I was in for that solution also but I thought that there must be a simpler solution. I mean, The whole idea is to take a family photo and mark the faces for each family member and save as a personal photo. If this does not work, then this function is useless.
I have made some experiments with my photoshop and changed the image size from 233x256 to 250x350 and centered the image in the new size. With the new size it fits better to the personal photo size and the "face" box dont need adjustment. So now I can import the same image and use it for several persons.
The problem seems to be the image propotions or size?????? I dont know how this will work on a family photo.
I have a relating subject for this. I have adjusted pictures for coat of arms so I don't have to adjust the picture all the time. Suddenly when i generated a book report there was a few induviduals that I have added a coat of arms that wasn't presented with that in the book report. With the view in FTB it looks correct with the coat of arms in the tree view, but when I go in under photograph it is not checked as a face pick for that person? In some way this check box is unchecked but not buy me? Any suggestions?
imo statements like "there is no plan on releasing a linux version" are the reasons companies don't keep pace with current developments, since linux is a ever-growing market, as you may see in Android distribution which essentially runs a linux as base and other sections if one is willing to see.
So, enough lecturing, plus 1 for a linux version, and as I am a software developer and diploma computer scientist, I would gladly help in this effort.
Thanks your feedback and contacting us on our forum.
As stated above, our Family Tree Builder program does not support the Linux operating system, although, thankyou for the suggestion. I will be sure to forward it once again to the appropriate department for consideration.
Please let us know if you have any other ideas as we do value such input from our users.
Still no news about a Family Tree Builder for Linux?
A lot of laptops (indeed most laptops until recently) run under Linux and (thanks to Canonical) Linux (Ubuntu) is much more installed on desktops.
When I choose MyHeritage, I looked at its APIs and a few other details as requirements, including a native Linux solution, a Flash-free website running fine with Firefox and Chrome, ...
If there has been a serious competitor with a good software natively running under Linux, I wouldn't have subscribed to MyHeritage.
It would be nice to at least (test and) provide some documentation about running FTB with Wine under Linux (see post 724651).
You could also provide a pre-packaged installer with a sandboxed wine as Google does with Picasa (in the way PlayOnLinux manages Wine installs). That wouldn't be the Graal but still much better than nothing.
Note that working on such a solution would also bring FTB to Mac OS X users (see darwine).
Also, in the Wine Application Database (AppDB) the Family Tree Builder has really bad evaluation (called "garbage"!) which is the worse possible evaluation: "An application gets this rating if it cannot be used for the purpose it was designed for. (...) Application cannot be installed, does not start, or starts but has so many errors that it is nearly impossible to use it.". That evaluation was done with FTB 5.0 free.
This is discouraging. You should really work on Wine install and compliance while you don't provide native editions.
I had to reinstal W7 & Family Tree Builder. How do I download all my research from MyHeritage.com and load it into the Family Tree Builder? ( I have about 150 entries) I am using the free version of MyHeritage.
I have a cousin in the States that is working very closely with me on our Genealogy. I live in Canada. My question is, is it possible for her to download Family tree builder into her computer and have it tied into my site? That way we can be working together, talking thru skype and seeing the exact same things before we upload. That would be the ideal situation for us.
I also want to comment on what a wonderful program and site this is. It is so hard to imagine that all these years of my collecting information and documents and storing them in files and boxes has come to this! You make everything so organized and easy to put in and find. I love the program, and everyone that has joined my site is literally blown away by what it has to offer. All I can say is, Thank you so very much for all of the hard work you have done to put this together and to keep it working so well. I did a fair amount of research before I settled on My Heritage and it is the best thing I could have done!
Thanks for writing to us, and for the positive feedback.
I can switch your tree to a tree that can be edited online. That way both you and your cousin can edit it online, but it won't be edited from Family Tree Builder. I think this would be the best option for you, so if you would like that, please let me know.
I found myself working with family members over the continent confident using subversion.
Simply work on your things.. and push it to the SVN server.. everyone can do it,
you can create branches for everyone..
and 1 person simply copy/paste/merge manually..
that way, everyone can research and always upload the lastest version online, while the "merger" you can appoint
anyone to that, or everyone does it from time to time (weekends?) and you'll have everything synchronised.
Also, by using SVN you always have backups and tracks of changes.. if you use autobackup to an online FTP host
you can spread your backups automatically..
the setup took me a few hours.. but now everyone can work together, I have different backups in the USA, EU, Russia and China.. so probably even a big outage on some continent I can handle very well without loosing info.
It would be nice if MyHeritage developers include this in FTB, since most exists for c sharp and c in open source, would take me less then a week to include everything in FTB. But unfortunately I'm not on the FTB team :(
I have a new laptop and tried to copy my heritage files to my new laptop and this was unsucessful as I keep getting error messages. I have copied absolutely everything from programs and files but still not working. My question is if I download a new my heritage database will it overwrite all information I have already copied.
On my old laptop I still have all the gedcom files but these do not seem to be recognised on my new laptop running with windows 7.
Därefter öppna Family Tree Builder på din dator, gå till "arkiv", "återställ projekt". Och välj "återställ från uppkopplad släktwebbplats". Där kan du välja vilket av dina träd som du vill arbeta med på din dator.
