I have two family trees, one with 200-some individuals and another with 900. The first still works perfectly, but something funny has happened to the second. On Tuesday when I went to save it, instead of taking the usually 30 sec-1 min, it took close to 10. I hadn't made any major changes (maybe added 3 people to the project) so I thought it was a fluke. The next time I saved it (again, no changes) it was a 40 minute wait. Now it doesn't save at all, just sits there, not responding. It loads (this takes a couple minutes now, but used to be really fast), and I was able to export it as a zip file, but "save" and "save as" are useless.
Here's what I have tried so far: reinstalling (with newest version), uninstalling and reinstalling, reimporting from the exported zip and renaming it, deleting all the pictures... I even installed it on my sister's new laptop and although it ran really fast, saving the project still took 30 minutes.
I am running Vista with Service Pack 2 (just installed two weeks ago, but like I said, the problems didn't start until this Tues). All I can think of that I might have done is that I turned off Auto-Save after the first slow save (because auto-save was taking 1-3 min and freezing up my computer) and right after this the problem escalated. But turning auto-save back on didn't help at all, since it now locks up the program too.
Here are the stats of my project: 949 individuals, 369 families, 12 sources, 24 notes, 212 photo records, file size 1227.7 kb, compression-Yes, and last loading time was 216.5 seconds (previously it had been 10-15s).
My photos are really big, but they had never slowed it down before, and I didn't add any new ones in before this problem started. And like I said, the other project still works perfectly (although, I can't "save as" with that one either, as it tells me the paths are invalid for any new names I give it). I didn't install any new programs this week, Windows is up to date, and I defragged and scanned last week with Mcafee, Avast, and Malwarebytes--so I really doubt it's a virus. So has this happened to anyone else? Is my project corrupted somehow?
Thanks for the listen. I've worked on this for the past eight hours today, and I'm out of ideas.
Awhile back, I started a FaceBook group for fans and users of Family Tree Builder (what is, of course, the very BEST genealogy program out there today!) (Just for the record, I am NOT an employee of the company!!!)
I've been using FTB for several years now, and through several versions. I love this program, and just think it rocks, no question. And I thought it needed its own FaceBook Group for us all to gather on, and offer tips and suggestions for new users, ask questions for experienced users, and to share suggestions for new features we'd like to see.
If you are interested in joining our FaceBook group, just search for the Group "Family Tree Builder Genealogy Program", and you should find it okay...if you have any trouble, feel free to post a message here, and I'll help you get to it. :-)

I would be most pleased to have you, and any other FTB employees, as members of the group! I've communicated with Gilad Japhet on occasion as well, and although I decided not to "invite" him it was only because I know he's a busy man. But I would be VERY glad to have any and all of you there! If you don't mind identifying yourselves as employees, that would be great (just so people are clear), but I think it's a great idea!
I believe I may already be on the Beta Testers list...I have used beta versions before (v. 3), but I'd be very pleased to continue being a beta tester!
Very nice to hear from you! I hope you have a fantastic day!

I posted this in Family Pages but I think I should have posted it here--
I am trying to export my project from Family Tree Builder to a GEDCOM file, but I cannot get it to work. I click File and then Export Gedcom. I have tried clicking Next and Save As but the Save As screen does not work. I have tried putting a full path filename into the Filename box and I've tried creating new folders, but nothing works. The Save button doesn't work and the Cancel button doesn't work either. I have to x out of the Save window every time. I tried re-installing the .exe file, but it still doesn't work. Please help!!
I have scanned a number of documents and saved them as pdfs or jpegs in one folder. When I ask FTB to search that folder for photos to import, it only finds a small number of the files. I have gone to Tools/Options/Photos and increased the file size it will import, but this only makes it worse. Instead of finding 4 photos to import, it only finds 1 or 2!
It also fails to find any pdf file to import. I thought that you could import documents as Word or pdf and associate them with people in the tree.
After I entered a family (husband/wife, almost a dozen children, and dozens of grand-children), I realized I had already added them in the database before. Now I have the same family in my database twice.
All of the entries contain new information, and so what I want to do is not DELETE the second entries for each member of the family, but actually merge them into one.
Am can't be the first person to have this problem...is there some way to merge two people into just one, like using the merge feature from other FTB users, but within my own database?
I would like to install FTB on two computers and share the FTB data files with Windows 7 and Homegroup (wanting to have the files open at the same time is not necessary for me, by the way). What files or folders should I move to the Homegroup location? Thanks.
There is a way for you to transfer all your information from your one computer to another computer.
What you have to do is first save your family tree from the first computer onto removable media. The best way to back up your family tree is to use Family Tree Builder’s backup facility on File>Back up Project. It will save a single file, perfect for backup, that contains your family tree and all its photos and documents. You can save it to a usb flash key, or to a cd/dvd.
Such a backup can later be restored on family Tree Builder on a different computer, by going into Family Tree Builder on that computer and using File>Restore Project.
Please note that if you update your tree on one of the computers, you should update your tree on the other computer as well.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
