Firstly, please send me the Zed file to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Secondly. regarding your comment about custom facts as disappearing, can you please explain in greater detail?
Please note that custom facts are per project. This means that if you enter a custom fact for one project, they will not be listed as fact options in another project that you have in Family Tree Builder.
I have experinced an issue with CUSTOM FACTS - all in same database
I created the custom fact RESIDENCE - this is for people places of residence eg electoral rolls. It works etc, but when I SAVE it and then CLOSE the program and then RESTART > I have lost the Custom fact entry ie nothing there at all.
Funny thing is, if I attach a photo etc - then I can still see the photo in the PHOTO section and the association for this PHOTO is with the right person. If I go to that person and click on photos > there are none showing.
I am using ver 5 of the s/ware as I have an issue with broken relationshops on ver 6 (refer other posts)
I have lost a fair bit of work with this custom facts.
Thanks for your reply. Let me explain what is happening now. I have 2 projects - I won't give the real names here - for purposes of this query I'll call them PROJECT & PROJECT2011. Project was the one I originally had problems with, but seem to have sorted that out by using FTB 5209. From PROJECT I exported people & families to excel. I closed PROJECT & opened PROJECT2011 and imported people & famiies files into it, however ALL the information from the description field in facts DID NOT imort to PROJECT2011. There-in lies my problem.
I will send the Zed file by email if you still require it.
I updated to latest version of FTB yesterday. I'm not sure if it is the new version which have the problem or my computer. I add a fader to a child and I get the childs surname as suggestion and I saved. I now try to change the surname and it always auto finish what I type in when I save. Lets say it says "Karlsson" and I try to remove the name all together it will still say "Karlsson". If I just type "K" and save it will say "Karlsson". It is imossible to type in something shorter than the auto finish suggestion.
Importing photos from my MyPictures file in window XP to FTB is definately not user friendly. And I cannot find the import photos Wizard in my FTB program that I see in the tutorial book. The directions in the tutorial usually tell you what it's possible to do but does not give you many step my step instructions. Can anyone please help me find the wizard so I can import photos more easily.
In the new version we now support importing files that were generated from 4 leading genealogy programs into Family Tree Builder. The purpose of this is making it easier for new or existing users to start with any information they may have created before moving to our FTB software.
To facilitate this even further we included a new scanning tool that quickly scans your computer for any lost genealogy file, and lets you choose which ones to import into Family Tree Builder.
The supported file formats include:
·Family Tree Maker files (FTW, FTM or FTMB extensions).
·Personal Ancestral Files (PAF extension).
·Legacy files (FDB extension).
·The Master Genealogist files (TMG, PJC or VER extensions).
To complete the list, remember that we already support importing GEDCOM or Family Tree Legend (FTL) files.
Finally, FTB 5.1 also includes a handful of different bug fixes.
version 5.1 does not import from TMG at all : when searching the computer for files it finds only gedcom files but not the extension 'pjc' which is the extension for TMG files. So import of TMG directly it is not implemented, in spite of all the blurb on importing from 4 specific programmes.
I have a Family Tree Maker 2010 file with over 15,000 people in it. I downloaded this new version of Family Tree Builder and tried to import my FTM file in. It only imported 43 people. I would love to try using something other than FTM but it seems to be almost impossible to get ALL of the data (including media, sources, etc) out of it and in to something else. I also tried importing a backup file (.ftmb) with the same results. Is FTM 2010 supported or does your import only support earlier FTM versions?
I'm trying to add a coat of arms as personal photo for several people. The size is not correct so I have to mark the "face".
This works for the first person. Then I add a new person and do the same procedure. For one photo I have 8 people. When I look att the family tree the photos for some people, I can only see part of the photo. I double click the photo and correct it, goes back to tree view and it is still wrong. I try again and in tab Associations I have the list for all people associated with the photo. When I go thru the list I can see the face-mark box. Now there is some funny, for some people with correct image the face mark shows as if it is to small and for some people with wrong image it can show as if image is correct. After several tries I now have all to show correctly except for the Associations tab where all people have wrong sized face mark. If I try to add a new person it starts all over again.
