I know that right now 2 parents are needed , but this is not real realistic.
Alot of people are single parents, alot of kids have no idea who the other parent is.
Also like in my situation I know both of my parents but they were never married so I should not need to add them as married.
This really should be fixed to be a realistic tree.
Brian,
I agree with you 100%. There are many and varied types of parents with and without spouse or partners. The children many times live with and are supported by non parental partners of one of the parents. There has to be a "realistic" way to indicate these relationships. Computers and software, contrary to what some people think, have no feelings. People do!!
I know the thing about having to show both parents is kind of weird, but think about it in terms of genealogy. If there is a child, there is always a man and woman. (except in one case, depending on what you believe ;)) If I were a researcher looking at your tree, I would see "holes" in the tree where the second parent was left out.
So in genealogy terms the correct way to record the family tree is always to include the mother or father, even if there was no relationship between the parents.
Please find the attached snap shot of my problem description. In the figure, Mr. Rajendra singh has 2 wives (Sumathi singh is 1st wife; Ahsmi singh is 2nd wife). In the horiz/verti chart, the positioning of wives are interchanged. As we extend the tree, the successive trees are wrongly interpreted. Where as in fan chart its properly arranged. If the order of spouses are changed in FTB to suit horiz/verti layout, then the FAN chart would show the wrong arrangement. Is there any fix for this issue. (In the preview of this mail I am unable to see the attachment. Plz let me know if the image is required for clear understanding)
Unfortunately I don't see the attachment you added. It would help if you could explain more about what it means that the successive trees are wrongly interpreted.
Changing the order of spouses in FTB determines which spouse will be shown closest to Mr. Rajendra.
What I suggest is to change the order of spouses to suit you. Change it once in order to print the Descendants/Ancestors (Horiz/Vert) chart and then change it again to print the Fan chart.
As a work around for one of my suggstions to FTB(http://www.myheritage.com/support-post-346172/identification-number-whcih-can-be-controled-by-user#posting346172), I am using the title field to key in the identification number. Moreover, the orders of the spouces are in the order of their marriage. Hence when ever the position of the spouces gets swaped, the tree below the spouces gets swaped. Adding to it, the identification number provided on the title fuels more confusion ;-(.
I believe the attachments through this forum dosent seem to be working. If you could let me know your e-mail ID, I could send the same once again for more clarity.
For the time being, I am printing the chart twice as a work around solution.
Is there a way to allow members to participate in adding to my Tree,? I have the website set up and publish to tree builder, but cannot see how I can allow the members to participate.
Thanks for the links.'Q' so do I export from the website into the existing tree builder? This already has all the information but as we know cannot be edited.
Will that not duplicate what I already have and then be confusing???
I recall that the Team were working on between the two trees.
Now I have imported and all the photos have been imported, they are not showing with the relevant people.
I have clicked on them and then where it says add persons they are already showing and some with the line across the top left.BUT they are not with that person in the Tree, what do I need to do now to get them to show with their name in the family tree list
i have set up my family tree the other day and it did not keep my daughter on the chart, i didn't see where to put sisters and brothers for myself and parents. now i don't see any button to ADD anyone else in my tree. not quite sure what i am doing wrong.
When I launch the application, I get the following error: There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the drive DeviceHarddisk5DR5 With the buttons: Cancel, Try Again, and Continue
(See attached screen cap)
I can click any of the butons and the application launches fine. All of my hard disks are functioning correctly. From what I've found on the web with similar errors, I suspect it might be trying to read a built-in USB memory card reader drive on my system which doesn't have any cards in the slots.
Aside from being annoying having to see this every time I launch the application, it doesn't appear to cause any harm, but it would be nice to stop it from occurring since there really is no reason for the application to lookg for any removable drives. Inserting memory cards into the slots is not an option as I do not have cards for some of the slot types.
This error message usually appears if you have a removable media device attached to the computer, such as external hard drive, during the time you launch FTB.
Try launching FTB and then connecting your removable media. It should prevent you from receiving the message.
Ask if the “built-in USB memory card reader drive” is normally mapped to the K: drive. If so, the next question is to look in c:\program files\myheritage\bin and let us know which files he finds in there starting with the letters “TER”. We probably have a workaround for this.
Download the above exe file. Save in C: \program files\myheritage\bin and run it.
In essence what you are doing is saving new "TER15.DLL" and "TER16.DLL" files on top of the ones currently in your C: \program files\myheritage\bin folder. This should take care of the problem.
