if I so choose to do so? I cannot find anything on the home webpage for this kind of information and when I checked with my credit card information charge, all I got was the people from PayPal. Please advise as I am very frustrated with your site.
Please note that the Smart Match Merge and Smart Research features are specifically available in Family Tree Builder and not in your online tree.
When you upgrade one of your family sites to a MyHeritage Premium plan, the online benefits are that you can have up to 2,500 people in your family tree online, you will have extended storage for family photos, videos, and documents online and you will get Priority support.
The extra features that you will have access to in the Premium Family Tree Builder are the Smart Research, Smart Match Merge, All-in-one chart, and Publishing of videos, audios, and documents features.
If you have more questions regarding the features available, or if you would like a refund, please let me know at esther @ myheritage.com.
I just upgraded my site to Premium, partly because I have 800 people on the tree, and for me it is working fine, however I have added my wife and son as site managers and their copies of the program are still the standard version. If they edit the tree will they be able to publish all 800 odd people or will it only allow 250?
Is there a way for them to have the full version of the program as well without paying the full upgrade fee again?
Unless you know of a person that has notes, how would you know whom to look for. I feel they should be posted with the facts, etc. (over to the left side when you click on that person in the tree). Would also be nice to have a report that just lists notes for the various people.
In Family Tree Builder in the place pointed by you we ask to enter Nationality and not citizenship, this string also sound in English as Nationality.
If you would like to enter citizenship, I would recommend you to create manually a fact and call it “Citizenship”. You can do it in “Facts” tab in personal card of the individual, by clicking “New fact” button and adding your fact manually.
Possibly Englishmen do not distinguish terms "nationaity" and "cityzenship", but we (Ukrainians and Russians) do. Ukrainian name of the field "nationality" doesn't reflect its purpose, because in this field I can choose a country, not a nation.
So let's assume I would be a paying member for two years. After that time I can stop paying but will still have the possibility to use all the 2,500 slots for individual persons in my tree as usual? Or will it automatically set back to 250 slots again?
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and began using FTB 4 build 916 after that. It crashes on me all the time. I have tried Windows XP mode, Compatibilty mode, Run as administrator. I hit save after almost every change to make sure I do not lose a bunch of work when it crashes. It usually goes to a clear window when I open something to edit. I always know it will crash at that point.
Edit: I found the solution (I think) in another thread. It can't be installed in the c:program files directory.... strange that this is the only program in the world that can not be installed in the default windows program directory, but the workaround will have to do for now....
