FTB crashes after confirming or not confirming or just closing a message about a new feature in managing photo's, so I can't get any photo attached to a person.
I only get the massage in one family, in a other family the message doesn't appear and I can attach photo's.
I'm trying to export part of a family tree and want to retain all people on that side. I selected some key family members and their spouses and then I edited the export so that all ancestors, descendents, and spouses were included. When I opened the exported gedcom in FTB, the ancestors of the female spouse were not included. Next I tried to import just selected individuals into a project, but it seems that FTB doesn't allow this.
So my questions are:
1) How can I set the export to make sure all ancestors of the selected people are included?
2) How can I import a gedcom INTO another family tree and thereby add people to the tree without typing the info all over again?
When exporting only certain branches of your family tree from Family Tree Builder, you only have the option to choose people to export and then you can select that person, and select 'edit' and choose any of the following:
1)include descendants
2) include descendants- this is really Include ancestors. It is a bug that we are aware of, and are working on fixing it. You can choose it.
The problem was this: I exported the eight people who were my great-grandparents and edited them to include ancestors, descendents, and spouses. However, the *ancestors* of the four women did not get exported. Everything else did. That's what I'd like to fix.
It seems all the controls are not functioning properly. I can't browse or traverse the folders. Am i doing something wrong or have a setting incorrect?
About 6 months ago I changed my email address to a dedicated address for genealogy queries. When I load FTB it shows my other email address as the registration and not the dedicated address. Can my registration be changed to the dedicated address, as Smart matches is saying "There is no such member on MyHeritage.com. Make sure you typed your email address correctly"
If you require the new details, can I send them to you via email, as at the moment, I would prefer not to have my email addresses show in the forum
When I receive calendar alerts, they are coming to the dedicated address, so there must have been a change made somewhere!
Open up Family Tree Builder on your computer. Go to 'Publishing' on your toolbar, and from there to Publishing Settings > Advanced Settings. There you will see the option to login using your new email address and password.
I have done as you said. However I don't want to publish my site as I have my own web site.
I opened the "Advanced Publishing settings"
Login parameters - Use my current My Heritage .com account (xxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.com.au) This is the account I want to change.
Use this account - I can't seem to click on this radio button.
In other words NO LUCK!
All I want to do is change the MyHertiage.com account name!!!!!
EDIT
Just to make things clear . As stated above, I DON'T WANT TO BE ABLE TO PUBLISH AS I HAVE MY OWN WEB SITE. I use FTB as my main Genealogy software program for my data, which is exported as GEDCOM to a generating program (GED-GEN).
I have FTB (latest version) installed on a laptop. I have also installed it (latest version) on a PC. The reason I did this is that unbeknowns to me one of the files duplicated, so consequently any additions had ID numbers that were twice the original total plus 1.
I fixed this "glitch" by exporting a GEDCOM file from FTB to my old software program, fixing the problem then export back to FTB. I had to do some "tweaking" but at least the ID numbers are now Ok. BUT, I am getting heaps of smart matches from the PC installation but NOT on the laptop. I have 12 different families in my databases.
Le't say Family A & Family B have common names in both families. I am working with Family B - on the PC - and referencing from Family A - on the laptop - the names on the PC are smart matching, but the same names on the laptop don't always reference smart matching. All settings on Tools > Options are the same. Would I be better off uninstalling FTB from the laptop and do a "clean" install?
The site and the program are different and each is suitable for a different type of user.
Family Tree Builder is the software that is saved on your computer. It can hold more information for each individual in your tree than the site can. It is great for users that want to be the main contributor to the family tree, and have less input from their site members. When you create a tree in Family Tree Builder, you can choose to leave it on your computer without publishing it, or you can publish the tree to your family site. We suggest that you publish the tree to your site as an added backup for the tree. Please note: when you publish a family tree to your family site, the tree becomes read-only on the site. This means that neither you nor your site members can edit the tree on your site. In order to make changes, you will have to edit the tree in Family Tree Builder, and then re-publish the tree to your site.
Alternatively, creating a tree directly on your family site, is great if you would like your site members to add to your tree.
I want to separate the tree I have built, as it is now growing.
How can I copy the info into a new tree?
Would I have to transfer the complete tree and when I have two identical trees, start manually deleting each member from one side.Untill I have the two separate families????
Should I do that in the tree builder and then publish??
"Next, please use the attached guide to export a branch from your main tree and export that branch only to a Gedcom file that will be saved on your computer.
Then Upload that Gedcom file to one of your family sites."
I do not ee ant attachment, assume this explains how select one family and then do the same for te other.
