Using FamilyTreeBuilder 126.96.36.1996 when you create a citation and set the confidence value to "Unreliable" and save the person. When you re-select the person the citation confidence value has changed back to "(not specified)".
There is another problem when you export it to GEDCOM. All of the confidence values exported are one greater than they should be. The GEDCOM 5.5 standard requires a citation confidence (QUAY) value in the range 0-3. The values FTB is exporting are in the range 1-4 (although I have never seen a 1 as those values aren't being saved - see above comment). This causes a problem when these values are reported in a Book Report by "The Complete Genealogical Reporter" as the citation confidence reported is wrong.
Hi, when using maps on the program it is crashing. It has been happening before but I just stopped using it. but today I tried to update some places on the map.
When I change the name of a place by just editing the place name, it is OK and returns to editing.
When I go into the details of a person from maps to change something about the person ie post office swaffham, Norfolk, England to move the post office bit into description and then click OK it should return to the Map for more editing but it crashes and I have to close the program.
I have started to do a family tree. I am novice with FTB. I have collected many facts and started to input everything into the program. I have a question now because I have either done something wrong or I found a bug.
I have done a screenshot of a part of a tree from FTB and then the same tree from the web. As you can see from the web screenshot, the couple circled in red is shown twice there.
I populated my family tree on the web bsaed programme of Myheritage. I have since downloded the programme onto my laptop so I could use it when I do not have a internet connection, have I got to input all the data again, or can i download the data from my web based account into the computer based one, and secondley is there a way to syncronise the two if I do some work offline.
My old pc was about to crash so I copied everything on a backup hard drive. I now have a MAC is there a way to upload a file(s) online to retrieve my family tree I was working on? I understand the Family Tree builder doesn't work for MAC users yet.
I have quite a few children in my family tree that are a result of non marriage relationships. The relationship might have broken up since but if i try to them insert children of that past relationship without inserting their parent as a spouse they have to come in as a child of the new spouse, which they are not.
Add the previous partner and set the relationship marriage status to 'partner', 'friends', 'unknown' or 'other' as appropriate. Be aware that these are non-standard (GEDCOM 5.5) relationship types and importing your tree into other software or tree websites may not recognise the value and assume they are married.
Then link or add the child to this couple instead.
If you don't want to name, or don't know the name of the previous partner then you can leave both names as blank. How empty names are displayed can be configured in the options. Additionally you can set the person to private by editing the person details and click 'privatise this person' on the info tab.
I've been using FTB for over a year now; and it's a great program. The only problem that I'm having with it is that it's starting to get slow. I did a little experiment and discovered that it is because my tree is so large; with 42,000 people in it. Is there anyway that the program can be changed so that it doesn't slow down the larger the tree gets?
I am trying to do a couple of things with the All-in-One chart option, but the system fails to allow me to do them. It is quite possible that the size of it is the major issue, but that should not stop the product working. When I create my All-in-One chart, it tells me that there are -21,000 pages, which is about what I was expecting it to be. However, I am unable to then save it or to take any of the options to change the look of it as the relevant screens either do not display or display in a broken fashion i.e. part of the relevant screen is shown only and it will not display any other ioptions. If I try to save the chart, again the relevant screens do not display properly and therefore I am unable to save it.
It is difficult to show exactly what is happening but if you wish to have the file I am happy to send it to you so that you may see yourselves what is happening.
I also am having problems with the all in one and also the book tryed various ways to do this but nothing seems to work, also it does not show foster parents even when I check the foster parents box, tryed to do this on tree builder but when I save it I loose all info below the picture
Yes, the chart is being created in FTB. The chart itself creates perfectly with no problems and I can move around the chart OK. The problems arise when I try to apply any Styles, Options or try to save it. The screens that should display at the point of hitting those buttons seem to go peculiar at this stage which leads me to think it is a memory problem possibly. If you would like me to send you the data I can so you can try for yourself, or I am happy for you to do a 'GoToMeeting' type remote session to show you what happens.
Sending you the Chart will not be possible as saving it from the Chart Menu is one of the problems I have. If I can send you the complete file you should be able to recreate the problem, however it is a 152MB zipped based on the output from the Backup Option on the menu. Please tell me the best way to get you the file. Also I am running XP Pro with SP3 installed.
