I just started using Family Tree Publisher about 3 weeks ago and have already encountered major problems with the program. I have followed the instructions regarding limiting the maximum concurrent Smart Research questions to 0 in my main.cfg file. Changing this does NOT disable the Smart Research function. Even after an upgrade to 2 GB, my laptop is brought to its knees once Smart Research starts running. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can only enter data for about 15 minutes before trouble starts. :(
Yes. I am receiving the same "Out of Memory" message that is being discussed in this thread. This of course happens several minutes after losing control of my system. If the Smart Research module is the cause of this memory leak, I would like any suggestion to help disable it entirely. Even running 1 concurrent request is too much. I cannot use the program for more than 20 minutes at a time, after which I have to restart my system.
I edited the config file to "0" concurrent requests as suggested, but that didn't help. I found that I had one ancestor with the Smart Research option checked. I found this ancestor, clicked Smart Research, clicked Stop, and all is well now.
If, like me, you're unaware that you were even running Smart Research on an ancestor in the first place, that could be the source of the problem.
I keep saving my project file to try and avoid this issue
I have 8600 people in the tree plus photos.
When i get the message and then save > it goes thru the small banner for saving . but i deliverately close by Task Manager the FTB and then come back to the same place..the data is not there..ie the save did not work....false save.
I have just recently got a rush of genealogy bug after your upgrade to ver 5.....so I have been working on my free since last night.
I have another file from another family side...how do I smart load this in....I did the import/merge...but there was too much overalap of same persons that I aboprted it... I have not uploaded that bloodline to the website and am now hoping that I get smart matches...but it does not seem to be coming up with smart matches....
Thank you for your suggestion, Geoff. My problem has literally fixed itself since my last post. The program has reset all of the Smart Research data as if I'd never run those searches before! Now that things are running well again, I'm very reluctant to run that search again. For now, I will just have to check the Smart Matches that are found through the web site!
I have download and am using FTB basic. I have started a site and have added a few photos. I have several photos that I need to post BUT I need to have the family memebers that I invite leave comments to identify the people in the pictures WITHOUT REGISTERING with MyHeritage. Is that possible
If you invite them to your Family Site, using the Invite More Family page,
they will be able to add comments,
as well as tag the photos themselves, to help you out.
Ok inviting them to the site and having them ass comments and "tag" (whatever that means ) the photos is exactly what I want them to be able to do. I was asking if they could do this without registering for MyHeritage.com.
I'm relatively new to using the Family Tree Builder but I seem to have lost lots of data somehow. I have entered lots of sibblings of the people that make the ancestors tree, but suddenly I only see the family names and entered dates only of these sibblings. In some cases I can still see the surname but when entering the edit screen for this person the surname field is blank.
