I have recently encountered an issue with the latest build of the Family Tree Builder. Unlike in previous editions, now when I add personal photo's in the method that has always existed, I end with just a blank white square where the image should be. This has been left overnight to see if it was an update issue, and the issue persists when I re-load the next day. I have several personal photographs attached to other people in the tree, and this is recent with the new build. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to resolve this.
How do I add a child to the mother when there is no father listed on the birth/death certificates. The mother was 15 at the time of the birth. It appears she was 14 when the baby was conceived. It lived 5 days. The mother was later married twice & had 1 "legitimate" child. I do remember seeing a similar post a few years ago but can't remember what the reply was.
I simply add a father (after all there ALWAYS is one!) and leave his name as Unknown. Or sometimes I have (because it sounds nicer) named him (if the little girl is called Mary) as "Mary's Father". If he is not the first partner entered, or for future partners/ husbands right click in the 'card' of the mother, click on Spouses, Manage Spouses, Add Spouse, (or Attach Spouse if the new partner is already in the tree) and insert the details. And click on the appropriate Marriage Status (Partners, Friends, Unknown, Other) , altering the status of previous relationships if appropriate (to Widowed if they died, Divorced if divorced, I have even used Annulled once.)
'Single Parent' sounds silly, as I said there IS a father. Geoff
All very nice- but in places like Australia- there exists a pension for a woman who is a mother and has child- Its called the single mothers pension or some such name and IS derived from the FACT that she is a single mother- albiet there WAS partner in conception- but not legally or responsible to offer support.
So the determination of a partner at conception is real but a father- missing indicates the woman has a big job to do alone and she shouild be recoreded as such and highly admired.
I have no problem - please don't take that wrong way - with father not being around. For what it's worth the birth/death took place in 1887. I think we all know that was a NO NO in those days! In fact if the current day descendants of the particular mother - or the family in general - knew about this they have kept it quiet!
And remember the mother was only 15. I don't have a copy of the birth certificate, but I do have the death certificate and the informant was the girls mother. I know that a certain descendant of the girl's mother would be horrified if she knew about it - if she doesn't already!
Basic problem: When i try to sync it appears to complete then i get a message saying "Syncing the Project has failed. Please check the sync log for details." When i check the sync log it states "Sync has failed. Failure reason is: '20 prepsql.exe didn't create mandatory sql files'".
Extensive problem: I have used the free version of the software for perhaps 2 years without any faults. Alongside this syncing problem i also had an issue when i opened the programme to find it refusing to open my current project. My husband retrieved the back up files, unzipped and copied them across. I thought this had fixed the issue, so spent around 8 hours straight on the project after finding some extensive and interesting history of family members being Revs at the same church for several generations. Only to find the next day this was all lost. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. I am now nervous of spending the time i would like on the project, only for it to be wasted. So i need to try and fix the syncing bug incase it has something to do with it.
Thankyou for reading, any help would be greatly appreciated. Claire Sell
However judging by the words you used in the forum post it seems that you are familiar with the word "sync" which suggests that you did install ftb 7. In any case you should update your software to the latest version and see if the bugs still apply.
We had some reports that the family tree builder malfunctioned straight after installation -> we would recommend to restart your computer after the installation of the new software and then to try and work on it again.
Let me know how it works out for you (either via the private email we sent you before, or here in the forums).
I am running 7117. I also restarted when i recently updated/installed it as i recall my husband reminded me. As per your instruction I have just installed and restarted again but there was no change. I don't think i've ever run v6 before. Only 5634, 7101 and 7117.
I'm a pretty frustrated user right now. Ever since the second to the last update (The one prior to 7117), I have been unable to use any features of the desktop product which rely on syncing. It keeps telling me that the local copy is not synced online, so I go through that and then it says it did it but as soon as I do anything such as "Family Statistics", it says I'm not currently syncing online and makes me do it all over again.
I tried using the support form but either got "Currently Not Available" after typing in my support request or "Thank You" but never receiving a reply or contact in e-mail.
This issue has been going on for a month or more and I am unable to use my Premium subscription because of this.
Please FIX your support form or give us an e-mail address to allow PAYING subscribers the ability to communicate with you.
-- Edit: After the third try, I finally received a confirmation that they have received my support request. But in that request I just asked for someone to contact me because I did not want to write the same thing over and over again.
We are interested in hearing more about the contact form not working and we have sent you an email requesting for a screenshot of the message "Currently Not Available" that you received. We had an issue where we didn't get some of the emails in the form but we fixed that and it should function properly again (the fix happened few days ago).
As for the syncing issue, we would be glad if you could try to shut off the automatic sync by going to Tools > Options > Sync > Automatic sync - disable this function and then try to make a minor change on your tree and sync.
The only way to get a screen shot of the support form is to fill out test messages. If you don't mind me doing that, I can certainly give it a shot. Maybe all the servers in your farm weren't updated and I just happened to hit the one with old code?
As far as they syncing goes, that did not work. To be precise, I did the following:
Went to Tools > Options > Sync and changed the setting "Sync Projects automatically to my sites" to "No".
Went to my record and in the details, I added an "Occupation" on the Info tab and clicked OK.
Clicked the "Sync" button on the toolbar and waited for it to complete.
I looked at the comm.log and saw nothing unusual. (at least nothing that said the word "Error")
I then clicked on Family Site button in the toolbar and then clicked Family Statistics
I get a dialog a dialog titled "Family Site Benefits" and the first sentence saying "In order to enjoy this feature and many more, you must first sync your Project to a family site on MyHeritage.com"
If I click "Sync (Publish) Now", it takes me to the "Define Sync Setting" dialog.
It states that I'm logged in and shows me my existing site.
I choose that and click OK
It presents a Sync Conflict dialog and states that I have 1792 individuals in BOTH online and local trees.
I choose "Update" because any recent updates would have been on the web site.
It closes my project, does the whole update process, reloads the project and then the dialog closes automatically.
I can repeat from the step 5 on down, over and over again with the same results.
