I would much prefer that the developers devote their time and energy in cleaning up problems in the existing FTB and and its coordination with the online tree than in introducing new features. Any new function added to software brings with it problems and unanticpated effects that plague developers and increase distracting complaints in these fora.
Hi. I started a small tree on the MyHeritage website. I had a larger tree on Geni so I exported the file, downloaded Family Tree Builder, and imported the geni file and merged it with my MyHeritage tree all in Family Tree Builder. I synced it and now on the MyHeritage site the number of relatives I have reflects the import, I have many more relatives than before, but when I view my tree on the MyHeritage site the imported relatives don't show up. And if I add one manually there is no notice saying that that member is already in my tree. Please help!
I keep a database of documents and photos and give document a name that begins with the person's ID that is displayed in my FTB database. I chose this system of naming because I thought the ID would be fixed and it would distinguish between two people of the same name. I have over 5000 people in my tree and well over 5000 documents and photos, all named this way.
After having to take a prolonged break from working on my tree, I just returned to the project. After upgrading to the most recent version of FTB, I started adding documents again. But to my dismay, I discovered that the FTB individual numbers had changed. The person who used to be 135 is now 134; the person who used to be 5006 is now 4834. Yikes. That means that all my careful tagging of the documents has gone up in smoke.
I keep GEDCOM backups of my tree, so I looked at the source files going back to 2010. I see that a some point, the GEDCOMS start to include the RIN automated record tag. The RIN numbers correspond to the "person ID" I used to see in FTB and which I based my document database on. So, the data I need is still there; it's just that FTB no longer displays it.
Is there some sort of switch that FTB uses that would let me see the RIN instead of the ID?
If not, can you suggest an alternative to manually renaming all my documents with a new number (which might change again somehow someday - I don't know how it happened in the first place)?
Dear Felipe, thank you for your prompt response. I hope this idea will be approved by myheritage team and incorporated soon. Chatting room would be great feature of myheritage site(your site will be the first one to have chatting room option) to help family tree members to keep in touch and exchange their news and make announcements. Then I don't have to call to each individual separately, instead I would talk to all of them same time. I think it is going to be a lot of fun to let people to get together, to introduce each other ( some family members live in different countries and didn't know about each other) and chat. Next step will be family reunion!
When upgrading to version 7 B7143 after clicking upgrade, nothing happens. When you reselect "upgrade" an invalid assumption is made. The software mistakenly assumes the current tree is the most current (It may not be) and pushes the out of date tree up to the web, when it should DO NOTHING.
I can see that at the moment you have already our most recent build of Family Tree Builder. The issue with the update through the software has been already looked into and we expect not to have it again on the newest versions.
Regarding the family trees, it is always important to make sure you don't have irrelevant duplicated files in it, in order to avoid syncing the incorrect one (either manually or automatically) and therefore cause an override and loss of data on the site.
When you have just one project on Family Tree Builder (FTB) and it is outdated with the online tree, you are supposed to receive a message, once you open it on FTB, telling you about that discrepancy and asking you whether you want to download the version from the site to your FTB, or upload the FTB version onto the site -- then overriding the existing version on the site.
Haven't you received that message when you opened that outdated file?
I did recieve that message. I frequently recieve that message when I start FTB. But, selecting "download" (which is the only option I've ever chosen) does nothing but dismiss the dialog box. This isn't a rare occurance either. It happens every time.
Hi, just wanted to let you know that something appears to be broken in the latest version of Chrome. I was using the family tree last night and it was working fine. Today however it is not loading properly in Chrome for PC.
