Thank you for clarifying it. We have a problem with Windows Vista on old versions of Family Tree Builder (build 3.0.0.820 and below). The problem is that the default installation path is c:\program files\myheritage and users who accept the default on Vista may run into permissions problems later that prevent saving the program's configuration file. The symptom you are seeing is that the data language of the program is not being saved properly, but the same would apply to any non-default configuration setting you'd like to change. We solved this in newer versions by change the default installation folder on Vista to be away from c:\program files.
So my suggestion to you is the following: download the latest version of Family Tree Builder 3.0 from our site, which is 3.0.0.836 at the moment, from here. After doing that, uninstall your Family Tree Builder. Don't worry, it will not delete data, it will only remove program files. Then install the new version 3.0.0.836 and be sure to install it into c:\myheritage and not c:\program files\myheritage
This should address your problem and you will find that the new version also runs much faster on Vista. Please try this and update here with the outcome.
Reinstall executed on C:\MyHeritage on Vista Business 32-bit system. MyHeritage works like a dream. Fast and remembers the language settings. So, everything is ok.
I started to work with my tree off line, locally in my PC. Once I had enough information I published my work in the web. Some relatives want to change some information and I don’t know how to do it.
If I change the information in my FTB it works perfectly, then I publish or actualize it ,and nothing changes in the web.
If I download the information that I have published( GEDCOM), I can see the changes ( locally in my FTB), but not in the web.
once you publish your tree from FTB it cannot be edited online.
If you would like to have a family tree you can edit online, do the following:
Open your family tree in Family Tree Builder.
Go to File > Export Gedcom.
Now go to your family site.
Click on Family Tree > Import Gedcom.
Browse your computer to find the gedcom you just created.
Click upload and that's it!
Now you have a family tree that you can work on online. **Keep in mind that the Import Gedcom feature on family sites will not include photos. You'll have to include them separately.
If you need help with any of this, please let me know.
Import new project ..Close project as suggested in the messae...you'll find option to merge to previous (closed project ) in the next dialogue. Very tricky..
you can import all of your photos and tag them. It might take a while, but afterwards you will be able to work directly from Family Tree Builder, and you won't have to go through it again.
I'm trying to research some early Judao-Christian dates and make some sense of it all with FTB, however years before 100AD get the error message "not recognised". If you enter years as free text, the tree shows "?" and doesn't calculate people's ages.
Thanks. Good point. We already fixed this problem. It will be part of the next version of Family Tree Builder and we may release it with a bunch of other fixes sooner.
I imported a GEDCOM file and then made a Book Report. It looked great but there were a couple of things I wanted to edit. Some of the information though I cannot find in FamilyTree Builder.
In the Book report it correctly says certain people resided at different places at certain dates, but I can't find where it is listed in the program.
I've looked at VIEW.. PLACES and under the facts for these individuals and there is just nothing there about there residences, but I know it's gotta be somewhere because it shows up in the Book Report.
I have the same problem. If I remember right I put these facts in under Misc, now they don't appear in the facts list and I am unable to do anything with them at all. They do appear in the Book Report though.
Please someone reply to this and help us sort out this very irritating problem.
I am using FTB 3,0,0,820 with Windows XP (automatic update from Microsoft site).
When I try to export one branch by selecting several ( /10) ancestors, FTB always crash and when creating the ged file and the size of the ged file is almost the same as the ged for my whole family tree.
I have built a tree with a number of people of 536.But to upload a tree I needed to delete at least 36 people. I have deleted 50 people but the last person still has the ID-number 536 and the web-site refuses to upload it. How can I solve this problem?
