it has happened again. Everything I filled in in the last few days is gone again. I really start to hate this site now. Why did verwant.nl go together with this site?
When I generate an all in one chart, on person is duplicated, and shown with a second, unknown spouse, no parents, no children. The person is also shown with her correct family.
When I examine the data, it says she has only one spouse (the correct one). there is no mention of the phantom spouse. Her real husban's data seems to be all correct.
It looks as if it finds the largest amount of text that would be in any box, then applies this "one size fits all" to every other person. Consequently, removing the photographs (there aren't any) and reducing the font size will only take you so far. If one or two people have a long name then it is split over 2 lines, and, together with DoB and DoD, all boxes are then 4 lines high.
Suggestion: Allow the user to specify the minimum (default) size of a box and then automatically make the exceptions bigger.
BTW, if you are looking at improving charts, the facility to manually rearrange the boxes would be improved by a "snap-to-grid" option and/or a "nudge by one pixel using arrow keys" for fine tuning.
So if you find you don't like the style of the chart, you have a lot more options to choose from, some of which feature a very minimalistic look that can help you save space.
It is also still possible to use the chart options menu to reduce the size of fonts and personal photos, as well as remove the photos completely or remove certain facts.
Hi there, I have some Unknown surnames in my database. If I use UNKNOWN as a surname it disappears after saving the file. When i reopen for another session, it appears in capitals on the card, however when i doubleclick the card to go into facts etc. the surname field is blank. Why does this happen? I can't fix it from the Tools -> Options-> Names-> Empty last name as it only gives the option of blank, ?, -, ---, or Unknown. The same thing happens when I want to use Unknown for Empty first name.
How can i fix this the way I want it, because when I export as a GEDCOM file both the Unknown & UNKNOWN appear as ? and people I send the GEDCOM file to have complained about it
How can I synchronize all the photos between the website and FTB? The photos on the website are all right. I would like to sync with FTB where I don't have the photo's yet. Thanks.

I'm trying to do the same but the titles of the photo's are not loading, all I get are photo0001, photo0002 etc. If there are 50, it's a nightmare to identify them. Any suggestions would be very helpful, thank you
I am working with the new version Family Tree Builder 4. When I open my tree project, I see all the data and photos correctly, but when I open a person file, I don't see neither name and surname nor other relevant data. Moreover, if I add new data, though I click on "Save", the new data are not saved, so not published.
What can I do? Can I edit my tree directly in the web?
The problem seemed to be a little more difficult. I saved the application with other name and got to recover all the data. I saved it again with the original name and one of the problems was solved.
Then when I published it, I obtained a new family tree. I had to remove the original one...
I have two family trees, one with 200-some individuals and another with 900. The first still works perfectly, but something funny has happened to the second. On Tuesday when I went to save it, instead of taking the usually 30 sec-1 min, it took close to 10. I hadn't made any major changes (maybe added 3 people to the project) so I thought it was a fluke. The next time I saved it (again, no changes) it was a 40 minute wait. Now it doesn't save at all, just sits there, not responding. It loads (this takes a couple minutes now, but used to be really fast), and I was able to export it as a zip file, but "save" and "save as" are useless.
Here's what I have tried so far: reinstalling (with newest version), uninstalling and reinstalling, reimporting from the exported zip and renaming it, deleting all the pictures... I even installed it on my sister's new laptop and although it ran really fast, saving the project still took 30 minutes.
I am running Vista with Service Pack 2 (just installed two weeks ago, but like I said, the problems didn't start until this Tues). All I can think of that I might have done is that I turned off Auto-Save after the first slow save (because auto-save was taking 1-3 min and freezing up my computer) and right after this the problem escalated. But turning auto-save back on didn't help at all, since it now locks up the program too.
Here are the stats of my project: 949 individuals, 369 families, 12 sources, 24 notes, 212 photo records, file size 1227.7 kb, compression-Yes, and last loading time was 216.5 seconds (previously it had been 10-15s).
My photos are really big, but they had never slowed it down before, and I didn't add any new ones in before this problem started. And like I said, the other project still works perfectly (although, I can't "save as" with that one either, as it tells me the paths are invalid for any new names I give it). I didn't install any new programs this week, Windows is up to date, and I defragged and scanned last week with Mcafee, Avast, and Malwarebytes--so I really doubt it's a virus. So has this happened to anyone else? Is my project corrupted somehow?
