Hello everybody, I'm having a problem for a long time about Family Tree Builder. I creatied many profiles and I filled their information fileds and when I synchronize the softare I don't get any error but when I check the website some of them are not synchronized and and I see "untitled name" on their names but I can'y see any other information about that profiles which I already filled. But I can see the names and the information in my pc by Family Tree Builder but can't synchronize. Please help.
some time ago my FTB and online site stopped syncing. I don't know why. I have been using the online site only now for some time. I have now decided to restore from the site (on which I have since worked a lot) to FTB because I need to resume work on it. But FTB won't restore locations for any events. Everyone seems to be on it, just the locations don't appear on FTB.
I would appreciate some help with this issue.
UPDATE: just realised that when I create a familly group report on a person, all the information seems to be present, including locations. The personal data for locations just doesn't appear in the main FTB boxes/windows for each individual. This remains a problem and a mistery, and I still need help here.
2nd UPDATE: when I open the sources list, they seem to be all there. But clicking twice on a source to edit it reveals a completely blank window with nothing in it, not even the source title. Very odd.
I have 2 aunties who married two of my uncles, and another of those aunties is a cousin of the same family who also married my uncle. How do i connect the two without any names or background info on the auntie's families?
I would enter parents for one of the aunties as 'father of aunties' and 'mother of aunties', then attach the other auntie as a child. Once you puzzle out the relationship of the third auntie or cousin, you can use the same method. I hope this helps.
I closed the application and some three or four days later opened to do some work. I was was prompted to load a sample tree or another tree. I selected my normal tree. When it had loaded none of the photographs (I have over 6000) loaded into any profiles of the persons on the tree. I sunced my tree with the olione tree and still no photos. I have downloaded and reloaded FTB today. Still no photos. The profiles state there are photos but if I go to view them I get a Failed to Load message.
Please advise how I can restore the photographs to my tree.
I noticed that as a site manger I can grant permission to site members to download the site material. Once I have given them that permission, how may they download the tree to their computer, directly into their own installation of Family Tree Builder?
You site members will be able to download a GEDCOM copy of the family tree by logging into their accounts and visiting your fmaily site. They will then need to move their mouse cursor over the 'Family Tree' tab and then click on 'Manage Trees'.
This will take them to a new page where they will be able to click on 'Export to GEDCOM'. Once they have been sent the GEDCOM copy of the family tree they will then be able to import this into their own Family Tree Builder Software.
They will not however be able to edit the tree in their own software and then sync this back to your online family site.
Background: I am a premium subscriber. I have several family trees synced to a MyHeritage website.
Recently, syncing has gone terribly awry. Citations are getting scrambled -- some citations don't appear on the profiles they are connected to, but citations for other people in the tree randomly appear in their place. (For example, Maria's profile shows a citation for a distant relative named Peter, and there's a citation for Maria that is nowhere to be found.) Syncing appears to work (for example. a date that I changed in FTB today has been changed in the proper record on the website), but the overall structure of the website data has been corrupted.
Additilonal detail: I recently accepted the invitation to change the name of my website from the default "Web Site" to a personalized name. Now when I visit the website, my trees are still associated with the default name "Web Site." However, the personalized website name is now associated with a small gedcom that I uploaded to see what it contained.
I share a lot of family (probably most) with another MH Family Tree Builder user.
She has some spectacular errors in her tree from when she started it (mostly); for example I looked in her online tree and found the name of one person SEVEN TIMES in the index. As well as masses of information that could well have been inserted as Notes, all written in the Name area.
I have offered to help sort it out and she accepted with apparent joy and relief!
The problem is that I am not comfortable doing the corrections on-line. Can I make corrections and alterations in HER FAMILY TREE BUILDER program? And how?
(I know that there are programs that would allow me to operate her computer, my computer tech grandson does that with mine, and that might be an option, with the appropriate agreements, but I don't want to go that far...)
Or, can I download her Family Tree Builder program to my computer? How? And how do I get it back to her when I have made the alterations?
And, I am a computer idiot! A click by click description please!
(I know another person's FBT program can be downloaded to my computer because from time to time when I start the program a box appears asking if I want to download the FBT program [of a particular person who shares family with me] and I don't so I say No Thanks).
There is no way to edit a Family Tree Builder project remotely.
That is why it is advisable to sync the family tree to the site. The site is the 'meeting point' of editing the tree for the tree creator and his/her invited members.
You two can, nonetheless, exchange GEDCOM files of your projects corrections. Especially if she does not sync the tree to the site, then there will be no problem at all in exchanging and working in new files. Note, however, that if you send her a new file and she imports it on her Family Tree Builder and then sync it to her site, it will create a new tree within her site - which may cause her receiving again matches that she had already confirmed or rejected on the previous tree (with same content) that she had before.
two things spring to mind-- firstly-- would you not simply export your file to GEDCOM and eamil it to her and she abandon her tree and import your data as her primary-- then you both have EXACTLY the same file from taht point.
Else you could use the Backup option in FTB transfer THAT backup to her and let her RESTORE-- from your data.
